I've liked rap longer than metal, but I don't always listen to it. I have been listening to Jay-Z and OutKast recently, though.
Here's a rap topic which has been somewhat vaguely titled.
It's just the community. Another site with a different community = different overall taste in music.
In my time here on GS I've noticed that Hip-Hop and Rap is not really talked about that much. No way as much as rock, classic rock, and metal is. Any reason for that? Does anyone here like Hip-Hop as well. I do. But I don't see too many other users who do.Swanogt19You know I love myself some rap music (we have talked about it eleswhere). That besides Gospel/jazz/blues is what I grew up on and grew into.
Most people who say they hate rap music, base it on what is really popular. They don't take the time to get recommendations (it's happened to me elsewhere) and they just don't want to hear other things or give it a chance.
It's just the community. Another site with a different community = different overall taste in music. aaronmullanIt's not just here. I use a lot of different site and the consensus with the lots say that it's trash and all that other nonsense. But when you say something about the music they like, they go crazy and get rude.

Those are the kind of kids I don't want you hanging around with. Those are bad kids, the kind that'll grow up to be drug dealers and the like!
Certain artists simply give certain genres a less than favorable name.
It's with all genres. The popular thing to do these days:
LOL RAP IS DEAD LIL WAYNE & T-PAIN
I personally find 99% of hip hop to be mind numbingly boring...IÂ don't hate the genre, but listening to it puts me to sleep.
There are a handful of rappers that I like though, such as Immortal Technique, Nas, Jedi Mind Tricks, Army Of The Pharaohs, etc.
But I don't really LOVE any of it...just ok for an occasional listen.
Have you listened to 99% of hip hop?
Â
:P

I just don't like it when people pull numbers out of nowhere.
I'd talk about hip hop and rap, if there were artists around that didn't talk about either being on a boat, bringing in money, or doing girls up the ass.SonicRenegade84
Now, if there was an artist that talked about all 3 at once I'd talk about it non stop! That would be epic.

To be fair, the thread was created by a rap hater who quoted a rap-hating rapper in the first post of the topic!

Mum used to shun Rap because of its swearing, saying it's the work of the devil. :|-Katsuri-It was the opposite for me. My mom thought that one band ws really devilish, I can't remember. Other than that, she enjoys some of the stuff I have.
I was until I started to remember them as Jimmy Fallon's talk show band. If you count them as rappers, the only rappers from today I like are Flo Rida and T-Pain(because he actually.....you know....sings).SonicRenegade84Is Flo-Rida the elevator song guy?

Eh? I know he does "Right Round"Â
Well I am glad to see we have plenty of people here that listen to Hip-Hop. Anyone hear fan of the Roots?Swanogt19
Yessir! Did you check out the Late Night mixtape with all of Black Thought's epic guest verses? It was suitably epic.

Yet he uses auto-tune so shouldn't that be irelevant? ;)
And you know that mysterious rapper that kept featuring on all those songs by other rappers? Yeah, I wonder what rap group he could've been a member of?

Still, he sings in his tracks. Drake does too, but his rapping is also good as well.Â
