Your first console/handheld

I know this thread has been done a lot, but what was your first console/handheld and how old were you, what year was it, etc...?

Also... which console is your favorite and why is it superior to all other consoles?

I never really thought about consoles until my parents bought me a slim PS2 for my 11th birthday in 2005. (Kinda late to join in, I know. :P) I had no idea what I was missing! Previously, I had just used Windows 98 for all of my gaming needs... like the Sims. :P Anyway, it opened up a whole new world for me. And today, through the power of the Internet, I've discovered all about consoles before my generation and how the video game industry has morphed over the years. It's truly amazing stuff!

I've always been partial to Sony for introducing video games into my life, but recently Nintendo has won me over as well with the Wii and their great first party games they've always had. I don't really think there can be a best console, but Microsoft has yet to win me over.

Oh wait, scratch that... the Vectrex is definitely the most epic console ever.

My first console was the PS3. I had been a PC only gamer prior.

Game Boy color - Handheld

Atari - Console

Console - My dad's Intellivision, so I'll just say 1986. I played with that until I got a Sega Genesis in 1993.

Handheld - GameGear, and I got that in I think 1994.

First Console was a NES, I think I was 7 or 8 at the time.

Since then Ive had nearly one console each gen, and when I was 15 I also got my own PC (gaming only PC) Since then the PC has become my preferred Platform, but I still have a console each gen.

The first handheld I had, was the Gameboy, but the low batterylife, and somewhat "brick" feel of it, made me not get another handheld til the DS lite came out ^^

The first I played was NES, which I didn't own personally. The first I paid for from my own pocket was Playstation.

SNES in 1994

NES, i PC gamed for a bit prior... but NES was my first console.

Never had a handheld... wanted a gameboy back in the day... but handheld systems eventually developed a poor stigma in school by the time i was 10, as in the owners were everlasting virgins. By that age i was far too cool to be seen with a handheld gaming device, so the stars never aligned.

My first console (of my own) was an NES (when I was 5). First family console was an Atari 2600. My first handheld was a Gameboy (big gray one) when I was 10 (bought it with Christmas money). My favorite console of all time is the SNES. Got it the Christmas of the year it came out, and it's been my all time favorite ever since. Bought my brother's Genesis a few years later and enjoyed that generation very much.

My current favorite handheld and system overall is the DS. I'm a little indifferent about the consoles, though I have a Wii and PS3. They're both alright I guess. Haven't been as interested in their libraries as I have the DS though.

The NES was my first. The pin reader was really worn down, but I got it to work for several years. Eventually it stopped working and it was boxed up for a while. A few years ago, I ordered a new pin reader, opened my NES, installed it, and now it runs as good as new.

My first handheld was the Sega GameGear. That thing was amazing. The two bad things about it was that it was huge and ate batteries. Still, it kept me entertained on the long car trips of my youth.

NES and Atari 2600. I can't remember which one was first though. First, and last, handheld was a Gameboy. There is a Gameboy Advance SP floating around here somewhere, but it's my Sister-in-Law's.

I was born in 1990, so technically my Genesis, or my NES was my first console, but by the time I started playing games we had an SNES as well.

My first handheld was the Gameboy Pocket. T'was green :)

My favorite systems growing up were always Nintendo/Sega, but I also really enjoyed the Xbox last gen. Now I'm mainly a PC gamer, and I think it's better than everything else :) Most exclusives, best online, longest lasting communities, most power, most features, most options, etc. It's really all I need. Just about any gaming itch I have is scratched by the PC :P

Handheld: IDK! Something that allowed me to play Sega Genesis games.

Handheld: never owned one.

Gameboy Color and Playstation 1

Handheld: Game Boy Color. I got this in 1998. It's on my bookshelf somewhere. It's still functioning.

Console: I bought a PS3 last May to top off finals. Mostly played RDR on it.

But, I am a PC gamer first and foremost.

Gameboy Pocket first HH and Gamecube my first Console. I had all previous Nintendo consoles before the gamecube but all those were for the whole family. The gamecube I bought it with my own money, just for me.

System: SNES

Handheld: Either Neo Geo Pocket Color or Game Boy Color

Don't remember which I got first.
