I think the first "next-gen", although now it's current gen, game I owned/played was Project Gotham Racing 3.
Well if you exclude trying demos, other people's consoles, kisosk's etc, my first must have been Ratchet and Clank Future, since my first current-gen console was the PS3 in winter 07, but I'm not sure when current-gen started PC wise, since there were a lot of PC games I played before that.
My first truly "next gen" experience was Dead Rising over last summer. I had played games like Prime 3, Twilight Princess and Gears before that... but none of them struck me as much of a "next gen" title as much as Dead Rising. The first game I played that truly, the concept was impossible on last gen consoles.
Ridge Racer 6.
Funny thing is, when the PS3 was released I found a PS3 setup in the store with Ridge Racer 7.... I could not believe how identical it looked. From what Sony was saying about the PS3 I expected it to look like a different game. It really made me LOL.
Yeah,I was not a fan myself, but I payed $60 bucks so I played the stupid thing.GRAW and what a horrible game that was
