Bioshock was disappointing? What? It was exactly like Bio 1... I can't think of 10 games but Mass Effect 3, RAGE, Alan Wake and especially Destiny were extremely disappointing. BF3 was also shit compared to BC2.

  1. Max Payne 3- Generic Plot, No Noir or Psychological elements, Limited inventory, Cover based shooting, meh gunplay, slow paced and flawed gameplay.
  2. Splinter Cell: Conviction- Generic Action movie. Not a Splinter Cell game I hoped it to be. Just an OK game at best.
  3. Crysis 2- COD direction with prettier graphics. At least suit powers were nice and gunplay was a lot of fun. Not bad but nowhere near as good as first one either.
  4. FEAR 2/3- Second one lacks the charm and charisma of the first one. Third one is trash.
  5. Dragon Age 2- Trash. Couldn't even finish.
  6. Modern Warfare 2- Trash. Killed entire franchise for me. Learned how safe these guys really play.
  7. Assassin's Creed 3- Trash. Boring game with boring characters.
  8. Total War: Rome 2 (Vanilla)- Great game broken on launch.
  9. Diablo 3 (Vanilla)- Great on launch but not 'Blizzard Great' + Auction House Controversy.
  10. Mass Effect 3- Great game overall. Not as good as second though but that ending ruined everything.

Max Payne 3 absolutely isn't as good as Max Payne 1 and 2, but you don't know what the hell noir is if you think MP3 had zero noir.

It had but the style was different. I should've been a bit more clear.

Not in any particular order:

DMC 4: Playing with Dante in the game was a choir.

Assassin's Creed 3: It just strayed to far from being what an assassin is about. Yes I know AC: Black Flag got away even further but I consider that game more a pirate simulator more than assassin game.

Ultra Street Fighter 4 and Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition: After how much fun was to be had with Super Street Fighter 4, Arcade Edition was a huge let down. Ultra was just unnessary and capcoms way to play around with ideas you now see in SFV. I call BULLSHIT SFV was going to be too costly to make seeing as they are using the same engine from 4 and using it in 5.

Call of Duty (Any of them after Modern Warfare): They were all from a story perspective pretty boring and were a Michael Bay love fest. Multiplayer is even worse don't get me started.

Soul Calibur 5: They tried to hard. If they had implemented new characters featuring more unique weapon styles the game would have been fine but no they included a the ex system that anime fighters use.

Uh what? It wouldn't mean it has less or no noir man, Noir itself is just crime-drama built around moral ambiguity and cynicism. Which the game had in spades, stylistically it's different, but that was a superficial aspect of film noir, and it stuck because it made a great contrast to the plot. Plot ambiguous, but the film is black and white.

The larger issue is that Rockstar just sucks at story telling and plot. At the least they shouldn't have tried to marry their shit with the writing stylistic choices of Sam Lake, it just doesn't work.

Some of these games I still enjoyed:

  • God of War III
  • Metal Gear Solid 4
  • The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
  • Final Fantasy XIII
  • Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
  • Metroid Other M
  • MadWorld
  • Grand Theft Auto IV
  • NiGHTs: Journey of Dreams
  • Uncharted 3

It's hard to rank them but I would say my least favorite/disliked were between MGS4, UC3, MadWorld, and FFXIII.

Halo 3's campaign is like, the only really good one out of all of them.

CE, might have been good at the time, but Halo 2s, show it to be highly repetitive and tedious.

Halo 2s is good but just not as good as Halo 3s.

ODST is dumb, because they took the rechargeable shield away, but didn't change any of the other mechanics.

Reach was just boring.

And I literally just started playing Halo 4 when it came out and never went back.

I disagree, for every good mission, there is an equally shitty one like The Flood which is The Storm backwards fighting the flood. Then there is Cortana, speaks for itself. The final level is this super anti-climactic shit where you shoot Guilty Spark after fighting up this bland tower thing fighting the flood, and then you have to do the warthog chase across this giant red platform with no real tension or excitement to the action as you're just running away from the flood and robots.

