Make 5 nominations and I'll turn it into a poll where you can place your vote. Remember, it is for this year only, so don't go grabbing disappointments from 10 years ago or something.
I'm feeling nice, so I won't count mine :P
Dang, there goes Put Put goes to the moon (Dos) :P
Er... I am going to go with ... GRID. Its a good game but it disapointed me with how it should have been to what it was. For fans of TOCA its disapointing (well some TOCA fans that is, not all) as its gone very arcade handling and lack of strategy in races such as pit stops and the constant bargaing online which people get away with scott free is annoying.
Alone in the Dark - The game felt like it could've used another 6 months of development (like the ps3 version got).despa1r_fact0r
Interesting, is the game any better with patches? My friend loved the PS1 game but I havent played any. I did see the limited edition full game with all the bonus stuff for 10 pounds on PC or 20 on 360 which seems a good deal.

Apparently the PS3 version was supposed to be good :P
On topic: The Metal Gear announcment. I was hoping Konami would announce a Metal Gear 4 for 360, sadly they didn't >_>

I've only played the Wii version and they don't have patches for it.
A few titles disappointed me this year:
Haze: This shooter had a lot going for it- anyone with a PS3 hoped it'd be great- no such luck. It wasn't an outright failure- the game in question was still decent- but it suffered from a boring campaign and storyline, graphics that looked like they were made using the dated Doom 3 engine, technically troubled AI, and other problems. It was all the more disappointing because it came from- and subsequentially doomed- Free Radical, a company experienced with shooters. It's obvious they underestimated the challenges of making a next-gen engine.
Spore: No- my reasoning for saying Spore was a disappointment are different from what you may have seen others say... (Most just complain about simple gameplay from what I've seen) Yes- the gameplay was shallow- but it was still quite fun, and benefitted from the game's excellent creation tools.
Well, that was the case for the first four phases anyway... For me- the one and only reason Spore was a disappointment- is the space phase. It was SUPPOSED to be the best part of the game. Instead- we got a clunky exploration sim. The diplomacy was boring, the missions were way too repetitive, and the camera for exploring planets was bad- needing constant micromanagement. It was quite surprising at how unpolished the space phase was compared to the first four phases.
And finally:
Little Big Planet: First off- this is by far the least disappointing of the three games I'm listing here. The creation tools in this game are probably the best that exist in gaming in general- and the community tools are excellent as well. The main problem with Little Big Planet for me- was that the platforming itself was extremely loose. As such- precise platforming can be very frusterating in Little Big Planet. It's not all bad though- other aspects of Little Big Planet's platforming- such as swinging- make up for the game's incredibly loose jumping.
Those are my choices for most disappointing games of 2008. If I had to choose a winner out of the three- I'd probably go with Spore. I was expecting so much more out of the space phase really. :(
Fable II was a let down for me. It's still a decent game, but it has a lot of bad things ruining the experience. It's short, the combat is dumb, the story - although having some high points - ultimately falls flat, crowds of fans block your path if you're careless and the co-op leaves much to be desired. I have heard people like one of the X3F guys say the combat is intuitive because you can string together magic, melee and ranged attacks. This is wrong. There simply aren't any combos in the game beyond following up one attack with another that is almost the same. Fights usually end by button mashing X, button mashing Y or holding down B and killing everybody at the cost of taking loads of damage - or several of these right after each other. You better have some celery, because any form of meat, pie or cheese will make you morbidly obese and stapled as an evil psychopath. Play the Lute however, and the game grants you a freaking halo over your head.
I guess this is also a testament to how many good games I bought this year. Fable II was my biggest letdown, but I still managed to enjoy it.
I had my worst disapointment in 2008 . I went my local store to buy a game ...the summer was at the end ... no sea,no fishing,no beers at the beach... it was a perfect time to buy a game ... so i purchase Conflict: Denied Ops :-(..... Man what a huge dissapointment i mean why do games like this are at stores ? no imagination, no originality ,gust bullets all over the place with no meanning at all ....Guys don't buy this game please....bobthesponge
I heard it was bad, its such a shame as I really enjoyed Conflict Desert Storm, fantastic single player and co-op on one console is amazing (my friend got an Xbox for christmas a few years ago with CDS and Halo, we were on Conflict Desert Storm for ages, setting traps for tanks to ambush them, doing the mission objectives etc). I would love a third game in that series to be brought to next generation consoles (360,PS3, PC, and Wii) with online co-op and split screen as well.

Good times.
What is this Haze game? I haven't even heard about it :|DeadManRollin
It was Free Radical's PS3 exclusive shooter. It had a lot of hype and most people felt it was very disappointing, especially considering Free Radical's following at the time, that the game ended up being released flawed and very buggy.
I think that sonic unleashed was VERY disappointing. It got so much hype about it bringing sonic games back from the brink. Sadly sonic chronicles didn't do much better.nealsdaman
I liked that game. I think Sonic The Hedgehog on 360 is the only really disappointing one I can think of.Â
Haze just gets this result with Alone in the Dark 5 only one vote behind. This is unfortunate as Free Radical have all but disapeared due to financial issues. This result is a bitter pill for this and so please bear this in mind when replying.

People Will dissagree with Me.......But I say Fallout III. Game was short and anticlimatic, I Know a game like this gets its lenght from all the siedequests, but still, Oblivions Quest was Allot longer.Hate to use the oblivion comparrisson, but I felt this game wanted to be Oblivion 1.5, and Honestly, I expect more from My games these days.Faller88I agree .... i vote for fallout 3 but i think more work on that game would've done it more perfect . to short , not many sidequests , and this stupid idea of ending the game at the end of the main quest !
