Mine would be:

1- Ugly looking characters & enviorments.

Offending games: Bioshock (enviorment & characters), Resistance (characters: aliens look like an intestine mixed with turd).

2- Unecessary Monster Closets.

Offending games: Doom 3 (no execuse for it to have this much monster closets, Doom 1 & 2 had those in rarity), Dead Space (albiet the story delivers in spades and makes up for it, but I wish if they had dialed down the moster closets a tad bit)

1. People that moan about graphics in games that have fantastic graphics 2. Developers that make really dumb decisions when it comes to gameplay for no real reason, and they're in 50 man teams, and yet nobody went "this is dumb" at any point.

I'd have no problem with cinematic gameplay if they did it properly. For some reason games developers think cinematic means they have to have a cutscene or 20 minutes of talking every 10 minutes.

That is a huge problem with Cinematic gameplay, devs having too many cutscenes. Personally I have never been a fan of cinematic gameplay for the same reason I have never been a big fan of movies. I prefer reading books and such.

One thing that I have started to find annoying in games is when devs take control over your character and while you lose complete control someone in your group dies, while your character just sits there and stares. I could have killed the assailant, not only saving that character, but getting rid of the enemy as well. I liked how Fire Emblem 4 did it.
the game killed 2 of your characters, all in gameplay, you feel you could have done something to prevent their deaths, but alas the desert slows down any of your non-aerial units down too much.
2. Games that don't take any risk in improving, changing, or adding anything new to it's genre. (Cough Call of Duty Cough)

Yes, it does. All games are repetitive to a certain degree. Some games just do a way better job of masking it than others.

At first i thought your "offending games" was a category, and didn't quite understand what you meant by Bioshock and Resistance.

My first, and foremost, pet peeve is the use of the term "pet peeve." I detest the usage, for reasons that the TC has nothing to do with, of course.

Other than that, I suppose my most disliked, common, occurance, in games is a SP that sucks so that the devs can shoe-horn in a MP, which also sucks.

1. Poorly optimized PC games/lazy ports to PC (or to console, just lazy work by devs in general) Games like GTA4 on PC which gives me a substantially lower framerate than games with vastly superior graphics (and there is no AA available, the jaggies are unbearable (there are no mods to fix these problems)) 2. Call of Duty. Not only has it ruined a lot of the FPS genre, but it detracts from the potential sales of a lot of other games too as millions of peoples' gaming needs are entirely satisfied by COD.

Crysis 2, Gears 1/2- Someone/a squad member is trying to communicate with me, I'd better suddenly start walking as slow as possible for no discernible reason.

Shooters in general- Rigorously trained soldiers who can only sprint for 8 seconds.

1. Poorly executed combat (weak gunplay, poor sounds or impact) - unforgivable in games that soley focus on the combat.

2. Take cover or die gameplay - I think it's just laziness to not allow for more variety in this formula where you are punished for not hiding behind a wall (yes I'm looking at Mass Effect 2 as good a game as it is, could have been a hell of a lot better on the gameplay front).

I have way more than two :P

1. Realism in gaming. I've only seen two games actually use it right this generation (L.A. Noire and Heavy Rain), usually it's just boring to me.

2. Bald characters. Why are they almost always boring?

3. Brown. And gray. Seriously, we have more colors than that.

4. Multiplayer. Way too much focus on that ruins the SP.

5. Unnecessary violence and nudity. Absolutely despise it, makes it feel exploitative.

6. Sandbox gameplay. I genuinely prefer linearity.

1. A lack of polish (though I can forgive Fallout 3 for it, New Vegas went WAY too far).

2. Unbalance and bad pacing (both sort of go hand in hand at times, so I included them both as one).

Bad controls/camera

combat imbalance.

I hate these 2 things more than anything else and when combined they make a game completely unplayable for me.I can take a crappy story, apparently if you listen to all of the novelists and scriptwriters in System wars every game story is bad. I can get past that if the game is fun to play though.

Bad voice acting grates me as well, especially if there is a lot of dialog in the game..A bad game UI could be added to that list as well.

Bioshock with ugly looking environments?

Not. Sure. If... serious?? :?

Mystery_Writer

The water rendering was really good. But the old look of the 50s style diners, rooms, hallways, etc.. were ugly. It would've looked far better (IMO) if they chose a different modern or futuristic style. Also, the ugly looking characters didn't help it either.

While you may not have preferred the 50's styIe aesthetic to the architecture, it was still rendered with stunning technical proficiency. A debate over art direction is seperate from how well that is rendered, and in that regard, along with the lighting and atmospheric setting to it all, the game excelled. The believeability of the environment, where everything had weight and substance to it, really enhanced the games immersion.

Also gotta keep in mind the game is actally set in the early part of the new year of 1960, but that means the city of Rapture was designed in the 50's, so that Art Deco style is in keeping with the context of the game's setting, which is very relevant to the look the game should be expected to have. Not everything takes place in contemporray 21st century or near future events (10 - 30 years from now) that would have their own distinct styIe.

Protect missions, and the fact friendly AI is always way more retarded than the enemy's.

1. Too many checkpoints. beating half a level then dying, then beating the other half is bullcrap. There shouldnt be checkpoints in levels if you cant beat the level then you dont beat it.

2. Games that try and make you feel like there is exploration when in reality its just A to B.

Obscure & tedious achievements that are worth barely anything (5g, etc). GTA4 & Red Dead Redemption are terrible in this department. I'd say when it comes to faults in games, it would rank fairly low on the list, but it really does bug me.

Seriously 2.0 in Gears of War 2. 50,000 kills for 20gs. Seriously!? ... er.... 2.0!? I hate ones like that. I also hate ones that pertain to MP. Sometimes a MP just isn't worth playing, so you're 100% or Platinum just flies out the window. Also, RDR had a glitch that didn't count two bounties, so I couldn't get my 100% trophy after spending dozens of hours trying to finish everything. That kind of crap just cannot happen.

Bioshock is not a good looking game. I completely agree with TC.

 • Bland/repetitive environments

Oblivion, Bioshock, Killzone 2, Fallout 3, Gears of War, and more feel this way to me.

 • Framerate drops

Infamous, GTA IV, and more

I actually felt the presentation and story telling of dark siders was much better than some other big name games out there. And on top of that, I think the customization and such is much better in the game, than it is in God of War. Darksiders is definitely underrated, although I hope in the new one they make the world more open like zelda.

Well, I felt the story was kind of campy at times, but I DEFINITELY thought it was better than God of War 2 and 3. In fact, those were two of the games that came to mind when I typed #1. The difference is that I can't remember Darksiders hyping up its story to be anything extraordinary, and it actually turned out to be pretty good.

I felt Darksiders was too comicbookish. It was like reading a bad Image comic from the 90's. Overly muscular gigantic male characters and hyper sexualized female characters made to appeal to 14 year olds..And the combat, even though you where carrying around these huge weapons, felt rather lackluster. The game did nothing for me. I would say that it falls directly under the 2 pet peeves you listed.