And while we're at it not a fan of Crow's Nest, because Halo in corridors and back tracking? yawnfest. Tsavo Highway is legit, and most of The Covenant and The Ark are fun, there are stretches of those missions that are lame though. Would argue Halo 2 has the same issue, half the missions are good or good enough? the other half? shit.

Floodgate isn't a shitty mission. Its not great but its not shitty. Cortana is the one shitty mission in the game. You're crazy.

  • Metroid : Other M
  • Super paper mario
  • Skyward sword (Some things could be easily fixed and there's a lot of good design in there, but ultimately it's not a good game)

Please note: Some of these are quite good, but just not up to par

-Super Mario Galaxy 2 (I'm sticking to my Expansion Pack Sequel guns, but I won't name my changed comparison as I've already said it)

-Perfect Dark Zero (has some cool things like a third person cover mechanic, but it was nothing fantastic)

-LEGO Star Wars III (a little too ambitious for it's own good)

-Zelda: Twilight Princess (cross gen, so it counts)

-Manhunt 2 (controversial violence aside, not a great game)

-Mario Kart Wii (at the very least, better than the borefest that was Mario Kart 64)

-Bleach: Shattered Blade (I've enjoyed several anime fighters, but MAN did this one SUCK)

GTA IV ( A downgrade in every way from San Andreas)

Super Paper Mario ( I wanted a game like previous Papaer Mario games, not a 2d/3d switching platformer)

Resident Evil 5

Resident Evil 6

Skyrim (I'm in the minority, but I found Oblivion much more enjoyable)

Gran Turismo 5 (Sony went on a rampage and cut the online servers when 6 was released. Real dick move forcing the upgrade Sony. It didn't work, I just went back to the superior Forza series. Thank you Sony)

Final Fantasy XIII (Trilogy)

Blue Dragon (for some reason it just became boring playing it, but I've tried to love it 3 times now)

ODST

Fable 3

God of War Ascension

  • Super Mario Galaxy (felt like they played it too safe with the new concepts. Still a good game Just not on the level a lot of people say. Then the sequel came out and was everything the first game should have been and more.)
  • Yoshi's Island DS (not even close to the design of the original. Far too many scrolling levels. If you want to get a decent follow up to the SNES original get the one on the 3DS)
  • Bioshock Infinite (The first Bioshock was great and it felt like the gameplay meshed decently well with the scenario. Infinite was a hot mess)
  • Darksiders 2 (The switch to a loot system made exploration less meaningful than it was in the first Darksiders. In the first game, exploration was rewarded with an upgrade guaranteed. In the second game, chances are you get a weapon or armour that's worse than what you already have. Overall it was a good game, just not on the level of the first)
  • God of War 2 and 3 (both were completely unnecessary. They essentially didn't improve at all on the first or change anything really)

Biggest disappointments go to: Crysis 2, Skyward Sword, RE5 (WTF?!?), DMC4 (bore to the max), Skyrim (boooooooring) and I guess that's about it.

No particular order:

  • Grand Theft Auto IV
  • Assassin's Creed Revelations
  • Devil May Cry 4
  • Resident Evil 5
  • Yoshi's Island DS

Nothing else really comes to mind.

Would argue Halo 2 has the same issue, half the missions are good or good enough? the other half? shit.

That's the whole of CE pretty much.

If you want to argue CE sucks too, I'm fine with that.

FFXIII

Nothing else even comes close. I went all out for this game (merchandise, special consoles). I've never been more heartbroken in my gaming life.

why? i thought i was the only one that thought borderlands 2 was disappointing. my biggest gripe was that the guns were crappy which matters in borderlands. i think they took the code from brothers in arms. i was firing re skinned ww2 guns

@jsmoke03: I had to include it... I bought a copy on steam, ps3, xbox360 and the vita and I still can't get through it without becoming utterly bored. I loved borderlands 1, but I'm ready for a new franchise out of gearbox
