I would not say that FFVII is better than FFVIII, but I will not say the contrary either. Just that, FFVIII's battle system with a crazily difficult levelling with monsters thingy just makes me feel tired of it. Story, FFVII, definitely. What else?? If FFVIII did have a better story, there would have been a Compilation of Final Fantasy VIII

I like both games, for different reasons. 7 had materia which I enjoyed, outstanding music score, interesting characters/plot. 8 on the other hand had much better graphics, more complex story plot, and a decent music score. I hated the fact that 7 seemed like it was halfway done in some regards, with dialouge and weird incompletions in areas, and there was some underdevelopment with the characters; and 8, I hated drawing, 100% because I could never get myself to actually use the magic, for whatever reason, so I end up with a party full of summoner/fighters, and the game moved slow for me as well for some reason, not sure why. Plus I ended up yelling a squall to just "Shut-up already!" lawlz

Well, it's definitely difficult to say which one is actually superior to the other. Either one has thier respective strenghts and weaknesses. However, it's definitely for certain that FF7 is the most popular and by far the most influential.

Both had a good storyline, but I think FFVII had the better storyline and the way it was played out or executed was excellent. I guess that's why I prefer FFVII over FFVIII. Even though FVIII had better graphics, FFVII had materia, you had to master that materia, I don't know but I prefer FFVII as well.

FFVII has Cloud, Sephiroth and Tifa. Nuff said.

FFVIII has the Junction System and Squall. Nuff said there too.

Both are good FF games, but FFVII is supirior in many ways, better characters... better villians (not only sephiroth but the turks, rufus, etc, FFVIII had... Seifer and Ultimecia?). The story of FFVII was much better too, FFVIII's was too weird, i mean that thing where you have to go to the future came out of nowhere... The materias were very cool too, and the junction sistem wasnt, i mean since when is magic an item?!

So yeah FFVII is better than FFVIII, but that doesnt make FFVIII a bad game, it had outstanding graphics (for its time, just like FFVII), a complex story (not the best, but not the worst), and it had good characters.

i fail to see where you got the idea that magic was passed off as an item in FF8. the junction system IMO was far better than materia

Only thing i had against VIII was that I felt like magic was useless in combat. Other than that, good plot, good side quests and music score. But i got chills from VII.

in my OPINION, FVII was much better firstly the battle system, characters and world was more immersive

The battle style was Good-Old-TB which in my opinion is the way all RPGs should be :P

Plus the junction system was right @#&$ing gay along with the fact that i beat the game entirely upon the use of my summons in FFVIII

Story wise again its for FFVII athough i do say that minus the whole dimension warp thing and the messed up romance in the story FVIII was one of the best for story

FFVII has become mainstream because of all these traits, some reject it simply becuase of its popularity, however for most RPG gamers who can get past the fan base of this game....it is by far the best

FFVII side quests and extras like WOW so many...

I really like hot dogs, thats another reason to admire Zell and FF VIII.:P . The games are so darn good in so many ways I had to resort to that as a tie breaker. :|
