The only good Zombie game was left for dead and the odd RE on PS1 and RE4. That doesn't excuse the other 98% of these boring pointless games Yeah?

Get bent nerd.
Zombie games are great. It's your fault for being more dense than a truck tire to enjoy zombie games.
basically this
Project Zomboid kind of looked like it could be interesting but really I don't think it will ever be in a really good state with only 1 dude working on it and otherwise quite shallow.
Zombies will be funny, irreverent, ironic, quirky and exciting forever said every imaginary focus group ever to every lazy game company exec/creative.
@PCgameruk: Best Zombie Games I enjoy are:
Not gonna include the Resident Evil games but you sure need to play the one's I listed and I happen to love Zombie games so yeah. If you think Zombie games are shit, you ain't even trying to look harder.
@Gamerno6666: apparently they're not zombies. They are called something else like 'infected'.
And to that I say bollocks.

The Last of Us has always been label as a Zombie game since it's heyday on PS3. The infected you are referring to came from the Cordyceps fungus, it effects Humans by turning them into some kind of undead creatures thus, the Zombie was born. A zombie bite is death and the infected biting Humans and spreading the disease is what the whole Zombie from the Last of Us came from.
My favorite zombie game is Dead Rising on the xbox 360. Being tired of zombies is like being tired of aliens, humans, or whatever. There are only so many enemy types in the game world.

There is some great variety in that list: not every zombie game has you doing the same stuff.
I'd also add Left 4 Dead as those are some of the best co-op games out there.

From my understanding, though, the hosts were still alive which differentiates them from actual zombies. Whereas a zombie host is dead and decaying, these infected aren't, so in theory if you found a cure for the fungus, you could bring back the hosts.

You are right, they do differentiates then the typical Zombie. Not sure why Naughty Dogs called the Last of Us a Zombie game though. My only guess is, it's a "Zombie game but not the typical Zombie game" is what I'm getting at by ND standards.

I put in about 900 hours into that game over the past 3 years or so, its one of my favorites.
I heard the console version is not good

As much as I like Zombie games, I do miss Vampire games in general. Wish the developers get back into making Vampire games at the very least.

TOTALLY agree.
werewolves can also make an interesting game feature
@davillain-: yeah 7 Days To Die is way underrated. It was a hot ugly mess when it first released on PC in UltraEarlyAccess, but it has shaped up to be a great game. As with SoD2, though, my opinion is that it really shines when playing with friends. I like that it's some of the best parts of survival+zombie mixed in with some of the best parts of Minecraft.
Alot of it is due to shitty Dayz clones on early access.
like which games exactly are clones or semi-clones of DayZ? because 7DTD sure isnt a clone
Dying Light is ok. Apparently.
So, Dying Light.
There has been garbage thrown into the mix but dying light prove what can be done when it's right.
I also think dead rising 1 done a great job.

how in the love of F is that a 'clone'?
because it has zombies in it and no other reason?

ok...i got it, any game that has a zombie in it is a DayZ clone.
ok that clarifies everything...i am moving on now

The Cranberries - Zombie wasn't really about a zombie.
It was about the IRA.

THe IRA are worse than zomibes. Zombies can't make bombs unless they are the Resident Evil 4 ones.

I'd also agree, we need more vampires and werewolves in games.
Vampyre is coming up, I hope that game is decent :)
I had good fun with State of Decay and so far having fun with the new one everybody is shitting on. Same with Dead Rising 3 and Dead Rising 4. I also enjoyed Dead Island and Dead Island Riptide and its successor Dying Light. Also less known is Rebellion's Zombie Army Trilogy which I like, and they have a new similar looking game with mummies coming out later this year, Strange Brigade. Oh, and of course, I like the Resident Evil games. I also consider the Dead Space games zombie games of sorts. And I like them not because I like zombie games, I just like fun games, and these are fun. Some people though, they demand only the best.
The Call of Duty games are supposed to have a good zombie mode, but I don't bother as I don't bother with Call of Duty games anymore, their SP campaigns are crap and all their effort seems to be on the competitive MP part of the game, and they almost never see any substantial discounts even when they're on a sale.
@storm_of_swords: thanks a billion. Been trying to find that game since i was 9 years old lol good times
I haven't played most of the games mentioned, but I do have a major disdain for the goofy glowy eyed zombies and multiple variants (fast one, fat one, magic one, etc) that I see in a lot of these games.
I would love to see a good narrative based game that made me feel like I was in a Romero movie. Not necessarily in a cinematic way, mainly just with the rules of his universe.
