Do you always complete your games? On easy or hard? 100% completion or not? Do you give up if it's too difficult?

I always intend to complete my games. I like 100% completion but it rarely happens.
I like games with lots of stuff to unlock and I want to unlock it all.
I always try to game at "normal" and if it's too hard, then I change it to "easy". I rarely play on "hard" exept if I completed the game on normal and there's still stuff to unlock.

If a game is too difficult, I look up for hints on the internet and will try it again. If it's not working, I quit that game but rarely sell it. I keep it in my collection and try it again after a while.

I'm ashamed to say that I have a problem completing games.  It's not so much that I can't, and it really has nothing to do with difficulty level, it's that I unconsiously don't finish.  I'll usually collect just about everything, squeeze out every hour, and then not do the final boss and the area leading up to it.  It's a strange problem....the last game I didn't finish was Castlevania DoS.  I haven't played it in a month, and I'm up to the boss area.....hmm, I should finish that.....

If a game has a % complete rating i will always try to get 100%...may take some time but i like to get the full %.

I have a issue with RPG's with regards to having to get every single skill, chest, weapon, extra side quests everything.

I usually only complete on Normal settings too cause i'm often rubbish on harder difficulties lol :?

I try to finish games, but more often than not, i'm leaving them to gather dust. I get bored with some games really easily, play them too much ina short period of time. I make a rule for not playing games on easy, unless it's stupidly difficult and never use hints/guides/walk throughs the first time through.

I always start games and NEVER finish them, its a pain.  I like lots of game and I onlt have so much time to play them all and before I know it I have 5 or so games just sitting there like paper weights.  There's just not as much time at this age.  When I was a kid we'd stay up all  night 2 nights ina row an beat all the games we could rent, no I'm lucky if I can get a couple hours in a week  : (

I rarely finish games.  I think the only game I ever finished was Trace Memory for DS.  Loved that game, really good.  I get frustrated easily w/ games.  When they get "too hard" I get all like "games are supposed to be fun, not hard!" and give up.  lol.

I agree, as soon as to point in a game where i find it a chore instead of a joy to play i sell it or forget about it.

I tend to finish games - if I don't that's odd. I also only tend to buy I 'know I'll like" so that could have something to do with it. ;^) Usually when I don't finish it because the game just didn't grab me - and most times I just can't figure out why. I never finished "Metal Gear Solid 3" or "Fatal Frame" or "The Thing" even tho they're all really pretty good games that I would say I liked - but they just never caught me. Then again there are games like "Enter the Matrix" that just plain suck. Also games like "Doom 3" that definately don't suck but are annoying (the whole flashlight thing) or just plain dull ("Doom 3" looked amazing but is really just plain dull).

Actually I need to add something .... there's this one game, FFTA. Now finishing this game is getting under my skin, because you have to complete 300 missions, and I have yet to do it. I honestly WANT to finish it (really and truly), but this is my 3rd time through and I am finding it next to impossible. Has anyone else played (or is playing) this game? It's driving me nuts....

I bought it a little while ago (1/2 price I was so happy), but there are just too many missions!  I've only cleared a little over 80 missions, and those battles where you run into people on the map suck up 20 minutes and don't even count towards your mission count.  A lot of the missions you can't do because you don't have the items, otherwise dispatching would be so much easier.  I'm sitting on probably 25 missions that I can't do cuz I don't have the jerky/used, or whatever, or I failed to properly level up a gunner....yeah.  And of course, sometimes you spend 1/2 an hour fighting then you die.

Somewhere along the line, I'd say hour 20, I slowed down because you're really just doing the same things with different scenarios added as a footnote, and I play it once in a while in between games.  I can't play it for too long in one sitting.  Believe it or not, I still do play it cuz I like the gameplay a lot, it's very chess-like, I keep it in my DS slot.  I'm in my 30ish hours.  I spent an hour on it a few days ago.  At that rate, I should be done half past next year!

You can beat the game without having to trade anyone for anything. That I know. But it does take a while. Jerky you get as a reward for completing a random mission, so keep doing those sub-missions. You said you keep it in your DS slot? Is there a DS version of this game?

Oh, no.  The DS has a GBA slot.  I guess I worded that wrong.  I should have said the DS's GBA slot....but that's a lot of acronyms :P

I mostly play games now for the story...well at least the games that have a story. Unless it's  really good gameplay I don't bother getting every single little secret that might require hours of repetition to get.

I obsess over it!  I finished Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance yesterday and I debated over running around the castle to find that last furniture piece for Juste's room.  I fought the urge though, I knew if I did, I'd never finish the game.  I can't express how incomplete it feels....

I used to be one of those guys that would read the walkthrough for some rpgs so that i could do every single thing and item. I admit that I do try to beat every part of mariokart but it's not the obsession that it used to be. heck for FPS's i just go through and enjoy the plot. the secrets don't interest me much at all. However rpgs do make me more obsessive than usual. but it's not that bad anymore.

I think that one reason was that i played a lot of PC mmorpgs and in those games there is a never ending amount of new loot to get every few months. at some point you don't find the loot all that fun anymore.

