This is an idea I have for a more personal kind of "artist of the week", in which you can post yours. You could say their name along with song links, information and a picture. Whatever you want to do.
And, of course, I mean music artist.

El-P.
I first discovered him on the Definitive Swim free compo album. I downloaded it for Aesop Rock, but his song was eh on it. As were most of the rest. El-P's was the only song that stood out. Excitedly I grabbed one of his albums from JB-Hifi and then...well it was disappointing. I listened to it quite a bit for the next few months, and it was pretty much background music for Tales of Symphonia. And Vents was much better at that!Â
Then suddenly---bang! And holy crap...he wasn't just indie teenage-paranoia any more! His beats were incredible, his lyrics fantastically subtle bragadaccio-politics-introspection all with the perfect amount of rap references and commentary. Oh, and he has fantastic comic timing, can flow over absolutely everything, and makes some of the best beats going around these days. By far my favourite individual rapper at the moment.
Oh, and the same thing happened when I heard Fantastic damage. Thought it was boring at first (Company Flow also). And now recently the same thing happened with his tour tapes. At first they were all a bunch of material that i could understand him throwing away for non-album albums. :P Now, holy crap! He's managed to successfully remix Mars Volta, The Who, Nine Inch Nails and countless others, while also crafting some fantastic instrumental hip hop. Well that's why he's artist of the week. Err, the latter part. I'm still addicted to those demo tapes.Â
Oh, and dear ****ing God.Â
Krazy Kings 3.
The ultimate graffiti anthem and so much more.Â
Tom Waits
Because I fell in love with his gravely voice and blues-jazz stuff not long after giving it ago :P
This week, I have literally not listened to any music other than the radio when driving places. I broke my laptop's hard drive, and it had my Zune player on it, and I'm too lazy to copy 35 gigs of music from my external hard drive onto my new computer.

Brad Paisley
An AMAZING guitarist and songwriter, Brad Paisley is one of the best country stars out there today. With songs like "Online", "I'm Still A Guy", and his newest single, "Welcome To The Future", Paisley has outshined many stars since his debut into country in 1999, and he hasn't looked back since. I first found out about this guy when watching him perform "Online" at the CMA's, and even though I didn't know the name of the song or his name itself, I loved it. All it took was one listen to his album, "5th Gear", to confirm my fandom. Also, with the song "Throttleneck", and the solos from "Online", "Welcome To The Future", and "American Saturday Night", Paisley shows he is one of the most underrated guitarists in music today. Now I say to you......GIVE A LISTEN!

last.fm indicates that Tom Waits is my artist of the week as well. :)
he is pure genuis. imo. I love his lyrics inspired by beat poets like Kerouac, Burroughs and Ginsberg.

Thanks to last.fm, I've been listening to Tycho all week. Those of you who like ambient/light electronic will love his work. Good grooves, and kind of ethereal, which I like.
Steve Vai.Yes, it is. I'm digging that album now. :)Passion And Warfare is ******* amazing :D
Darth-Caedus
Pink Floyd would get my vote.
Camel. Not exactly their best album or songs, I do like this one. They are one of Opeth's influences believe it or not. Their simple melodies are addictive and Andrew Latimer's voice is quite good.
My artist of the week is probably The Birthday Massacre
Oceansize is my Artist of the Week for me. Just finished their new EP, Home & Minor, and it was very chill stuff.freek666
