What do you all think about the next gen consoles?  I'm picking up a Revolution cuz I love Nintendo games, plus I love the download library.  The controller is also pretty interesting.  Developers seem to really like it, I hope it catches on.  The only downside is that now I can't make fun of my friends who tilt around the controller when they're playing racing and fighting games

I'm thinking about picking up a PS3 down the line a few months after launch.  I think I missed out on alot by only having 1 console this gen.  Plus it's backwards compatible so I could pick up some older games when I can't fit a new game into my budget.

I'm not really interested in the 360 since I'm only looking to get a 2nd console.

I'm afraid of the reports that games are going to get more expensive with the next wave of consoles.  I have bills to pay!

I'm gonna do the standard thing I do... wait at least 6 months after a system is released before buying it. There are all gonna be real pricey. I MAY get a Revolution on the first day, maybe.

What I was hoping for was that the Rev would catch on the HD-DVD boat, in an attempt to get that as the standard format, because DVD backcompatability is a nice feature.

I'm in "Wait and see" mode on the XBox 360... so far there's just nothing compelling (at least nothing compelling that isn't also available on the PC). I may still depending on how the backwards compatibility works out (I never did get an XBox for the same reasons... but if the 360 plays a majority of XBox games I may consider it). I'm not too excited by it however. It' sounds "nice" - but not "rock my world nice". No next generation DVD and nothing that my PC doesn't do. (If you don't have a PC or have a poor gaming machine the 360 is pretty attractive - you'll be able to do "Quake IV" and "Half-Life 2" and lots of others... but I CAN do those already.) I'm intrigued by the next generation of XBox live (online was never Sony's strong point) and it's media player capabilities (but I've already got a networked media player)... but the exclusive games just aren't there for me. Then again I may just get one because, well... I can. And it'll be the only one out for a while. ;^) The PS3 is so veeeeery enticing. I'd be getting one in any case just because Sony has me trapped by it's franchises ("Ratchet and Clank", "Jak", "Sly Cooper", "Final Fantasy", etc) and just plain inertia: I'm a big Playstaion fan and the full backwards compatibility is REALLY attractive. Lastly since I already have an HD TV the PS3 will be the perfect starter Blue-Ray player. The Revolution is going to be backwards compatible, is going to offer all those classic games and is (most likely) going to be cheap. We never get very many games for Nintendo systems (let's be honest, they never have many games) but it's usually worth the cost of the system just for "Mario" and "Zelda". The only, minor, point I'd like to see is an annoucement of a GBA player (I was really hoping Nintendo would take the obvious step and build the GBA emulator directly into the system... but that's not going to happen). Besides, if Nintendo actually brings the active gaming experiences they're promising I may get one just so that my kids don't end up big and fat like dad. ;^) So... summing up: XBox 360, maybe (but probably); PS3 definately and Revolution almost definately... but probably not day one.

Actually it looks like most Blue-Ray and HD DVD drives are going to be backwards compatible with existing DVDs - they just won't be compatible with each other. ;^) The PS3 will be backwards compatible with CD and DVD (in both cases both data and video/audio will be supported). I'd love it if the Revolution would be be HD DVD - then I could have both BlueRay and HD DVD systems but not get a new DVD player until either the format war is over or it becomes a non-issue with multiple-format players (does anybody care about the differences between DVD-R and DVD+R anymore?) I also won't be at all suprised to see a second, HD DVD edition of the XBox 360 come out in about a year. Yet another reason I'm tentative about buying one.

I plan to pick up a Revolution, but probably not right when its released. The controller is definately a selling point, plus the backwards compatibility. Nintendo has always been my favorite as far as consoles and exclusives. I might pick up an Xbox 360, but probably after it has been out for awhile. There arent many Xbox exclusive titles I am interested in, what is probably going to determine if I get one is the online play. The PS3 is last on my list. I havent heard all that much about it, and there aren't many games that are PS exclusives that interest me. Most of the games I get are Nintendo only, or multi-console. I have all 3 consoles now, and knowing the way I am and my 'gotta have it' mentality sometimes, I will probably end up with all 3 again. :) Its definately going to be interesting to see what happens over the next year once all 3 are out.

I'm not really sure.  I really like portable games, i.e. my DS.  Console games are for at home and when I'm at home, I have a hard enough time keeping up w/ my Tivo playlist and my emails and all the forums and websites I like to go to and my blogs etc etc etc.  I don't play consoles much anymore EXCEPT KATAMARI which is awesome!

I am curious about the revoultion controller so I'll definately try it sometime, but not sure if I'll rush out and buy it.  I love gadgets, portable things.  Games to play while sitting in restaurants, at the sushi bar, at the coffee house, in the dentist's waiting room.  That kind of thing (the DS) is more what I'm into now.  :)

Once I saw the 360, I decided to skip it and wait for the Rev.  I thnk Nintendo is primed for a homerun there.   Nothing wrong with the other systems at all, but I know how much I love my DS (because it offers something new), and I really think this could be the new road into gaming with the interactivity.

I like my Xbox, but I didn't buy it for almost a year and a half after it was released because I always thought of the launch lineup just a little less than appealing to me.  I know Halo was around, but that's not enough to warrant the 200 bucks I would have paid just to play it.   I get the same feeling about the lineup for the 360.  Make no mistake, that thing is going to be awesome once they fill out the library, but by the time the games really start coming in, the big N will be on it's way.

So, I think my Rev will come first.  I am for the first time, really considering a Sony over the Xbox. If it looks as gorgeous as I think....oh man.

Im also in the "wait and see" mode about the X360, but it is likely that I will go and buy it as soon as the price drops. The PS3 lost alot of interest from me since they have gone on record saying "this is not a gaming machine", and that's what I want from a console, one that is focused on games and not one that has games as an option. The Revolution we don't know much about, but the controller has really peaked my interest in it, though there are no games announced, no specific hardware announced, not much more than the controller and the backwards compability has been announced. So it is interesting, but I know too little about it to get all hyped up :), the good thing about the Revolution though, is that it's likely to be the cheapest on the market when it finally hits, and that's really good ;).

I want a ps3 because I've got a hugh ps2 collection. I like the games more on my ps2 than on my xbox. So I will go for the ps3. Maybe I pick up the xbox360 at a price cut. I'm totally not interested in the revolution. I got now a cube but I rarely play on it. Nintendo lost its good old touch.

Loved Nintendo for decades now, can't wait for the next one. Will finally be able to play, lol. Roommate's on tv, so playing's not an option until he's finished. Definitely agree with waiting, though. As eager as I am to experience the next generation, I'll wait to save a few $'s.

I still have my N64, I had so much fun with it when my son was about 6 y/o. I have only played on a Wii for maybe 5-10 minutes. Was at a friends house and did the baseball HR derby thing of something like that. I could be fun in small doses, but I couldn't see playing games like Mass Effect, BF, Red Dead on such apparatus', it would take you forever to get through them. The Wii U at least has a more controller like controller. but it apears so huge and cumberson for extended play also.

In all honesty, I fear the Wii U will do little to salvage the Wii following.

As for th eXer and the PS3, I dread new consoles there, I have too much invested in the current titles and setups. Don't want to start over. Both MS & Sony will cut their own throats if they don't allow current games to play on any new consoles they develop and release..
