Speedball Deluxe by Bitmap Brothers. Never played it, but it seems to be the inspiration for Deathrow. It's an ultraviolent sports game.
My favourite niche game is Syndicate by Bullfrog.

A long time ago...
Very few people have heard of that game, but it is my personal favorite.
The last one is just Fanart, but it looks pretty cool. The main characters are Magnus (At the front), Leia (The girl), Dio (Behind), and Hugo the Tacticion (the old guy).
Body Harvest. Was basically GTA 3 while fighting aliens that harvested humans. Sound corny, but the premise and locales were spectacular IMO.
Let you free roam huge environments and get into any vehicles, well before GTA 3 did it in 3D. If it were in this gen, I would jump for joy.

Killer 7 is pretty much my favorite Niche game of all time. Just too great to be ignored, but it is. Phoenix Wright, Trauma Center, Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation 1+2, Riviera, Ouendan, and Yggddra Union are also niche games I like. There are already pics of Phoenix Wright and Trauma Center so I'm not gonna bother with those.

It's called Ar Tonelico. It's kind of a hybrid between an RPG and a dating sim. Quite rare in the states, a few come to mind like Thousand Arms (PSX) and Riviera (GBA). -RPGamer-

Significant in a number of ways, it was one of the first dating sim type games to reach the US, the first PS game to feature lots of voice acting, and the first game I'm aware of to tie weapon enhancement to relationships. Oh yeah..and Smoochie was hilarious.
Great game IMO and the story while simple has a better premise than virtually any other RPG out there.

Innovated "arts" essentially combinations of button presses done in a turn-based fashion that could execute moves, the normal moves increased AP (Art Points) which you then could use to execute super and hyper arts which were more powerful but consumed AP. Also had a substantial magic system and difficult battles.
Magic effects were quite amazing for the time and were very powerful, but you couldn't exactly just load up on magic potions and be set..they took up lots of MP and the amount increased as they increased in level becoming more powerful. Still essential for any kind of victory as with normal arts you tend to get killed...a lot.
Amazingly atmospheric 2D side-scrolling platformer/action-adventure title. Graphically still holds up well but was downright astonishing at the time, music is another strength...it contributes greatly to atmosphere, every track is perfectly suited. Either easy or difficult depending on how you care to play and what ending you want to go for (there are 4 or 5, can't recall the exact number).
Much of the game centers around gathering "crests" which grant you new forms and abilities. For instance, this one (A. Gargoyle) grants you a more powerful attack (although some enemies are immune to it) and allows you to fly to any height..something no other form offers.
Theres also a T. Gargoyle form that allows you to go underwater and play through a couple of alternate levels there, a E. Gargoyle which grants you powerful attacks and the ability to break stone statues at the expense of flight, a L. Gargoyle which is essentially a more powerful version of your original form, and lastly a U. Gargoyle which combines the abilities of all the other forms and can only be obtained after you gain all the crests in the game (not easy, the Fire Crest has five parts)
