It wouldn't let me make a new topic called "Senior Bowl" and I figured we didn't need 2.... so, update for 2008:
Anyone watch the game?
They invite 1 gator, and what does he do? score the game winning touchdown! Per SI:
"Florida's Caldwell scored on a 2-yard end around off a handoff from Tennessee's Ainge on the final play of the Senior Bowl to cap a 14-play, 86-yard final drive and lift the South to a 17-16 win over the North on Saturday."
Quote of the year from Erik Ainge: "I'll remember handing the ball to a Gator to win for the rest of my life."
Full story from SI
Who? lol Florida has more than Harvin?Espurs117
seriously, i hope dan mullen was watching and thinking "oh... other players can get the ball too!"
So, a Tennessee player hands the ball off to a Florida player who ties up the game with a TD, followed by a go-ahead PAT from a Georgia player to win the game. That's interesting.GamerForcaBitter rivalries can be neutral at least sometime.
Sedrick Ellis helped himself a whole lot in that game. As far as Im concerened he is the top DT in this draft, to me he is a bit better then Dorsey.
Pretty much all of the USC players impressed me really I really liked Thomas the CB, David the TE, and The DE.. I forgot his name. But all three of those players impressed me quite a bit.
The DT from ND (Im almost positive his name is Law) he impressed me alot, he is an absolute beast and has a crazy motor.
Adarius Bowman completely embarrassed himself the first few days of practice, dropping about 10 balls... that I saw.
Forte the RB from Tulane seems like a very good RB (in fact I thought he looked better then the RB from GT... sorry forgot his name too... its late).
Xavier Adibi had the best week out of all the LBs followed by Wesley Woodyard.
As far as the QBs go if they played for the north they helped themselves, is they played for the south... well it didnt look to great.
A wee bit of info for those who didnt watch the practices.

I'm going to have to disagree, and no its not because I'm an LSU homer even though I am, Dorsey played almost the entire year injured and still came away with equal numbers to Ellis.
And when I watched Ellis in the senior bowl I was extremely impressed, I mean he was knocking his guy off the line, until I noticed he was going up against the guy from Newberry College (Where?) and the guy from UTEP.
Now I know you have to be good to play in this game usually, but come on...Newberry and UTEP? Is that really a challenge for this guy?
I have a question: This bowl/all-star game is reserved strictly for seniors. Is that the case for the East-West Shrine game, or no?spfx30
spfx30, I haven't watched any of the "all-star" bowls in at least 10 years but my memory is that every one of them (including E-W game) was always "seniors" only. There have been lots of early draft entries that I would have liked to see strut their stuff in the se games but they have always been excluded.
It seems like there used to be a lot more of these games but I think that they became less important for top draft choices and more important for the next round of talent. The bigger name players became more afraid of injuries over time and many of these bowls went away. I think that Draft Combines and even more TV exposure for all teams replaced the need for these games as an important draft tool.
Back in the day, I remember the Hula Bowl, E-W Shrine game, Blue-Gray game, Japan Bowl, and Senior Bowl. I even remember the College All-Star Game (link) where the college all-stars played an NFL team (I think it was normally the Super Bowl champs) which wasn't much of a matchup. I am sure that there are other all-star games that I am forgetting.
Okay. Yeah, there used to be many different all-star games (which I always thought was dumb... why not just one or two?), but the Senior Bowl and the E-W Shrine game are the only two that have ever mattered to me. I occasionally watched the North-South game and the Blue-Gray game in the past, but again, I never truly cared about them.

Yes Ellis and dorsey did both put up very similar stats, and yes Dorsey was injured. But so was Ellis he missed 2 or 3 games and had a lingering shoulder injury through out the season.
He did extremely well during the senior bowl and yeah he was knocking the opposing offense linemen off the ball all week. Sure some of those guys may have been from smaller colleges (most of them werent but some were), but none the less those small college offensive linemen were still the top Senior O-Linemen in the Nation.
Oh and does the size of the college really matter? It obviously doesnt matter for Joe Flacco, Leodis McKlevin, Dominique James- Cromartie(sp), OR that guy from UTEP who quite a few people have as the top senior guard in this draft class.
Ellis more then likely will get drafted behind Dorsey, but I have no doubt that Ellis is the better player.
