Okey so...I just got into the FF series and so far ive played FFVII and FFVIII (half-way through it) and ive heard that FFIX has a different battle system..i mean characters are divided into magical and non-magical...Im a big fan of the way things are now with each character being able to have magic and also have a strong attack and hp. So, seing as I dont want my characters to be split up into magical and non magical, should i get FFIX? I dont want to be dissapointed by it and ruin the FF experience. Also ive played a bit FFIV and hated the part when they made me team up with those magical twins, cuz they always died on me.
FFIX's system are similar to those old school FF such as IV. However, i think it is worth to play because it has a good story line and playing it was alot of fun. You shouldn't miss it. They won't die that easy compare to the twins in IV, don't worry :)
FFIX is a really good RPG. I love it. The characters learn abilities through weapons, armor, and accessories. There are main magic users: Garnet (Dagger), Eiko, Vivi, and maybe Quina. The brutes are Zidane, Steiner, Armarant, and Freya. It is a great game, and you shouldn't pass it up.

Ok, everyone here is pretty much going to tell you it is a good game and you should try it. That is more or less a given, and I won't say they are wrong, but you didn't exactly want peoples opinion on the game, you wanted thier opinion as to whether or not you should try it, based on you previous experiences, and the experience that you have been told FFIX is, so....FFIX is definitely an FF where characters kind of have built in classes, that you can't change and provide inheirant strength and weaknesses, so that you do have certain characters that can only use magic and therefore do the best damage by using it, and tend to be somewhat weaker in defense and hp than the strong physical attackers. However, FFIX tends to be more balanced in this system, still offering plenty of strength, hp, and defense all around so that these characters are not entirely crippled because of thier class. Also, the game works around these classes much better than some of the early FFs, meaning that they will often enough actually have advantages in battle because of their magic attack and defense stats. While it is true that the systems in FFVII, and VIII allow you to kind of create the characters yourself, FFIX still does a great job of making all the characters fair, balanced and worth using, and not too weak or worthless like Palom and Porom from FFIV.
