I really like the new design. It does extends to unions, just press community tab and you are there in unions. Unions are in order: Leader, Officer, and recruit. GS is trying to get opinions from everyone. I am going to start using the beat version.
The new design improvements have been in the works since before anybody currently at Giant Bomb left GameSpot. In fact, the redesign is the first phase of improvements required for any improvements in unions. Hopefully more information will be available as we get closer to 2009.

Idk how much we're allowed to know, but does that mean there's zero chance of them coming with the mid-August launch of GameSpot Wide? GS Wide has to be successfully implemented before union updates are even possible?

It probably means that the Union Improvements will build upon the new gamespot design. Something I think is good.
This is the first time in a long time that things have happened, and I love it!
