I know you are thinking "There all pretty similar", but when you think about it, they aren't.

Personally, i was just so into the OOT story when i first played it. But i'd say Wind Waker and Twilight Princess also had great stories.

What do you think?

I think Majora's Mask is the best Story of all. It is pretty much the darkest story, but still is more detailed and interesting than most of the other stories. And it is a story that will make you want to stop up and think. It is just impossible to forget about it and there is a lot of questions that will haunt you down and which you will have trouble with. It is somewhat mystyrius, and that is a plus. On top of that, there is a lot of storys attached to the side quest. For instance there is a story of how the ranch is attacked nby ghost and you have to save everybody. There is also a touching love story. I don't remember their names, but they get together two minutes before oblivion to get married. It is so much story and it is good, so I would definatly say Majora's Mask.

wa, I could agree with you more.

Majora's Mask blows the other games out of the water. (Admittedly that's not much of an achievement)

Majora's Mask involved a suspenseful feeling of the world, the moon constantly getting closer, which added weight to the progressively dismal townsfolks, on the third day the town is getting empty, While you try and stop the Skull Kid, only to fail again and again, constantly resetting time.

When you finally bring together the Four Gaints, it's epic how they stop the moon from crushing the town right before your eyes. All the while, the many characters are not just stuck in stationary positions, but rather going about their day to day duties but becoming increasingly aware of the impending doom above them. Anju and Kafei's struggle with love exchanging their vows and then waiting for the world to end; The Swordmaster breaking down and showing his human side; the Romani sisters and Anju's Grandmother huddling in fear at Romani Ranch.

The game is full of life, the characters are not just scripted laughing all day and disappearing at night. You see the Deku Butler crying over the corpse of his son during the credits; you see Cremia grieving if you fail to stop the abduction of Romani.

It's The Empire Strikes Back of Zelda, it's deeper, more intelligent, and darker than any that came before, or since.

Well, most of the old-school Zelda games was about Zelda getting kidnapped and Link stuck to rescuing her... Right? But then again Ocarina of Time came with basically the same thing but with a more detailed gameplay: Princess Zelda got kidnapped. Link has to save her before Ganondorf rules over Hyrule and such. But here is where I agree with metroid_dragon and waZelda:

wa, I could agree with you more.

Majora's Mask blows the other games out of the water. (Admittedly that's not much of an achievement)

metroid_dragon

In short, that sums it up

Majora's Mask (even though I STILL have competed it yet  ) brings a whole new storyline in play. There's no need to resuce Princess Zelda, I mean (is she in the game?? :o) she can wait---a town is about to be DEMOLISHED!

Basically: Save Hyrule in a limit of 72 hours before you and all its occupants are crushed. Pretty cool :D One of the most unique Zelda storylines I've seen in my entire life. It's different, and at the time it was new. Thats what the people wanted, and that's what they got :D

Some of the Zelda titles, like the first ones, had way to simple stories. The stories was not more complicated than the usual Mario games. The prncess is kidnapped by a powerful bad guy and the hero, l which is actually almost a normal guy, has to save her. It is the excact same plot, just in two diferent worlds. Even some of the enemys are like the ones in super Mario. You might have run into some creatures in AoL that throws stuff at you in the excact same way as the Hammer bros. When you think of it that way, it really isn't so hard to believe that the same guy came up with the idea for both conscepts.

Overall I find the stories in Zelda games good in an epic way (especially OoT, WW and TP), like adventures are supposed to be. Most of them aren't deep, because most adventures aren't deep. Let's face it, Zelda games are adventure games. I like the stories even though they are simple and very clas.sic, so I'm not saying Majora's Mask is the only Zelda game with good story, but it is just such a diferent way of telling the story, which is really fascinating.

I do think TP is the secound best story game. I do not just mean because it has so much cut-scenes and it is such a long story, but I'm really fascinated by Midnas story. Also, I love the way Link and Midna meet and they are from so diferent worlds, but they just have to learn to respect each other and cooperate. And you learn to see the beauty of what is acctually the "dark world" of the game. In games like OoT and WW, the characters are mainly standard characters, but in TP they have more personality and soul. I guess the other games couldn't be like that, because nintendo wished to make them "E for everyone" games. TP is really a game that is better for the hardcore gamers and hardcore fans than for the casual gamers.

I believe that each Zelda game has something unique from every other one. I'd say Twilight Princess had the story, but Majoras Mask had the best mood/atmosphere, Ocarina of Time had the best characters, etc.

Hm... For a second best story game Twilight Princess could fit in there since it is different from the rest of them... I mean, it does introduce a new antagonsit who may be carried on throughout the next Zelda game

Majora's Mask had a great storyline because it gave us a nice break from having to rescue that princess. I also really liked Wind Waker's story, but Twilight Princess was my favorite. It was socool to see how stuff from OoT fit into the Twilight Princess story.

