Forgotten Beneath the Ice
Chapter 1, Part 1, Section 1: The Wayward Drifter
The bleak morning sky thunders over the Seireitei. The quiet walls echo the laziness inside. Bitter curses are thrown up to the sky, its rumbling answer thrown back in retort. Few are racing here and there from whatever tasks they've just finished. Little excitement would be expected today. What poor souls would be caught outside in the arriving storm?
The roads are sparsely traveled, many taking shelter at nearby buildings. Those still walking show no regard of the drops that trickle down from above. One such traveler arrives at the West Gate, guided onward by a black butterfly. Hooded with a black cloak, the figure attracts little attention. They hold their gloved hand out and the insect perches on it.
"Thank you, my little friend." The voice is a man's, young and smooth. "Now be along and find shelter. I believe you'll be in a pickle if it starts pouring." As if responding, the butterfly flits away over the walls and into the Seireitei. The stranger continues to the gate, and is halted by a booming voice.
"Who goes there?" One of the huge, burly sentinels steps into the light drizzle. He looks at the smaller man with hawk eyes. A large blade rests against the wall behind him. "What brings you to the Seireitei?"
The figure stops and meets the sentinel's gaze. His hood, once hiding his face, falls away to reveal a black tangle of hair. Only his mouth and chin are visible, the rest is buried under dark bangs. A blade is strapped across his back with a backpack. "This is the Seireitei? Oh! So it was a good idea to follow the butterfly. That's wonderful."
The sentinel crosses his arms impatiently, "So what's your business here?" He obviously wants to get out of the rain before it gets worse.
"Sorry to bother you, but may I come inside?" His voice is hopeful. "I've been looking for this place for awhile."
The large sentry looks down imperiously, "Not a chance. Only Shinigami are allowed inside. Get lost."
The man looks at the road behind him. His voice is nervous, "Please? If not inside, then can I just wait under the overhang until it clears up?"
Shaking his head, the sentinel leads the smaller guy to the side. "I'm gonna have to hold onto your sword until you leave."
The stranger stops, looking at the hilt of his blade. "Do you mean Shouhi? Why do you have to take it?" His voice is curious and reprehensive.
"You mean you're a Soul Reaper?! For crying out loud, why didn't you say so?!" The sentry opens the gate. He looks at the darkening sky, "Get inside, fool! Quickly, before I beat some sense into you for wasting my time!"
The man bows his head, "Thank you, sir. I'm Mikazuki by the way. Mikazuki Inoyaiba."
The sentinel grumbles, "Your welcome, Mikazuki. I'm Jidongo. Now would you be so kind as to get moving?"
Mikazuki nods and ducks inside. He sprints along the path, and stops, noticing the butterfly. "Oh hello again, my friend. Were you waiting for me?" He holds out his palm and the creature lands on it. "Can you show me to someone nearby who can help me out?" The butterfly takes off and flutters away. Mikazuki looks up, then at the insect. "Would like some shelter? I don't think you'd fly so well with wet wings."
He grabs the hilt of his sword, "Wake up, Shouhi."
A grumpy whisper responds. What is going on? Are we there? Silence follows, then the voice calls again. So we are there. It took you long enough, Mikazuki. I almost thought that we were getting nowhere following that butterfly.
Mikazuki nods, "Be nice, Shouhi. Anyways, our friend needs to be dry if it'll help us." Shouhi whispers again and a patch of darkness forms over the butterfly. Mikazuki turns back to the insect, "Okay now, lead the way please." The butterfly flits away and he follows it.
The view from the window is dreary at the Squad 3 barracks. A young Shinigami sits staring into the torrent. She wears a shiori, her dark hair falling on and past her shoulders. Another Soul Reaper approaches her. He is blond, wearing a badge that signifies him as a Lieutenant.
"C'mon, Bella. You can't just sit around and mope." His voice is light but serious.
Bella turns away from the window. "What are we supposed to do on a rainy day, Lt. Kira?"
Kira shakes his head, "Read, write, I don't know. Just do something productive."
Bella pouts and turns away from him as he walks away. Izuru's edgy today. You'd think the Lieutenant would be one who enjoys the rain. She begins to reach for a book from her scant selection when a butterfly wanders in. She looks at it quizzically. A Hell Butterfly. It's quite large, too. What is it doing here? A man's voice calls from outside.
"Hello? Is anyone home?" A man wanders in, dressed in black and drenched from head to foot. He wears a zanpakuto and satchel on his back. "Could someone help me out? I don't want to be a bother, but the door was open and there was no other place to go. The wind was beginning to pick up, too." His face is hidden in his hood.
Bella looks at him oddly. Is he a Soul Reaper? Where's his shiori? She shrugs, and then approaches him. "Hello. Welcome to the Squad 3 barracks. I'm Bella."
The man takes his backpack and cloak off, and sets them to the side. Underneath he wears a coat, unbuttoned to reveal a black shirt. His shaggy hair is pitch-black and his bangs cover most of his face. "Thank you, Bella. My name's Mikazuki." He looks at the butterfly on the table. "I see you've already met my little friend." The butterfly flits to him and lands on his outstretched hand.
