its defintly worth it, i absolutly loved it.  Once you get into it, you get hooked.  You get new pinatas coming to your garden and you want to try and get them in there, its pretty intense.  I played just over 50 hours in the game because i used guides and what not.  Without guides i would have been playing for a much longer time.  I highly recommend it.  You basically get a worthless piece of land filled with dirt and you have to turn it into a garden with life.  The better you become the more land you are given and the more pinatas come to your garden.

BUY IT.  Basically, you start out with a rundown garden full of junk and you need to fix it up to attract pinata.  It's very easy to play and it is paced perfectly.  It starts out kind of holding your hand and eventually lets you go and do what you want with the garden, and the overall experience becomes extremely addictive.  The art-style/graphics are great (some of the best on the 360 IMO), the music is very good, and the gameplay is a whole lot of fun.  I say buy it.

It's a amazingly fun game that works for kids, teens and adults. And to be honest its the adults who get the most out of it as the game is a little too hard when it comes to attracting the bigger animals. Its nice to play Viva after some shooting, racing or whatever. It's the most under-rated game on the 360 and one of the best looking games on any next gen. It does look and play a little childish and at the start it guides your hand but as your garden grows the game gets very sim and quite difficult to keep all your animals happy and content with each other. As i learned swans and ducks do not mix on the same pond. Only gripe is the size of the garden at max. And the limit of Pinatas and items in your garden when its full... But the winning way is to have 3-4 gardens with different things like a jungle garden a farmyard garden etc etc.. But get it its worth it and you can pick it up for £25 in England at Argos everywhere else is £40... Not sure if US has similar deals...

I have the game, and I have easily put over 30 hours on it. Try a rental first if you are not convinced.

Seriously, there's a good chance I might kill someone if the Chewnicorn doesn't become a resident, cheeky B***** eats about 10 gems then leaves, comes back and does it again meaning the resident requirements aren't filled!

The Pinatas actually do that to each other. They eat one another and candy comes out. Not even kidding.

no its worse you have to be a master horstacio breeder and you have to have a gem tree, and the only way i know to get it from mining it. then it has to eat 10 gems... a big feat

Yes, it is like that. However, dont expect such a hardcore simulation. Also, the game has many other features that take main stage.

Viva Pinata is my absolute favorite Xbox 360 game. I enjoyed it more then Gears, Oblivion, GRAW and Vegas.

Yea, the interactive video was lame, I enjoy the show though. I love the Galagoogoo, especially in that one episode where he was a ninja. :D

Definitely get it. It's a great game.

The gameplay is deep enough to enjoy. Don't expect a hardcore simulation of any kind, but keeping your garden peaceful is entertaining enough.

The gameplay basically boils down to making the best garden possible. You start with a thrashsed spot, which you're supposed to repair by putting grass, destroying garbage and stuff like that. You need to fulfill certain criteria to attract piñatas into your garden (say, worms like soft earth, and sparrowmints like worms...), and once you get them to reside, you can use them for breeding, production, or just improve them to sell them. You can also plant trees and other things to help you generate money. Once you start getting a decent garden, "sour" piñatas (evil!) will try to harm your piñatas. You can either destroy them or try to convert them.

Your piñatas can get hurt or sick, and you have to see to their health. The challenge comes from the main factory, who asks you for special deliveries to parties (say, two preztails [foxes]) within a limited time. IF you can do this, your piñatas will increase in value. If you don't, well, you lose that chance.

The only thing you're supposed to do is have fun. There is no particular objective other than try to get as many piñatas as possible, and increasing your garden value the most.

I'm absolutely in love with the game. It's a great change of pace from the other, more hectic titles in my collection.

I just happened to review the game, and I think it summarises the experience quite well.

But yes, it does have a lot of depth. In fact, one of the achievements is to play for 50 hours total, which can be done in the course of regular play. You can play this game easily for 20 hours without stopping.

After having went and got Viva Pinata and having put around 20~ hours in it so far, I have to say that Viva Pinata is the best single player experience I've had on the 360.  I didn't expect the depth I found because of the kiddy exterior.  But everything looked great and the game is excellent.