I still say OOT, especially since reading this Last night (I already posted this in a forum i made, i think it deserves a lot of attention).

http://au.gamespot.com/n64/adventure/legendofzeldaoot/show_msgs.php?topic_id=m-1-40542098&pid=197771&page=0

To put that much detail into designing a temple, with a huge back-story to each one, is amazing. (Well judging by what this guy wrote, which i believe 100%)

Nah, that won't happen

We can write classic now? Sory, I know this has nothing to do with the topic, but finally! It was so annouying to always get an error message each time you entered classic.

i'd say TP had the best way of telling the story, but i guess that doesnt count. TP has my vote for best story i guess it was the most interesting, seemed more dark to me than majora's mask, but the end was really weak. when they met gannon it was like they met some random thief on the street and he was shot down like that. it felt like he had nothing to really do with the story which kinda made me mad. it made for a weak ending, but when midna disappeared for a while at the end and it made u think she was dead....wow. good storytelling. it was amazing for not being an RPG. they should make a Zelda RPG. same pbattle system, but instead of dungeons with those puzzle they would be more like in RPG format and u would progress through a story more. Zelda is similar to an RPG, just not strong enough story and characters are a little dull.

MM, its just chokablock. No other game has had such an interesting and in depth story. Someone mentioned the atmosphere to which is also great. Nintendo should try to use this way of story telling in the next Zelda.

well they do tell good stories, but after a while, we're gonna want a new story and will be sick of the same one just told in different ways. sooner or later they're gonna have to do something different with the story. TP DID do a good job of dodging that same old story, and jazzed it up real well, but wouldnt u want to see some other villian or danger? and a new link too, like in wind waker, it wasnt the same link, just a desendant who came from an island that celebrates and worships link the hero of time. maybe they can get a new hero in, just like the hero of wind and time, they can make a new one, and a new villain. it was just a thought, if they can make such a good story and tell it in such a good way with an adventure based genre, think of what they might be able to do with an action-RPG. they might need support though, since nintendo doesnt seem to make many RPGs....lol sry bout the rant, i do it a lot, Full_metal might know this well :P

I agree with Yggdrasil, although they can dress up the same story in different ways, and customize it with a few new bad guys, for the most part you won't experience any deep storyline. No political intrigue, no arch-enemy that has a story deeper than "I want to destroy the world, Lolz". I would like to see Link caught up in the middle of a war and a regicide plot. That would be an interesting change.

Are you saying there was not a new Link in TP? I mean, in which game have we seen him before. OoT Link was a Hylian boy raised by kokiris. TP Link was a farmer growing up in Ordon Village, with a pierced ear (Which was kind of a shock to see actually, I mean, the Zelda games are traditionally set long back in history).

Twilight Princess for me. It was such a darker, more grown up story than the rest of the Zelda titles. I loved it. Wind Waker comes in second place, that was just creative.

Have you tried Majora's Mask? If not I will garuntee you that it's much darker and more mature than Twilight Princess. I highly reccomend you pick up a copy of it, it's also on the Legend of Zelda: Collectors Edition for the Gamecube.

wa, I could agree with you more.

It's The Empire Strikes Back of Zelda, it's deeper, more intelligent, and darker than any that came before, or since.

metroid_dragon

I have to agree with you guys. ^^

Yes, Majoras Mask is The most questioning Zelda game, and how your efforts brings down the (Still now) Mysterious entite "Majoras Mask". Yep, it´s also dark and you can feel a little bored each time you go back to the 1st day thinking "Here i go again, all will happen again"But you know little by little you will be one step closer to you destination. Not for Zelda, not for Hyrule, not for the kingdom, not for you. Having these things in mind, you know this is for Termina, a parralel world with no one ho can help it out, but you my friend are the only one ho can light theire world and theire lifes.

That´s why is my favourite game, because is about a different plot, and not the classical as always.

Besides MM, WW is pretty nice and have an excelent sequel story.

[QUOTE="waZelda"]I see no reason to make a Zelda RPG. What the best Zelda games prove is that it don't have to be an RPG to have a good story.waZelda

well they do tell good stories, but after a while, we're gonna want a new story and will be sick of the same one just told in different ways. sooner or later they're gonna have to do something different with the story.

Are you saying there was not a new Link in TP? I mean, in which game have we seen him before. OoT Link was a Hylian boy raised by kokiris. TP Link was a farmer growing up in Ordon Village, with a pierced ear (Which was kind of a shock to see actually, I mean, the Zelda games are traditionally set long back in history).

u do know that wind waker link also has a pierced ear. two actually. and i think link from OoT might also (older link). it definately was a different link, unless maybe after MM he lost his memory and wound up in ordon village, but besides that, there were tons of the same places, and some people believe it to be the sequel to OoT. i dont think it was a direct sequel, but it could have been maybe 10 or 20 years later, with a different link just in the same world. but if that was true then the legend in wind waker would be bologna wouldnt it? :P

I agree that MM has the most interesting story. There is just something about it that sets it apart. I also liked the end of Link's Awakening. I thought that was a nice twist in the plot and it has not been replicated since.

I would have to say Majora's Mask, because of it's dark, brooding nature. But, it could also be Wind Waker bacause of how much was revealed in the story. The best part is finding the stained glass windows.

I was never able to finish Majora's Mask because my friends (who le tme borrow it) abruptly took it away.

I really liked Link's Awakening's (does the DX version change really at all?) story line. It was very simple but I enjoyed it nontheless.

I found Twilight Princess, contrary to common opinion, a horrible game all around, Story included. It was all very vague until the end where all at once it threw itself together. It seemed too rushed to me.

I personally think Wind Waker told an interesting story.

It was the first time Ganon had some kind of personal story, as opposed to the maniac who wants to rule the world we so often have to deal with. It was a nice change.
