In my opinion this is a really bad and stupid move by microsoft. think about it the 360 pro is now at $350, $50 less expensive than the PS3 ($400). if they decide to release the "new 360" thats gonna add a lot to the price. lets take the current 360 which is at $350. the built in wi-fi and 1080p capabilities will no way cost less than $50. so the price of the new 360 is now $400 on level with the PS3. now if u then add the built in hd-dvd drive thats no way gonna cost anywhere less than $120 since the hd-dvd add on is $179 and standalone players are not less than $200. so this totals the xbox 360 pro at $520 and the elite at $620 and that isnt including the hdtv tuner they might put in(and these prices are discounted btw they are more realistically).
now at a $520 price point for the pro its $120 more expensive than the PS3. now think about it... it would be the most expensive console on the market just like the PS3 was when it launched, and what were the results... very low PS3 sales due to its high price. the same thing is going to happen to the 360 if microsoft goes with their plan. the reasosns the new 360 will sell a looooot less than the PS3 is because:
1. it is going to be much more expensive than the PS3
2. the PS3 would already have a strong, large and well-established game library by that time with many AAA titles (R&C, Uncharted, Haze, GT5, MGS4, Killzone 2)
3. the fact that in the article it says that "Though Blu-ray had been gaining an upper hand in the conflict" basically means people are getting more into blu-ray and prefer it over hd-dvd which would mean the general public would prefer buying a PS3 as a blu-ray player than the new 360 as an hd-dvd player.
This plan i assure you will be the painful death of microsoft and the rise and glory of Sony and the PS3!!!
What are your thoughts about Microsoft's plan?
