1: Infiltration, for the original Unreal Tournament.  

          

Ultra realistic modern war shooter that's more realistic than Operation Flash Point.

2: Hidden Source, for Half-Life 2.  

8 squad members vs 1 experiment gone wrong.

3: Battlegrounds 2, for Half-Life 2.      

Civil war shooter, the long reloading times may sound boring but it allows for really fun bayonet fights.

4: Garry's Mod, for Half-Life 2.

Awesome sandbox mod.

Team fortress classic= best mod ever.

Another great one that barely anyone played or probly even remembers is Science and Industrys for HL1.  You had to go to the other teams lab and steal their scientists so they can research better weapons and mods for you lol such a great idea so unfortunate that it wasnt very popular.

1. Thief 2X: Shadows of the Metal Age
At 687mg, this massive total conversion for Thief 2: The Metal Age is more of an unofficial sequal than a mod.
With almost as many missions as the un-modded game, a wide range of new weaponry and enemy designs, and some near-perfect, non-linear level design, I can easily call this the best mod I've ever played.

2. Counter-Strike
Love it or hate it, CS has to be the most played mod ever, and also one of the most played online games ever.

3. Garrysmod 9.0
It's a sandbox version of the Source Engine, with a wide range of user-made online mods. Inifinite hours of fun, here.

4. Team Gizka's KOTOR 2 Restoration Mod (unreleased)
I can't say for certain, but having read/listened through most of the cut content in KOTOR 2, I think it's worth mentioning that this mod will kick arse.

5. The Ship
A deceptively deep multiplayer mod of Half-Life, providing the most insidious multiplayer environment ever.

6. Planeforger's Rings of Protection Mod (unreleased)
It's a simple, yet vaguely innovative mod for Oblivion that just seemed to fit the game. Also the only mod I've ever made. :P

....and yeah, I can't think of many more exemplary ones.

havent played a lot of pc games but i have i like the star wars battlefront 2 heavy wars mod call of duty 2 zombies with guns and city hall map

No cd cracks? :D-supercharged-
never used one of those well would ask what it is but im tired going to go to sleep hoping to get a credit card today so i can play xbox live that only way i will be able to take my 360 online so i hope it gets here today. ill have to get a 360 game that has multiplayer like i might get madden 07 or a shooting game just to play with others. well im out bye peeps

didnt need to be modded, unless we count the boot disc for ones that weren't self booting

oh and i also forgot (cant remember the exact names of them though)

Heard of Xlink Kai.

You can play Xbox, Cube, PS2, 360 ect. ONLINE for FREE - via 'system link' through your network.

And no its not illegal.

Anyone played Goldeneye Source? music, guns, maps all faithfull to GE64 :D wondering what happened to the Silent hill and Resi  mods tho

I dont think Inflitration even came close to the realism that OPF did. but my favorite Mods are..... 1. Desert Combat. 2. Red Orchestra. 3. Garry's mod
