I use to love sport games when I was younger. In fact, it was the only type of game I'd buy. Now, I feel like they are very shallow. I still buy them only for the sake of when I have friends over, but other than that I just don't play them anymore. Do you think the sport genre will die out?

Tend to think sports games apart from racing and Golf belong on the consoles.

That dude from EA was right, lean in games pc, lean back games console.

Most games are shallow, especially the popular mainstream ones.

I still like PES, used to love NHL. But time has done its job for me, these games evolve very little because the theme is so static and so I've grown tired of them. I used to get a new NHL/Fifa7/PES game every year, now I'll check the new PES game only every now and then.

I love sports and I love sports games. That's how it is for millions so they will never die out. Madden went down the toilet last year though.

What does that mean? Shallow? Do you want a deep story or something? Its a sports game. For the most part they utilize all of the buttons on the controller and they tend to switch what they do whether you are on offense or defense. Also, the sports genre will never die out, one of the most successful games ever, if not the most, is Madden. Just because you don't like a certain type of game, doesn't mean everyone does or that they are going to stop making those kind of games. Hell, ESPN now covers Madden when it released and has there own show with it. What other game can say that?

Wow, I feel the same way. I used to play full seasons of Madden, NBA Live, NHL, FIFA, etc... I still buy some of these games (old habits die hard) but don't play them nearly as much as I used to. I don't think it will die off as there are plenty of fans but I just don't have the time to apply to sports game like I used to.

I've never really been into sports, period, so I've never really bought sports games. But I do think they can be fun at times. It is the fun factor that will keep sports games going for a long time.

What I don't understand is how sports titles can come out every single year and people will buy them every single time. THAT makes no sense to me. Football is football.

So many sports games seem to cheap out on quality now, which used to be okay when the games were already redonkulous like blitz or something, but a high quality game with a single player campaign like MLB08the show is still awesome and i think is one of the best ps3 games

No, I don't expect that. I do feel as though the sport genre is lagging behind technology. I've notice what they do is take away features then years down the road they bring them back as if it was new. I don't expect everyone to feel the same way I do about sport games. This is why I pose the question, How do they feel?

Sport games are amongst the most complex games out there man. Sure anyone can get into them but games like Madden are very very complex and require a very high degree of skill to be good at.

I used to be big into sports games... you could always count on me having at least a few at any given time. Hockey, football, baseball, soccer, maybe even a tennis/basketball (Street)/snowboarding game.

Now? Nada. Not one, which is really unlike me. I blame it on a few things, but mainly that these devs are signing exclusive contracts which has resulted in crap games that aren't pushed by the competition. Plus, where's my SSX for the 360? C'mon!

When I was younger I was HUGE fan of sports games, especially Triple Play/MVP Baseball and Madden. But I have since lost interest in most of them, with the exception of the EA's NHL series.

Yes

Sports games are pretty easy to pick up and play, the real trick (just like every other game) is delving deep into the game.

Sports fans do that, most others don't or can't

Not a sports gaming fan anymore as I explained earlier, but I agree. I see my brother play NBA 2K everyday (for money I might add). He can get into little details about the game and each player and when to release their signature shot, how to shoot free throws, who can dunk and from how far they chould, how successful they will be. It's amazing how much he knows about the game.

dont flame me, but I hate them, always have hated them, always will hate them. I dont even count them as real games, accually. Now heres an idea! Go outside, and accually play some sports! You might acually get some exercise! And a life! And maybe a girlfriend!phantom-4112
I have a serious problem with that statement. People do go out and play sports and still play sport videogames. WHY? They love the sport that much. They can watch the best players play that sport, play that sport themselves, and play video games centered around their favorite sport and play as their favorite players. Also it is kinda hard to get 22 people to go outside and play football every day. It's easy to pop in NFL 2k5 (screw Madden).

I've owned everyone I've ever played with Madden (granted the comp is not very good) it just seems easy to me, but then again I study almost every play even on the real games and see things most others don't. I bet I could beat those so-called-pros you see on tv playing in Madden tourneys. When I get the Madden 20 CE me and you should play a few games online.

I love every genre of game, but sports games are still my overall favorite. Nothing beats a good game of hockey. I've played the NHL 2K series easily more than any games I've ever owned. For me, as it is for most sports fans, I'm able to delve deeper into the game than most people, and really learn the nuances of the engine. Football games used to be the best with this, in that actually having a knowledge of the game used to equate to having success in the game. In recent years, Madden has kinda fallen off that wagon onto an arcade ship. I dunno what it is, but there's something comforting to be about a sports game. Maybe its that I can play it over and over endlessly, and if the game is good, each game is a new experience. Whereas with some other genre of game, I beat the game and I'm done with it. The attitude most other "leet" gamers have towards sports games and sports gamers is frustrating and unfair. There is no need to put sports gamers down and label them as idiots or something, which seems to be a popular thing to do around here. Sports games are just as valid of a genre as any other, and are arguably some of the most complex when you start to get into simulation-style online leagues and such. Get over yourselves and quit hating needlessly.

I'd prefer to lift weights than play sports games. But because I don't like them (anymore atleast) doesn't mean they shouldn't be around. Wii Fit isn't a sports game.

I love em'. Sports games (and racing games) are probably the best value out there in terms of how much replay you can get out of it if you really enjoy the game.

My favorite type of sports game are MLB games. MLB the Show is the most realistic baseball video game I've played yet, and Road to the Show is very fun and addicting. NBA video games are also fun, I like NBA08 but I didn't really like NBA 2k8 because the animations looked very shaky. I don't care too much for Football video games like Madden for some reason.

I don't like most racing games such as Grid, Dirt or Nascar09. But I like Gran Turismo and MotorStorm. I can't wait to try Pacific Rift.

replay value? maybe there are alot of replay value in these games, but EA kept piling up sports games year after year. It's as if they want us to dump last year's one and move on to the next.

I bet I could beat those so-called-pros you see on tv playing in Madden tourneys. When I get the Madden 20 CE me and you should play a few games online.

Then why aren't you out there making money? There is tons of money to be made in Madden. If you're really that good you shouldn't have a problem.

But then again until you've played a Pro you really have no idea. My friends little brother made it to the Region Finals of the Philly Madden Challenge before and he's ridiculous. Playing against the pro's. You might as well say that you can beat some of the Pro's in the Fighting genre as well.

But yeah if you really are that good go for it. Tons of money to be made.

I usually can't play them seriously, but I just got MLB The Show 08, and it's one of the best sports games I've played. Me being a baseball fanatic helps, but it's really great. Other than that, the last sports game I put serious hours into was Tecmo Bowl :P

My sig speaks for this topic[QUOTE="subrosian"] Sports games are like cigarettes - people who use them annoy the hell out of people who don't. Please, don't spread the cancerPaleo_Orca

More like people who don't smoke keep bugging the s**t out of them to quit, and people who don't play sports games always say stuff like "why do you play that? stop being a noob"

sports games are boring, all sports games, I've never bought a single one. Including racing games, they are almost the worst ones.
