Haunting Ground is an awesome one,Kuon, such a shame for that game to be so unpopular,1000 times better than Siren which is kinda popular.Ok,i won't deny that i'm a resi-fangirl,except both Outbreaks, and Silent Hill 2,that game is kicking ass.Plus another really good and MULTIPLAYER survival, that you should check out whenever you feel like,is Obscure. You can also play it on your own,but up to 4 players that you can control at the gameplay, you do understand how fun it is when you play with mates.

Which one was the "one" you said which one was a demo of"another"?
Haunting Ground!! That game is awesome! Anyone here played it? PER85
Yup I really did play Haunting Ground
As far as I'm concerned of RE 4,I just dont include it in the horror games genre at all cuz it's plain action{in my perspective}.What do ya guys think of it?bigboss_johndoemore like action/horror.
Personally i havent ever found myself scared playing a game.
Im an HP Lovecraft fan and as far as im en ce qui je mai concerne, there isnt anything scary about games like RE, or SH. The original Silent Hill i think did frighten me, but i was like...10? 7? So im highly suspect of whether it was any good. Castlevania was crap for fear factor... Im really sepressed with the state of the horror video game industry. They just never seem to get it right!
Doom 3 was fun, but i found it a bit tame.. The enemies never surprised me with their tactics, the element of horror disperses once you can see your enemy, thats why in good Horror productions, the enemy is either unknown or non-visible during most of the action. The enemies were well crafted, but they lacked that intangibility that makes "monsters" so scary. Personally i hate horror games with weapons. Or at least fully fledged arsenals.
NONE of the resident evils have any element of horror, maybe survival. Personally if they replaced the zombies with a flesh eating virus id be more scared. The zombies make me laugh, im sure alot of people think they look more than a bit stupid... Silent Hill has only gotten the acclaim its recieved because, and this isnt its fault in any way, its the only commercial "cerebral" horror game out there. I remember playing a text based horror game a long time ago, that was good. I think it was based around the Thing. Anyway all i can say to advise true horror-philes is that you wont find what your looking for in commercial game products, you really need to keep your eye under the radar to catch the games with the right atmosphere.

Two words. Fatal Frame  Do it in surround sound too.
I don't think Castlevania was never intended to be ultra scary (you would think with all the blood around), and I don't think it was Iga's intentions from the beginning to be that way- it was derived from many classic monster/vamp tales that we know today. It's pretty cliche- but in a way that definitely works.
I definitely agree with you about RE (though I'm going to be careful about what I say with all the fans lurking around :P) I like the premise, but Zombies have never scared me- they're just.....icky to look at! And not even in a gory fashion to me. Scared isn't the right word- I'd say more of suspense.
Silent Hill I just started to play- I guess I'm not looking to see how much a game is going to scare me (just not a huge horror buff I think) but again coming down to the premise, storyline, and gameplay. So far I've been quite impressed. :)
I'm not familiar with HP Lovecraft- would love to hear why you like it and would love some details on it!
