So Myiamoto has said Zelda:TP is the last zelda game of its kind. Being that a new Zelda is already being made ground up for the Wii it will have massive changes he says. I would love online like Elder Scrolls. And now that Ganondorf is finally dead and gone there needs to be a new villian. Maybe Link could go all Anakin Skywalker. I better not say that too loud Hayden Christensen might ruin that too.

Obvious Zelda changes: Online gameplay making it perpetual and open ended. More of a RPG feel. Keep the great dungeons but make the quests more complicated. A new baddie. Voice acting.

So, assuming this new Zelda makes it for the Wii around 2009, (Its already been in production for a year) and it has all of this features wouldn't it be  a huge Wii seller? I mean would that kind of a twist on the most hollowed Video game franchise not be worth the then $150- $200?

And what if they updated the Wii to 720 or 1080 like 360 updated its owners from 720 to 1080? Maybe thats too much. Who says they aren't going to put HD into it.

I think that would rock.

it doesn't really need any type of on-line support (imo) all it needs is quality VA, better side quests, orchestral soundtrack, tighter controls, a new villain. That's all. They nail that and it's almost guaranteed to be a hit.

fiction can be fun...
I think a lot of people would love to see Zelda get away from the OOT format but remember, Nintendo First Party games are designed to appeal to every gamer young and old...how do you thing Zelda would do as an RPG? mmm not so good...many people mad...

I agree, the series doesn't need any type of online support unless it's the addition of new dungeons to play after the storyline is over. However one change I would love to see is players actually playing as Zelda herself with Link helping her but it being her adventure instead of Link's and her being saved. I think that would be a radical change from what players are used to over the years. Steps were taken in that direction during OoT but she wasn't playable until she appeared in Smash Bros. Another change that would be interesting would be a more Fable approach to the game. I can see Legend of Zelda being down in the same style that Fable was done in. Zelda in also a traditional RPG setting would be interesting. Think about how large they could really make the world if they went in that direction and Nintendo doesn't really have a solid RPG series it can count on. A splitting of Zelda like that could be really great.

no zelda does not need to go MMO. no zelda does not need to become an RPG. zelda is fine the way it is, even though it will be different i think it will still be generally the same style of gameplay.

I meant to say Lord of the Rings, and Warcraft style. Crap, one mistake and there goes the thread. Alright well being as no one will listen now and leave jokes I might as well not check this topic again. Whoops! I meant if it was like a MMO. And I've played and beaten Twilight Princess, Wind Waker, Ocarina of Time, The Finnish Cap, and A Link to the Past. Not all of them but alot. Well, no one reads past the first three posts anyway. So have your fun kiddies!

The Finnish Cap.....You'll never live it down now :)

That said, I'm also a Zelda fan, but the day it goes MMO, is the day I stop buying Zelda games. To me the Zelda series is always about a good, single player adventure---no more, no less.

Why do people want online play in every freaking game possible. Some games are just better off without it.

IMO, Nintendo already changed Zelda with Majora's Mask. Even though the gameplay was the same as other Zeldas, it had a new world to explore, Termina, instead of Hyrule, it had a different main bad guy, and the story was completely different and didn't even revolve around Zelda, but we see how that was rewarded (8.3).

But yes, I think Zelda could use a few changes to spice the franchise back up.

Online does not = upgrade.  Zelda will never made an MMO and shouldn't be... That'd freakin ruin it.  So when you say it's "obvious" that the next Zelda will be online your're completely wrong.

It'll have a different formula, but retain some of the same roots.  It won't go out on a branch like Majora's Mask (IMO  better than OoT, and the best LoZ).  Like someone else said, look how it was rewarded.  It had a different world, different villain, and no saving Zelda.

Myamoto better be referring to voice acting when he says "last of its kind". I have no problem with Link staying silent, but come on. It's time for VA.

I would love to see a ful orchestrated soundtrack and some voice over. I wouldn't mind if they used full Japanese voice overs either, infact I prefer it. If they decide to do English voice overs, they better find some professional voice actors. I already have someone in mind for the voice of Link.

Also, I expect the next Zelda to be out by the end of 2008.

i wouldnt want anybody to voice link. he is supposed to be the silent hero that the player can relate to. but ya, i think the supporting cast needs voice work. midna, for example, would have had a lot more character with a voice actor.

MMO? Now that would NOT be good for the Zelda series. When Miyamoto says big changes, I'm expecting a new villain, and hell, maybe a new character who doesn't happen to wear a green tunic and have pointy ears. That would be a massive change for sure.

But I really can't think of too much that would change Zelda greatly while still being Zelda. That's the thing with Zelda, it's established itself in nearly every gamer.. It's practically its own genre.

He never said "big changes."  He said it will be the last of its kind and he was hinting towards a wii remote controll scheme.  People are reading way too much into it.  I'm sure we will see many improvements but if they changed Zelda too drastically it would cease be as popular.  Less popular = fewer sales = won't happen.

I agree. Sure Zelda has changed tremendously throughout the years but to think that N would tinker with the formula is ridiculous and you all know it. Does anybody here eve believe seriously that Nintendo would make Zelda a FPS?! That's got to be one of the stupidest things I ever heard.

Yeah... they re-released the original Zelda with SNES-level graphics and allowed multiplayer pay-per-play challenges online with the Broadcast Satellite system. They also allowed downloadable game demos and stuff. However, that was about 15 years ago, and Japan only.

Maybe Nintendo could step away from marketing icons and provide consumers with truely new content.  I don't understand why franchises continue into sequels that exceed the number 5 (at most).  I'd probably purchase a Wii later this gen if they released superior hardware and dropped the price into the $100-120 USD range.  But I doubt I'd purchase another Zelda game for any console.  The ports from 32-bit to digital have been poor and shallow -- more of a simple toy than a meaningful game.

If Nintendo wishes to remain buisness savy, they should simply take a similar enginge and give the world a new texture.  Keep the dull and shallow world, boring and simple plot, and fun gameplay... just insert next textures for once.

It needs to stay single player, and it needs to stay action/adventure style. A third person, action/adventure RPG would be perfect for the setting. You create your character... Hylian/Zora/Goron/etc... choose a class and occupation... and the rest can write itself.

No more rescuing Zelda... no more Master Sword... no more Ganondorf...

There is voice acting... but no English... made up languages for each race... just like Shadow of the Colossus...

The setting of the game is absolutely perfect for a single player RPG... and we definitely need more great singleplayer RPGs... seeing how as everyone is going MMO now... god... I hate MMO's...

You people are wishing on the wrong territory. There will continue to be a Ganandorf and a Master Sword and a Princess Zelda simply because of alot of reasons. However, you will continue to get games outside of that specific universe, the next Zelda for example will probably be like this, why? (Not counting with the first two) You have ALTTP, then you have LA. You have OOT then you have MM. You have TP then you have ? You have WW then you have Phantom hourglass. Not even counting with the four swords series and the oracle series and well others.

Since when was Elder Scrolls online? Plus no that wouldn't work, they just need to change the gameplay mechanics as they are getting dated.

I just don't understand some of you. When they changed the game style a lot (Wind Wakeer) you all complained, and said "Make it like OoT", so Nintendo went off and they made TP, which is similar to OoT. Straight away, you all complained "it's just like OoT". Well no freaking way , you asked for TP, so it's your own fault if you don't like it. Make up your minds about what you want in a Zelda game.
