So I've come to the realization that MGSV is boring me.

I knew this a while ago but I've been in denial. Anyway, I remember someone a while back saying it was a sandbox game and the gadgets etc should be explored for new ways to infiltrate places.

I'm not really into that. I've upgraded my main things all the way and going around the same type of areas just either coming up behind them and getting a takedown or just darting them to sleep with my tranq is just easier than anything else is worth.

This type of play is in the game. So is it me who is to blame or the developer? Or anyone for that matter.

Is there a right way to play any particular game? Or just the best way to progress if that's what you want?

On some level yeah I would probably be a dick and say yeah you're kind of playing it boring and not using everything at your disposal, on the other hand

MGSV is missing difficulty settings which absolutely forced you to get better (in theory, you might not have wanted to go down that path either way) and because it's a cake walk town, a lot of the challenge comes from how much you want to put on yourself, and really if you hold yourself to perfect runs. The game isn't clicking with you man? That's fine, there are valid complaints against MGSV, personally when I defend that game, I disagree with wording that I don't think applies, for instance repetition, in the context that the side ops are repetitive? Fine. The main game? As in the main missions? **** no.

That and the solution was more of Kojima's shit writing? No thank you, some of us would like video game stories to actually get good, not maintain the status quo. For my tastes, the less Kojima plot, the fucking better.

Probably both.

They could have done much more to keep the game interesting. Either make the side ops worth while or trim those bitches down. Then actually enable some difficulty modes, because yeah if you want to, you can easily get through most of the game with the same tactics. The main missions are great, but what little challenge is there just washes away after a while.

Then, yeah. I know the "you're playing it wrong" shit is the most annoying shit to hear, but with some games there is a bit of truth to it. It's not an insult. It's not like you don't "get it". It's just that some gamers are interested in toying around with all the sandbox elements and having a million crazy little ways to do things while other gamers are just going to default to the most efficient way of doing things. Nothing wrong with that, you just won't find this type of game to be appealing after a while.

Some advice to maybe freshen things up a bit and add in some challenge?

Disable all crutches. No marking, no reflex mode, no enemy direction display, no hit detection display, no action icons, axe all of that shit.

Also set your weapons icon hud to only show when aiming/firing. I'd even axe the reticle display, just use a combo of first person aiming and laser sights. Once you've done the "Legendary Gunsmith" requirements, you can put a laser sight on everything.

Do those things and you'll instantly have a far more challenging, far more immersive game. It's great.

Also, if you're into this sort of thing, try some perfect stealth runs. Things quickly stop being repetitive when you do that. And when you get sick of that, go wreck some shit with some heavy weapons lol.

While I feel like MSG V kind of missed literal difficulty options and that might have resulted in a lot of people just stagnating in a certain play style throughout the game.

But at the same time, I don't really see how you can blame the developers entirely for this. The game can be made very difficult but that requires you to restrict yourself and not just go sleeping dart pistol sleeping dart sniper galore etc... in every mission. All in all everything is there to make it difficult and it isn't that hard to do....

I find it's important for the developers to make you approach the game in different ways, something they didn't really do well with this game. To me it came down to always doing the same things. Every time I would try something else, it felt more of a waste of time or feeling like I was trying too hard to have fun.

Fulton"ing" stuff or people was getting really old a quarter in the game. This is one of those rare games where I still don't get how I spend over a hundred hours if I was bored most of the time I was playing it.

I know I played Shadow of Mordor wrong and it greatly affected my enjoyment on the game.

I was trying to clear out the first area thinking that was it for the world. Wiping out the leaders proved challenging, but it was what it was. It was once I got to the second area, found out I was only halfway through the game, and that I could unlock a bunch of new abilities to make it easier for me that I was just... disappointed in myself. I had fun, but I would have enjoyed the game a lot more had I played it correctly.

@ConanTheStoner: that sounds like a good idea. I'll do all that and see if it makes it a better experience.

Thanks for the replies everyone,

This is an interesting topic.

I think I had fun playing it. My gf would say other wise. "You were so mad when you played it." I barely remember that but I guess she's right.

If it's not your type of game, that's not the devs fault, or yours.
