none. there have not been a great song that just stood out to me this gen. my favorite song is the sephiroth battle in ff7 though, its just so good and memorable.
it might sound weird, but I really like the song in the main menu of GRID. I've only played the demo, I dont know if it is the same song in the full game.
also, does anybody know the name of the song in MGS 4 in the snow stage, the same level in MGS 1. the song that a lady sings, probably a japanese lady.
I got quite a few. A couple of them are the Portal Song (no need to explain:P) and I also been listening to Sigma Harmonics battle theme a lot(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5QOP98Hj9A). Really is beautiful.
Super Mario Galaxy - Comet Observatory. One of my favourite things about Super Mario Galaxy's many pieces of music is how smoothly the music transitions and evolves itself as you explore the many galaxies. The Comet Observatory is a bit different from the rest because since you'll be hearing it a lot, the main melody which is quite pleasant becomes engraved into your head quite easily making it hard to detect when it evolves on your first playthrough. On the second playthrough, you'll notice something quite odd and that's when you realize how beautiful it is.
Game music this generation has been excellent. It's one of the things that this generation has excelled in. Sure we heard some great music last gen such as the music you get in MoH, and thosse MIDI songs were catchy back then, for a while. But now we have so many quality soundtracks for games out there, it's hard to keep up. Let's see theres; Halo 3, Heavenly Sword, Uncharted, Metal Gear Solid 4, Gears of War, Oblivion, Mass Effect, Eternal Sonata, Super Mario Galaxy, Lost Odyysey and many more with either entertaining or atleast unique soundtracks. If I were to pick a faviourite I would probably choose the main theme you hear in Uncharted on the menu screen.
