Do you think Wii will be as successful as the DS?

You would think so, considering they both seem to be based on the same thing, innovation.  However, brand I think was a big factor of the DS success.  For the past twenty years the only successful handhelds have been from Nintendo, and even though the DS is not a gameboy it still had the Nintendo presence.  I think ultimately that will help the PS3 win the system war, but the wii will kind of mimic the PSP in terms of sales.  It will sell very well, but not quite come close enough to the sales of its competitor

it could be, but it depends on how they keep the momentum going - personally i see it as dying off right now. i mean sure keep release date and price under wraps for a bit, but right now - i'm just tired of it. keep WiFi details from major pubs until next year?? i think that is a mis-step.

you can only tease people for so long before they start getting their action somewhere else.

*Me holding a battle damaged, dyeing Wii*

Wii: I'm sorry I...have...*cough*failed you...*Power light goes out*

Me: NO!!!!!!

PS3: Bwa ha ha you now belong to me!!!

Me: The inhumanit...wait...what about the 360?

PS3: Oh he overheated in the middle of the battle remember.

*look over and the smoldering remains of a 360*

Me: Oh yeah...the inhumanity! I don't want to pay $600 for a console!

PS3: Too bad open your wallet!

Me: No!!!

It will come down to attracting people to the gaming market. At worst, most Wii owners will be new gamers who have been impressed with the simplicity of the controls or have decided that they can beat their children/friends at tennis. At best, the Wii will become just as widespread as the original Gameboy, perhaps even going beyond that. It's still entirely possible for the Wii to finish in '3rd place' in the next generation, but there isn't a crab's chance in Genji that the Wii will bring Nintendo down. Considering its popularity at E3, the Wii should easily match or exceed the DS' sales.

BTW, cheers for the union invite Rev ^^

Yo I think it all matters on how much the Ps3 games will sell for.  Their price.  I heard its going to be over 60 and if this is true no one will buy it.  I also heard their going to be 80 and who would want to pay for an $80 game.

X360 games cost the equivalent of $85 (£45) over here. We would pay that much for a game. N64 games went for $95 (£50) on release, an X360 core system will cost you $379 (£200, but it used to be £300), and while the PS3's $599 pricetag should work out at £316 here, it will cost £425 instead ($805!!!!).

[/rant] I wish the shipping taxes for the UK weren't so high. The Wii will probably cost £150 ($303) at launch.

Iwata said publicly that "He couldnt imagine a first party game being more than $49.99"....and since wii games are cheaper to develop for im sure 3rd parties will sue that pricing too.

I think it will be more sucsessful because the ps3 will not go anywhere the only trouble it will have is the 360.

/ I agree, the PS3 is turning off alot of gamers because of the price for development. And besides that the 360 has a huge head start over the Wii.

hey

I don't think it will sell that much after all handhelds sell like butter look at the GBA, but I definitely foresee an improvement in market share and a possible step up in the console race. I mean Sony are making more mistakes than possibly imaginable, however Microsoft is taking no prisoners and is going all out with it eye on first place, quite frankly speaking the 360 is one hell of a machine and if the Wii can improve that much then it is possible for Sony to fall to 3rd. That said the Wii can't possibly place 1st because the video game market is dominated by people whom live on the edge of technology and in that sense the Wii is trailing big with the exception of the VC service which has huge potential and will play a pivotal role in appealing to older generation , I mean when you think about it Nintendo had a good plan with bringing new player, but you can't really expect these players to really jump on the video game band wagon and purchase games regularly like the tech freaks (myself included) of Sony and Microsoft whom buy games from retailers and online market places almost weekly. Don’t get me wrong I hope Nintendo does amazing; after all I have yet to get this excited about a new Nintendo product in a long time.

Plucky07 was talking about the PS3 game price not the Wii's.

I reckon this battle is going to be close and I wouldn't be surprised with each console having just about the same market share.  The PS3's price has blown this "console war" wide open.

I heard somthing about DS, like they had never seen so many different people buying a handheld console before.
I think that will happen with Wii too.

I think the Wii will be even more popular.

Or so it would seem.