BUY IT! It is a wonderful game. That I wish I could play more. I have already put 20+ hours into it. I just play it once a week, but when I do, I put at least 3 hours into it.

Is Viva Pinata worth a buy?  Please only respond if you've actually played it.  I'm only skeptical because I worry that the game wont have the depth that I'm hoping it will.  Can someone give me a general run down on the gameplay and if its deep enough to keep me playing for a few weeks?
Heith

If you like Animal Crossing or the Sims, then sure.

It has that whole "Playing House" with Video game characters....also, if you like dolls.

I think it's okay, but my GIRL likes it a bit more. Still, I don't like those kind of THE SIMS and Animal Crossing gameplay, to each his own.

Bill Gates said the game was for GIRLS also, just so you know. I mean we knew, but he confirmed it for those that didn't figure it out, I suppose.

Too late.

The OP already did buy it.

HE was craving a good single player game and he owns a 360, so yeah, he was starved.

HE seems pleased though, as the bar he was looking for to be topped was 360 ONLY.

VP is surprisingly deep. The coloful art style is somewhat misleading. The premise is that you start a virtual farm/garden. There are around 50 different animals that you try to entice into living in your garden.. You can grow trees and different vegetables. You breed your animals. You can hire helpers. You have to fight off "rabid" animals or they will make your pinatas sick and they will die if not treated. Some species of animals just don't get along and will fight. If you have had a pinata for awhile, you'll find youself getting pissed if anything tries to hurt it. You can mold your garden anyway you like. It's definately worth checking out if you need a break from action titles.

Painfully slow, even as a RPG fan (typically a slow genre), that I haven't bothered with it since I first played it (put in about 3hrs). I'll probably pick it up again later, but there's others games out and coming out that are more worth my time imho.

Well, it is for girls, so I guess I didn't dig that OR the slow, slow pace.

Hehehe.

That was for comedic purposes.

It is honestly a great game for what it sets out to be, just not my style.

The whole Popular Animal Crossing thing I didn't like either, nor do I like THE Sims, or the Sims 2, but I know those are million sellers, so I know that they aren't bad games, just not for me.

I dig stuff like Okami, Zelda, ZOE, Onimusha, Gears, Lunar Knights, Resistance, Metal Gear, Final Fantasy, KOTOR, etc.

Hold it. It doesnt matter what Billy Gates says or what other people think of you. The game might be "girly" int he sense that it was aimed at a female population. However, playing it doesnt make you any less of a man. and the fact that it is intended for females doesnt mean you cannot like it. Now that we are clear. I understand that you didnt like it just by seeing your list of favorite games. I do like Viva, and I had never played a game like that before. So I guess now I am gonna try to broad my horizons and see if there are other things that I was afraid to try that I might end up liking. But yeah, I like playing Viva with my gf as much as I do it alone. Next time she offers me to read one of her horrible drama books, I will make it to chapter 2 before droping it.

I played Viva for 4 days straight and it was horrible. It was so boring I couldn't take it anymore. It's the same crap over and over. Bill Gates is correct for saying that the game is for girls. If you buy it and play it, be prepared to be let down. I regret buying it. It's the only 360 game I regret buying. I'm not bashing it, however it doesn't get a vote from me. The target demographic is for little girls and thats what I felt like playing it.

Hard to say.  I had a lot of fun with it at the beginning, but then I burned out after a while.  It got annoying when all my pinatas started to kill each other - at around lvl 22 garden or so.

That cartoon was for marketing, but Micorsoft got too greedy and didn't hire good enough talent.I saw it too, it was lame.

the game is good, even if it is for girls though.

Bill gates is a girly man, and he thinks it's for girls, so what does that make me? Well, I have always been more sensitive to my sisters and mom's feelings, so that does make sense.

he is a milllionaire and probably told them to make a girly game...look at the cartoon for proof.

either way, when  amillionare speaks, people listen.

Dude he is a billionaire and yeah I bet he wanted Rare to make a game for his kid. :D

It's well worth it... I only have 1 achievement left (50 hours) and I loved every minute of it. Like they all have been saying... it's got a lot of charm, and it's surprisingly deep for it's appearances. Get it today, and you won't regret it!!!
