OK, i'll admit Warriors Orochi 2 didn't even catch my attention long enough to finish a single battle. I did like Orochi 1 though. Thought it was pretty cool. Now 3 is coming to the West around the end of March - and they've returned Item Hunting!! One of my fav parts of the old skool DW games. So hopefully we'll be seeing some other old skool touches on Orochi 3.

Sorry, but I liked WO2 enough to unlock all characters and max out my favourite team. So I'm stooked for this!

To stir discussion, which team would everyone like to form?

Ha, I see your team is set then.

I'll personally hold out till I get to see what characters they'll offering, but surely I'll do the usual and pick them with clans and known bonds (eg. the Tokugawa clan, Shu kingdom, etc)

the logic was around their quiet demeanor off the battlefield yet fierceness on the battlefield.

no, but that was the logic in the first grouping. Cao Cao killed Lu Bu and Zheng Fei really wanted to kill Lu Bu. And also Zheng Fei really wanted to kill Cao Cao. and of course Cao Cao wanted to kill everyone who wasn't on his side - and even some who were on his side.

except that when Gan Ning was off work he was roudy and nutty whereas Guan Yu and Zhang Liao sat NEVER stopped working - they were always caught up in their DUTY. in fact, Zhang Liao never quit working the entire story till he died. Gan Ning however knew how to let his hair down and relax. that's all.

so Zhou Tai, because he was a body guard for Sun Quan which meant he never let his hair down either. he was always on duty and always very, very serious. he had to stay focused so he could take all those hits for Sun Quan and not flinch.

It was like that in DW7 and hell generally I didnt think it was a good match up anyway

Zhang and Yu have been rivals for many games, and hell historical to so thats why I see reasoning of Guan-Liao -Liao- Ning rivals

welp, i just ordered a new HDD for my PS3 from newegg.com -  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822149245 - it'll be a small improvement over my stock 40 GB model. I've been noticing certain games require partial or complete installation on the PS3 harddrive - like Orochi 3. I've also avoided buying newer PS3 marketplace games because I didnt want to fill my HDD to capacity.

they're a lot cheaper when you buy the desktop version.:D

well, they used to be cheaper!!  i looked at newegg, and it appears that hard drive shortage in Asia is really hitting the supply hard. i can actually get larger notebook drive for less than what it costs to buy a desktop version. that's crazy! at this rate the ATX computer form factor (standard desktop form factor for years) will be dead in no time!

IGN reviewd WO3 today and gave it a high 8.5. Pretty damn good.
I am not so sure I will buy the game though. Maybe if it drops in price. I am burnt out on hack and slash games. I am going to wait until there are some big changes so that the genre feels more fresh to me.

From the Destructoid review:

While it's full of silly dialog and the usual stock characters, it's interesting to note that Warriors Orochi 3 sincerely attempts to tell its own original, engaging story this time around. As characters are introduced with their own goals and plots, I'm pleased to say that Omega Force put some real effort into the writing, rather than simply having characters shout "Justice" and "Chaos" at each other for several hours (though there's plenty of that, too). It's not an award-winning narrative that will change lives, but the story is quite unique and fun this time around, which deserves a pat on the head. Jim Sterling

Especially liked the comment about them shouting Justice and Chaos at each other for several hours!

Another quote from same article:

Warriors Orochi 3 is quite possibly my favorite Warriors game of the series. It's stuffed to the gills with content, featuring enough characters, stages, and unlockables to keep the hardcore fan enthralled for months. It boasts a huge soundtrack featuring original and ****c tunes, crossover shamelessness that's sure to raise a smile, and bonus features that haven't been seen in the series before. All that, and it's just damn awesome to see Ryu kicking ass in medieval China, or Oda Nobunaga doing his thing on a beach littered with colorful umbrellas and balloons.

Jim Sterling

they're also calling for classic movesets in DLC to deal with cloned characters from DW7. perhaps some old-skool DW4/5 movesets for example! love to see Ma Chao DW4/5 and Yue Ying DW4/5  movesets come back!!!

IT IS! I mean, it's OROCHI! Not a Dynasty Warriors brand new sequel, or a Samurai Warriors sequel too, it's not even a new formula like Trinity Souls or BladeStorm, it's a crossover!

I knowww, buying it very soon, still haven't completed my 100 to remix!

Just hope they'll keep up the momentum, great writing, a much enhanced traditional gameplay with more battling feel... killing soldiers should stop feeling like cutting grass, even though that can already be fixed if set on Chaos.

I can pretty much guarantee anyone here will not regret buying it (unless they CANNOT stand the Japanese voice actors).

well, that doesn't mean i won't play it. i just wish Koei would take a few suggestions and make the XL really give us something truly XL.

It's just an expansion, Jim Sterling called the last XL an exposure of a "shady business" by KOEI. :P Haha, I love that dude.

yeah, i agree. it wouldn't be that hard to add a feature that let you play through all the mosous with any character you want without it feeling like free mode and booting you back to the stage select menu every time you complete a level.

That much is true, but I can't honestly see the point of that. You can still select a character and marathon stages in XL.

true, but it break immersion when the game kicks you back to the stage selection screen. remember, after each battle there are usually cut scenes that then bleed into the next stage. you lose that when you're in a "Free Mode" type gameplay.

Having not bought the game, I concur with your statement.

Just a point of reference, I've played a couple Dynasty Warriors games through the years and just recently finished DW7. I bought WO3 since I was still hungry for more hack and slash. This game should keep me full for a while! It's fantastic!!! There's so much to do and so many characters to use. It took a little bit to get used Japanese voices since I would normally keep my eyes on the battlefield and map and my ears on the battle instructions. But its fine. I actually really like it now. It seems more appropriate in some way. It would be really nice to have both language options. I would usually laugh at the banter between the generals. In DW7, lost a battle once because I was laughing so hard. Zhang Fei says "I've been looking forward to this!".. Lu Bu replies "What? A quick death?"
