So that it doesn't get the "M"(mature) rating?

or

So that everything remains a "Fantasy"?

[ Blood as in "real-time" blood, not blood which can only be seen in the pre-rendered FMVs, like FFVIII's opening movie. "Real-time" blood, to me, would mean the blood that can be animated during random battles, and other in-game events. ]

And, what really amazed me is, there is absolutely NO blood, NONE AT ALL, in Dirge of Cerberus. And, the most recent movie, Advent Children, besides the scene where Cloud gets a [small, little] cut on his forehead [during the first fighting scene], the cut disappeared as soon as the next scene triggered.

Why? Why does this persist? What is Final Fantasy trying to tell us? [if there is something] Unless, it's pure laziness on the production team's part to create extra color...

Lol, kinda glad there isn't too much blood. Yeah it has a lot to do with the ratings. If FFVII was a bloodgore some of us might not have been able to play it. I only wished Castelvania learn from this, the common enemies which are zombies bleeds out literally gallons of blood just from a normal attack.

At the start of FF8 There was a small amout of blood when Squall was cut. But it was done in such a way it seems to me like there is a lot more than there really is. Which make it more intense when he gos in for the "kill" against Sifer.

But the scene where Cloud gets shot in the face with no ill affects, That just seems cartoonish. So Id like a small amount of blood just to keep the emotion going in certain parts.

Take a look at the back of your Final Fantasy X case. There is quite a bit of blood in that game. It is all so subtle, that you have to look for it or you will never see it

Probably so that it wasn't rated "M."  If it was rated M the game wouldn't be for such broad ages.  It would be limited to 17+ unless your parents or someone older got it for you.

I think it is usually included when it needs to be, but ocessive amounts of blood are not really what final fantasy series are about. Besides, if a dude can get shot repeatdly in 1000s of random encounters ( Im looking right at you ff8!) and still live..then I suppose lack of blood is ok with me.

Also agree with the ratings, it would be a lot higer if there were blood in every single encounter.

Square Enix doesn't want to get that too serious about their RPGs. They just want to share us their fantastic stories in their mind without beeing too sadistic about it. The very same that they are doing in Kingdom Hearts, they are doing whatever they can to prevent from having a "T" (Teen) rating in their Kingdom Hearts series

I think its bassicly for the rating, sure FF appeals for 18+ ppl, but it also attracts young ones 12-17 and with the M rating it could be difficutl for many fans to play them.

I am not so sure blood alone effects rating like you all think it does. Take Oblivion for example. It is rated T forViolence, Blood, Gore, Language, Sexual Themes and Use of Alcohol. FF could add blood throughout the entire game and it would probably avoid the M rating

I hadn't noticed that much, but this is one of the things that makes FF such a great series. That is what keeps it on the level with the Disney channel and not on the level with the Texas Chainsaw murders or NIghtmare on Elm Street. We have too much gratuituous Blood, Gore, and Guts in movies and games as it is and don't think any more is necessary.:)

Well, FF is not a action game. It's an rpg. And not many rpg have blood in it do they? And FF also have this charm, and with blood i think that charm would go away...

It would be like blood in Xenosaga or Manga. It'd just be out of place and unecessary.

Morrowind, Oblivion, Diablo, Diablo 2, Temple of Elemental Evil, Doom RPG, Star Ocean: Till the End of Time, FINAL FANTASY X! (I repeat. Read the rating label on the box. It has blood), It's not listed on the box, but I know Sephiroth bleeds in FFVII and Kuja bleeds in FFIX. I THINK Squall bleeds in FFVIII. Parasite Eve, Parasite Eve 2, Xenogears, Persona 2, Shadow Hearts 1 and 2. For those of you that consider dungeon crawly type games to be RPGs, Okami. For those that consider modern Castlevania games to be side scrolling RPGs (which is basically what they are), Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Castlevania: Dawn of Souls.

That's just naming a few RPGs I know have blood

There is minimal blood and so little as to be hardly noticable. I've got and love the Shadow Hearts games almost as much as Final Fantasy and you won't see enough blood to worry about same as FF VII and VIII.

You have to look for the blood in FFX. IT is hard to notice, but there is quite a bit more than people think

Anyway, my point is that putting blood in Final Fantasy or in RPGs for that matter is nothing new. It has happened before, so it would nto be out of character if it happened again

I believe the rest of us are noting that there is so little blood that it might as well not be there at all and having enough blood to become noteworthy detracts from the genre. It simply isn't either needed or desirable in an RPG, what little there is could easily be done without as in Xenosaga.

Correction. Oblivion is rated M. The ESRB upgraded it, in May, two months after it was released.

Now back to the topic at hand. Judging from everyone's response, I think I can safely say that no one has any real desire for more blood to be implemented in Final Fantasy games. Anyone that has a knacking for blood and gore, would choose a more appropiate game to get thier fix(God of War, Mortal Kombat, etc...). Any excessive amounts of blood placed within a Final Fantasy game would not only alienate some fans but would also make it arkward, as the scenes of the game usually do not demand much blood on sight.

Final Fantasy is designed from the ground up to not reveal anything more than trace amounts of blood. This is a good thing for all us, as we need not worry about scenes getting edited just to get the desired T rating(as was the case for Xenosaga Episode III). The directors do an excellent job in portraying all the pain, suffering, and sorrow without the show of blood, and in my book, that is true skill.

So does Final Fantasy need blood? Well, not much, at least. In a stretched analogy, it's similar to how Tekken shows no blood yet it still gives the impression that the moves really hurt. Final Fantasy does what it does best, and it delivers all of that without any blood.

The copy of Oblivion that I have was rated T. It would have stayed rated T if someone hadn't made a nude mod for it.

Well what can i say i love games that are full of battle, action and blood usually. But on the Final Fantasy case i would have to agree that blood is unecessary. I think it is already there but blood in the FMV's would be kinda cool so the vids are even more realistic. Besides that it isnt really a must have or i guess as many have said it just would not have the final fantasy feel to it, I'd still buy it though. O and Dirge of Cerberus was a complete mistake there should have definately been blood in it it seems just like a lost soul without it. Another thing that pains me is that you dont even have real freedom of movement you are kinda like forced to complete the levels in one way. I just think they rushed it wayy too quick and failed miserably. If they were trying to compare to devil may cry they failed cause NO action game can compare to the DMC Series!!!