Bella offers him a seat, and Mikazuki pulls out a bottle with some light brown liquid in it. He takes a swig from the bottle, then sits down. Bella asks probingly, "So what are you doing here, Mikazuki? Did you get lost?"
Mikazuki gazes out the window. The Hell Butterfly flits and perches on his shoulder. "To the first question: I'm searching for answers. That's why I came here." He indicates the insect, "This little guy led me here from the World of the Living." He pauses, and then continues on. "To the second question: Yes and no. I couldn't find another place that was open. The butterfly led me here because this place was the closest. I'd guess that it knows the Seireitei better than me."
Bella raises an eyebrow.. This guy is weird. He isn't even wearing a shiori. And I can't even tell if he's looking at me. She continues, "What squad do you belong to? I could help you find it and sort this out."
Mikazuki shrugs, "To tell the truth: I couldn't possibly know. I think this is my first time here but I get the feeling that I've been here before." He takes another drink from the flask. "And thanks for the offer. I could use as much help as I can get to figure this all out."
Bella sighs, "Well, what do you think we should do?" Oh great. I must have won the lottery with this one. Well, are you happy now, Kira? I've found something to do.
Mikazuki shakes his head solemnly. With a searching expression on his face, he takes another sip. A lightly noxious scent drifts across the table. Bella cringes in disdain. What the heck is that? How can he drink that and not be sick? Mikazuki sees her expression, and his mouth curves upward at the corners.
"It's herbal tea. It's very healthy for you." He looks at Bella humorously. "This is my favorite kind. Do you want some?"
The words just fall from her lips, "Oh no!" She falters nervously. "I-I mean, no thank you."
"Don't worry. I wouldn't blame you." Mikazuki laughs apologetically, "It does smell awful. Although it tastes much better than expected once you get past the odor."
An irritated voice calls out, "What is that horrible smell?" Bella and Mikazuki turn towards the source. Kira stands in a doorway, covering his nose with his hand. He looks from Bella to Mikazuki, and then to the drink on the table. "This is...new. What pleasure is this?"
"Hello, Lieutenant Kira." She smiles nervously. "This is Mikazuki. He was caught out in the rain and he can't find his squad."
Lieutenant Kira looks at Mikazuki. "Take a look at the squad rosters. It should list what squad you are in if your name is in there." He looks at Bella and smirks grimly, "Go with him and help him out. I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself." Kira sniffs in disgust, and then turns around and walks upstairs.
"Well isn't he a warm patch of sunshine?" Mikazuki smiles shyly as he chuckles. He calms down and takes another drink from his bottle. "Anyways, if we're going to be searching some roster, I'd suggest we wait for the rain to stop." He yawns and stretches, and then finishes his drink. He retrieves his damp clothes and pack. "Is there a vacant room here I can rest in until then?"
Bella nods and leads Mikazuki upstairs. They walk down the corridor until Bella stops them at a door. She opens the door and Mikazuki walks inside. It's plain and mostly unadorned, with a bed, desk, chair and a small table. Mikazuki sets his things down and turns to Bella. "Thank you for your help. I can't wait for the rain to stop."
Bella laughs, "You're welcome and don't hesitate to get a good rest. This storm looks blacker than Lieutenant Kira's bad attitude, so we should be good for a while." Which means I have nothing to do again. That's just perfect. At least he's put that foul tea away. She leaves the room and begins to close the door behind her. The Hell Butterfly slips through the door and Bella shakes her head. . That thing gives me the creeps. She shrugs and dismisses the thought from her mind. Now that I think about it, I'm going to get some rest, too. She continues down the corridor to her own room.
Mikazuki rummages through his backpack and pulls out a device. It seems to be some hand-held computer. "So let's see if I can get a signal here." He fiddles with the device, and it buzzes slightly. An electronic voice calls out, "Memory recovery at five percent." Mikazuki tosses the machine back into the bag. "Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know. That's what you say every time." He lies down on the bed and slowly falls into a deep sleep. The rain outside continues to pour violently by the time he's lost in his subconscious.
The Hell Butterfly rests on the windowsill. It adjusts its wings slightly, and a white sheen flashes and disappears. The display, still on, flashes a loading screen. The voice calls again, "Memory recovery at five-point-zero-five percent. Memory recovery at five-point-one percent. Memory recovery at five-point-one-five percent." The device continues on through the night. Mikazuki stirs restlessly in his sleep, muttering incoherently.. The Hell Butterfly appears to observe his odd behavior, everything else quiet and undisturbed.

Entry Two:
Once day Jing was walking around outside and saw chick from sqaud 6, and checking out while he was checking them out sfkm2 busted jing and asked him what he is doing? So jing said buzz off and sfkm2 flipped out and started to attack him, Jing was glad that he finally found something to do and sfkm2 use ban-kai on him but some one just froze his ban-kai out of blue and sfkm2 look up.. it was OWEN! he standing there and saying you stole my last cookie **** while that happened.. Old man was walking in his room and noticed there none of hooker and he start flipped out and blew up the SS... who know what happning next..
