I just watched the film, well the end of it anyway, and I was shocked to find out that O'nell's name was accualy ment to be John. In the creids it called him "Johnathan 'Jack' O'nell".
Thats still what is is called and in the mountain is actually NORAD which monitors pretty much everything that flies including space junk around the earth especially if astronauts are up or EVA i think.
I believe Jack is a variation of John. It's kind of like in the game StarCraft there is a main character who is introduced as "James Raynor" but everyone calls him Jim/Jimmy and he even references to himself as "Jimmy" when you select him. It's also the same as if someone's name was Robert and people called them Bob for short, or as a nick name.
ok, I find that some of these "shortings" are stupid; Like having Bill instead of William, thats my middle name and I just don't see the point. (I also hate it when people call me jim/jimmey/jimbob...)

Jack is short for Johnathan.
Jack is actually a shortening of Jonathan Patrick. Don't know how it got that way though. I believe that's how O'Neill got Jack, because his full name is Jonathan Patrick. That's also why the main character in the Tom Clancy novels is Jack Ryan. His full name is Jonathan Patrick Ryan. It must be an Irish thing.

Well, I thought the fight scenes were really cheesy, and the acting was really corny and poorly done (SOME OF IT, NOT ALL). I thought the entire sequence in Kill Bill 2 with the old kung-fu guy was one of the dumbest things I've ever seen in my entire life.

Your right, Kill Bill 2 wasn't as good. But I'm going on about 1.