There's no way I can complete games 100%. I don't have the time or the skill. I'm lucky if I can even beat a game once. The only exception would be KOTOR 1 and KOTOR 2, both of which I completed with all sidequests for both the light and the dark side. For my money those games were better than the Star Wars movies. I logged a lot of hours with those. Back in University though, I had the time to beat games 100%. Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 and 3. I completed everything, with all characters and all gaps for both games. That took a long time. Soul Blade (for the PS1) was another game that I kicked major butt in. I can't finish Soul Caliber 2, it's too tough. Resident Evil 1 & 2 completed 100%, Tekken 2 100%, Tomb Raider 1 & 2 100%. Also a lot of the time the 100% completion is just catching gold coins or something. It's not always fun to get 100%. Like GTA San Andres: you have to spraypaint 50 tags, collect 100 horseshoes and another 100 other collectable? That's kind of boring if you ask me. Or Final Fantasy X? Do I want to press X 100 times dodging lightning to get a crest? No thanks!

It really depens on the game, although my track record has improved over the years. As of late I finish more games than I used to. That is, if I have time to play them. As I´ve almost constantly been playing MMO´s for the past 6 years. The pile of games I still need to play is ever present and growing.

Unless its to hard or to easy I prefer the default difficulty setting. I do make use of walkthroughs when I´m stuck. And occasionally use cheats to get past tough encounters. I don´t mind a challenge, as long as it doesn´t become frustrating.

I enjoy finishing a game, collecting and unlocking what I can. So you can say that "I beat that game." But at the same time, it has another bladed edge, especially if it was a really good game: it loses some of it's excitement. You go in a first time, and it's like "Oh yeah, bring it!" Don't know what to expect, can't wait to see what'll happen next. But once you beat it, if you go through and play it again, you know what's going to happen. You know you'll get this weapon here, you know this person will die, you know he'll try to reshape the planet in his own image (a reference to Kefka, actually). When you beat a game, it can both be joyous, and saddening. Especially if it was a rather difficult game. Because beating it makes it that much sweeter, but knowing the challenges and that you can do them, know how to do them, makes it that much...something.

I try to finish them, but if I get stuck on something  I'll play another game until I get stuck on that one. Once that happens I'll go back to the first game I was playing, so really it takes me a while completing a game. I do really try though!!!

So I was just browsing through some of the older posts on this forum, and I found this great topic, so I thought I would also chime in with my thoughts on completing games.

My goal with every game is to try and complete it.  However that can sometimes change throughout the course of me playing that game.  Depends on how much I really enjoy the game...because if I don't like the game that much, than I usually give up fairly early.

The most challenging games are often the ones that I try the hardest to finish.  And they also tend to be the more enjoyable ones for me as well.  KOTOR 1 & 2, as previously mentioned here, come to mind as great games that I completed a few times for each.

And I usually only try to use the net for Tips and Advice when I'm really stuck on an aspect of the game, or really confused.  A level or two from Splinter Cell comes to mind.

But overall, finishing a game is nice to aim for...it just doesn't always happen for me.  And now I'm playing two games on my XBOX that can take quite a bit of time, LOTR and Morrowind: Elder Scrolls.  So I won't be completing either of those two for quite a while now :)

I have this weird habit of almost completing a game and then buying a new one, thus never finishing the first game. either that, or I'll try to keep two different games going at once, only to eventually focus on one over the other and then never complete the other. every now and then, by some magic, I'll actually finish a game.

The only time I have not completed a game is if it crashed and could not be resurrected. Easy mode is my norm.

I tend to "complete" every game, even on the hardest level.  My problem and growing niggle is that, as I work, I usually pick up games late which means the majority of the MP achievements I can´t get because someone has turned off the server, or there simply isn´t anyone playing them anymore.

So they sit there, half completed, goading me... Grrrr!

Dev's should have some sort of update which removes achievements if they turn off the server - if not, how can you get 100% on a game if, like with MOH:Airbourne, the servers no longer exist?  It´s like asking a cop to resist a donut - it´s never gonna happen!

Luckily, I am not eaten up with the obsession for completing games, there are a few that I would love to get 100% acheivement on, ME2 being the primary one, Red Dead also, but I find that my interest wanes if I have finished the main storyline and am just wondering around to find an acehievement. I have many games that I have finished the campaigns on, but I don't have one single game that I have hit 100% on as to the acheivements.

I don't know if that is good or bad to tell the truth...

The good thing about achievements is that in games like ME or Fable, it forces you to explore "off the beaten path" as if you just follow the storyline, you get to half the level etc.  With ME I managed Lvl 50, something the Gamespot game guide said was tough on the first attempt, mainly because I explored every corner of every planet and opened EVERYTHING I could find...

My problem is that the dev's seem to be inviting gamers to jump straight into MP because if you don´t, after a few months there´s no one playing online which means there´s no way the average player like me who works & plays will have the time necessary to unblock achievements before the server is pulled.

It´s frustrating, but not an obsession.  Just seems unfair on players who buy the game late (eg in the sales) only to find their "glory" is limited.  I was shocked to go back to Battlefield Bad Company 2 and find so few players online...  I was playing late for Spain (eg early for the US) and it was hard to get more than a 5-a-side match.  Shame really.

As I also play mmorpgs, I'm seldom able to finish games. I do like achievements, but only rarely go after specific ones. Bioware and Blizzard are possibly the only developers who's games I've had multiple play throughs. On the other side of the spectrum is Rockstar, I have yet to see the final chapter of any of their games. I play them because of the atmosphere. But as there is too few diversity in the mission structure, it often feels like a déjà vu. So I get easily bored with it.

Edit: typo

Yes its never easy to get 100% completion. : /

Multiplayer is most time consuming all that rank 50.
