Dawn of War War Hammer 40000II will be released in 2009. The long awaited sequel to the "best RTS game of the year" has been long awaited. Would you get it though?

Things will be changing, such as New weapon Unlocks.

Units will get levels.

New multiplayer Modes

New Race.

Lot's of new things to be unvailed, but are they worth 50 dollars at Best Buy?

Aye yeah, the new race is the Tyranids or something like that isnt it? They are supposed to be over powered as although they lack unit types they can just over run with brute force and speed I believe?

It sounds interesting but I really need to get back into Dawn of War before getting this.

Ya they were the race the zerg from starcraft were originally modelled after.  And ya in table top on paper they look unstopable, in reality tho if you have the right units on the field to counter them they arent as bad as most people think.  That and most people dont realize that spore pods (deepstrike) are an optional rule that takes the conscent of the other player involved and this is where nids get REALLY powerful.

so i just kinda realized theres going to be virtually no buildings in the game (that you as a player can build anyway). Certain hero's look to make turrets, but thats about it.  The game doesnt even look to include builder units.  There are no tech buildings seemingly either.  Will be interesting to see a game about pure battles like mark of chaos, but the ability to reinforce and upgrade troops on the fly.

Its probly going to force alot more teamwork with people too, as players wont be off messing around with thier bases when their buddies are getting mauled.  I cant wait for this game to come out, i cant play dow1 right now because of the router im on, and i need my rts fix!!

mm....i don't now war-hammer without making your own base ,trying to make the best defence in the perfect spot , resources , upgrades , trying to have the best units and many others ..... it isn't much of an RTS is it ? i mean it looks to me more like duke nukem and DOTA together . there isn't much of thinking for your next move you'll gust go for it and try to win with little luck on your shoulders ..... if it is like that i think they are doing a mistake , most of the DOW fun's will be disappointed !!!

DoW doesn't try to be a defensive game. Its more strategic and involved with combat.

Both are true I feel. I like building a good base but the combat is probably more key but I sometimes feel you do need the movement. I mean Eldar can win a good fight with strategic placements of their warp portals where as Orks just bash everything really. If you get a person who spams out the same unit and just destroys all its not the best.

OK so I followed the advice of our esteemed commander and got myself a copy of the original dawn of war from a friend who no longer plays. Just the original game and no expansion. Any advice on tackling orks with my space marines - I'm on mission 4 at the moment and things are hotting up. I can now build heavy bolter turrets and dreadnaughts, which seem to be kick ass when attached to an infantry unit or at least when wandering about with one. How do people rate this original game?

Hmm, I have not played the original game itself, I got the anthology so play Dark Soul expansion for all the units it has etc. I reccomend building strong troops up with anti infantry guns. Dreadnoughts are great for close combat and also for ripping up a base. Try taking out their WAAAAGH banners first as they can be a pain when they are constantly shooting. Also capture as much of the strategy points as possible to restrict their resource rate. Terminator squads are a good idea along with a force commander and just focus on strong units and get them together rather than have weaker units as the Orks tend to wipe out the weaker sides quite quickly unless you can move around fast.

I am in the same boat, although using the big Star Wars type hover ships does work, if you can get the one with the long range missile attack, a few of them can take out one building very quickly.

Thanks for the respionse. Nicking resource points from the enemy does seem to work, though less so in the original as it seems to be story driven. Eldar up next followed by Chaos, if the FMV's are an indicator. All the orks are now dead, though bosses are really tough and the giant dino things orkies have are flippin stupidly hard.

Erm, apparently not, as I breezed through them like a hot knife through butter. Anyway, Chaos, the ture enemy revealed stand as the final opponents in this saga, which has been cool, if a little short. This mission has a time limit of sorts as well. Better hurry up and finish it, cos I'm a contemplating buying a 360 and consigning my soul to Oblivion (and GOW2).

They can be tricky depending how they play, if you use the warp portals they can be very effective at hit and run attacks and the wraith lord and banshees are very good at close combat. However, their main troops can be quickly taken out with anit infantry turrets as they are very weak at close combat.

It's hard to win with elder unless your experienced with them. I finally mastered Tau. When your tau you have to slowly push forward and because you can't build turrets(other than listening posts)you have to leave some units in reserve in case they attack.

I actually find the Elder (once you know what you are doing) are great for quick hit and runs. The hardest are the Imp. Guards. Impossible to deal with, unless you want to spend the game huddled in your barracks.

I agree, Imperial Guard just seem to get ripped up every time I use them, their units seem very weak and the basalisk takes too long to reload to be effective without support.

I can do OK with imperial guard but I have to usually defend until I can get my advance units because your basic units suck.

I would say the Dreadnoughts are quite powerful in a group, although the Eldar wraith lords and the big dude with the sword is also very powerful.

Wraith Lords seem to go down easy to dreadnaughts. The Avatar is hard though. Imperial guard do get the only unit that can upgrade to fire at scouts who are hidden though. Imperial Guard grenade launchers are indirect fire and can for some reason be targetted at turf rather than enemies, so you can take out them pesky snipers that you cannot see. Oh, and the baneblade may be the most powerful vehicle in the game, but the amount of resource you have to put into building one sort of balances this out when compared to the tank units of other races.

Thats absolutely true about the BaneBlade. But I think it is the only perk to the Imp. Guard.

I think the ability to shoot invisible snipers is also pretty good. Grenade them to death. No other race can do this and ever since Winter Assault, snipers have been the single most annoying unit in the game as they can in this game onwards, fire while cloaked. Indirect fire is the imperial guards strength. Like the eldar, they do not respond well to close quarters and they cannot bring the weight of firepower to bear that other races can. However, they are cheap as hell and my housemate reckons they are probably one of the best races in the game if you are willing to be patient with them and learn their nuances. I'm not that sort of patient, hence why I don't do very well with this sort of game. (Unless of course I'm playing orks. Dakka Dakka.
