I wouldnt put smash bros in 3D fighting genre because eevn thought teh characters and stuff are 3D you can only move in 2 dimentions. you should have put SC there instead.

While Gamespot does not create different categories for 2D and 3D fighters, here is a list of the Top 20 rated games in the fighting genre.

My favorite is the one that has 5 games in the Top 10. That's more difficult than getting a single 10 if you ask me. In fact, what other game series has 5 AAAs at GS?

Smash brothers is pretty much 2d gameplay, btw >_>

in any case, my favorite 3d is soul calibur, followed closely by the newer mortal kombat games

tekken is horrible, btw. :(

Actually, my favorite true 3D fighter is Tobal No. 2. Only if they had released it in the states. And yes, this is a PS1 Fighting game, Monk.....

VF4-EVO is a close 2nd but it's not true 3D. I see some of you mistake what 3D really is.

Hard to choose, but on that list, Smash.

I like Tekken and Soul Calibur just as much though.

I do lean more towards Virtua Fighter; but it's hard for me to choose between SCII (SC: Evo), Tekken Tag (Tekken 3: Evo) and VF 4: Evo three of the best fighters ever made.
