Uhh... personally, i do like Vaan a lot, much more than Tidus and anyone else.

But, truly, what did he do in FFXII for me to be impressed by him that much.

I'd realize, he doesn't play a main part in the story, but there are so many side quests, like the "My Hero" side-event with Jovial the Seeq, that revolves around Vaan. It's heartwarming at one end. But on the other hand, Vaan isn't really needed in the main storyline?

'This game can make it without Vaan'  Is that a plausible statement?

He's sorta needed. He acts as the confidant for the other characters to explain every thing to. Even Penelo has to tell Vaan everything. But if he wasnt there the rest of the characters would be telling each other stuff they already know. And that allways seems strange when its done in movies or tv.

ya he has a point. think of vaan as yourself kind of. the other charecters are telling you whats going on in the story and the important events. Without van like joeadonis1 said it would sound funny if they are telling themselves things they already know. plus vaan really isnt needed how shall i say this fills out the game in a way. withouit him the game would be lacking somthing other than another member of the party.

I have no idea how Vaan fits into the story, but its basically like FF6 a bit I gather from what I have read. The character you start out with (after Terra) is Locke, and he seems like the leader type character, but he isn't really needed, and this is shown by the fact you don't need him to finish the game, hell you don't even need Terra to finish the game. The games main lead changes half way through to another character.

I like Vaan, but he has no point to be in the game except to jump in when they need to act (destroy the crystal n' stuff). He's mostly a comic foil and the dumb one of the groupand since you dont know anything they tell him; the main character.

I don't like the whole cast to be honest with you I feel they're less developed than any other cast in ff games.

I think Balthier would have made a much more fun main... It seems like the young, rash, and stupid kid makes for a leader in a lot of similar games and such, truthfully i tire of it sometimes. We need another cloud gosh dangit, someone super pimp who can handle himself. Oh and Locke could have carried the story in 6, he was pretty sweet... but i wasnt sad when the story moves toward sabin and edgar since they were both pretty pimp too. Anyhow, I didnt mind Vaan... he was some comic relief every now and then, and he took charge when needed, so no worries.

rather than saying they're less developed, i think i'd say there are plenty of areas for us to discover ourselves outside the main story. For example, you know more about Vaan's brother and himself through some side quests. It's definitely better this way, than having the story revolving around them.

To tell the truth the story really revolves around Ashe, I mean Vaan is just that young, rash, unlearned character. I dont mind him at all but at the same time you can go on without Him. He isn't a natural leader like Cloud, Squall, Tidus, Zidane, Hes more like an addition, he is the Yuffie of FFXII.
