By broader, I mean Nintendo's new lineup of games that are meant to "expand the market" and reach new audiences. ie. Brain Age, Wii Sports, etc.

As gamers, we tend to have a need for the more hardcore games, games that have depth and ultimately have a lot of value to them. These games, however, aren't designed to be that way, but instead are designed to be simple, affordable, and enjoyable. As a gamer though, do you have any interest in these games at all? Have you bought any of them? (Excluding Wii Sports)

If you don't, are you at all bothered by the amount of attention Nintendo is focusing on these kinds of games?

Not so much of an interest really ...

I, like most people here, like mostly the hardcore games such as Zelda, Star Fox, Counter Strike, Zelda, Rainbow Six, Metal Gear and Zelda. But every now and then, I do play some casual (or, broader games like you call them) games such as Tetris and Lumines (PSP).

I think these games could be good sometimes to break off from the habit of playing hardcore games, but the fun isn't gonna stay that long.

I wouldn't really call either of those games part of the broader game selection. They are somewhat more mainstream and have some likeness to casual games, but I still would classify them as true games.

As for the topic, I think these so called broader games are a good idea if used in moderation. They help entice people to try gaming who would otherwise not. But at the same time I think Nintendo is taking this the wrong way. True games should come first. Nintendo seems to be focusing almost too much on broader games, especially with the rumors of Nintendo ditching Project Hammer for a more casual game.

I have to say I take a interest in these games. Sometimes I will sit down and play a game like Rayman or Warioware. But when it comes down to it. I would take Halo or Zelda over them anyday.

I do have interest in like Brain Age, but I don't have a DS. I'll take note on the broader games, but I have to have those true hardcore games like MArio, Zelda, and Star Fox. I usually buy these games first before buying broader games. However, i did just try Wario Ware and Elebits from Blockbuster and they were fun. I do think that Nintendo is taking interest in those broader games recently to catch new gamers. I do have a big collection of sports games such as baseball, football, and soccer. I'm not sure if you would classify these games as 'broad games.' Overall, I take note on these 'broad games' and to see if they are worth of interest. But I do enjoy those hardcore games.

While the "broader" games can be enjoyable for a little while, they're really only enjoyable for that long. After a few hours, they get boring, and I lose interest in them. "Games" have depth, they have substance, they have lasting interest. I might play one as a demo, maybe, if it is free, but I wouldn't ever spend my money on these simple, low substance titles that are appearing more and more on the DS and Wii.

I pay good money for my games, and I expect to get a game in return.

What more can I say? I prefer hard-core titles, but I don't mind playing this stuff every once in a while. But not for, as almost everyone said.

I definitely think alternative games (Brain Age, Clubhouse Games, Tetris, etc) make for a nice addition to any gaming collection.

Yeah Clubhouse Games is awesome. Plus, with the addition of online play the game could become much more interesting and the replay value would be higher (just like with CB).
