Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Not Playable at E3

July 3, 2007 - Nintendo of America said on Monday that its hotly anticipated new Wii fighter, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, will not be playable at the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2007. According to representatives for the subsidiary contacted by IGN, Nintendo has chosen not to display the game in playable form because it has a wealth of other products to show, including some surprises. This, however, does not mean that a formally playable Brawl will not be unveiled in the near future - perhaps shortly after E3 - at a separate event.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl was originally set to release at Wii launch, but was delayed to 2007 in order to give the team working on it more development time. The game features a huge cast of mascot fighters, a great many recognizable background stages and more musical compositions from famous videogame composers than any other videogame in existence. In addition, gamers will be able to choose their favorite fighter and battle online against friends.

Although Brawl will not be playable by E3 attendees, that does not mean the game will not be on display, or, for that matter, demoed by Nintendo representatives.

Furthermore, reps for the company said that the decision to hold off on unveiling Smash in playable form at E3 had nothing to do with the progress or quality of the game. "I wouldn't read anything into this as far as release date. It's still 2007," said a spokesperson for Nintendo.

Well from what I read in EGM, they said that SSBB is ready right now to come out. They said that if they still did, they'd sell millions of copies. So I don't understand why they wouldn't even have a playable demo at E3, however, it does make sence that they wouldn't because of more Characters, Items, and Surprise they still have to reveal. And now they added in this article that SSBB will be playable online - Wifi!

I'll hold my breath on the online confirmation until I hear the words from Nintendo representatives themselves.

If I was to attend E3, I would have said that it saddens me. Not because I wanted to try it, but because there is no 'people magnet' anymore, or at least not such a big one. Those things come in handy for people who only come for the 'suprise games', and don't want to stay in line for such a long time, as everyone would be at the Brawl stand:lol:

Same here REV. I do like that idea of being surprised when playing games. I am also looking forward to hearing the music that the composers came up with.

If it's not Wifi it's really no big deal because it says with friends ... That means you can only battle with your friends who have Wii and Online Connection. I only have one and I usually just go over his house every weekend.

Hm. I really can't beleive that. Why would they not make it playable at E3 when its one of their biggest games!

Unless they are hiding something....

Well, considering how E3 has been scaled down, demos are much less important since there aren't going to be nearly as many people to try out the games as there were in previous years. Unfortunately, it doesn't allow the people who are trying it out to let the public know how good the game has come along. :P

Any way you look at it, it's a disappointment. However, the game itself shouldn't be TOO far away, so if we're patient we'll be that much happier when it does come out. ;)

That is a good point about E3 being smaller. Each company is only going to present the core of their stuff. Downed scaled E3= less demos and show floor.

Well, I'm kind of thinking that, as bededog said before, they don't really need to show off a demo or really even have Super Smash Bros. have much of a presence at the show because they have updates on the game EVERY single week day. Besides, even if there isn't a demo, it doesn't matter much to us. If they show a trailer with gameplay then it isn't any different really, its not like we get to play the demos.

You definitely have a point there, but the difference between a demo and a trailer is that when they have a demo, people such as the staff of Gamespot can play them and give us their opinions and feedback at how controls work, etc.

It's more hand-on, and we have a better understanding of what the game is going to be like rather than just having a look at how the gameplay works.

I agree with both of you's. I think that since E3 has been toned down that you won't see the public there playing them so there's no point. And as you said REVfreak, even if they show some updates on the gameand show some gameplay or even alittle match that it's better than a demo because we actually get to see it live at E3. We actually get see it, and like they did late year with Wii Sports with a contest winner (I highly doubt this but,) they many even play the demo to demistrate to people instead of having it playable to guests. But I'm really looking forward to the show's reveals about this game.

As long as they at least put it in showcase, it's fine with me. I just want to see a real match of SSBB.

What do you mean "Showcase?" But yea, that's what I getting at. I was saying that I hope they showed like alittle match of SSBB or even played it to demistrate.

This is a disappointment to all those going to E3.  However, it really does not directly affect me since I am not even going to E3 in the first place.  Haha.  :)  But, as long as they reveal some information and some new stuff at E3, I will be satisfied.

By showcase he means a demonstration, like you mentioned with Wii Sports, and like they did with Red Steel and Zelda last year.
