It has already been confirmed by Barlog that the new spells we use will be elemental in nature.
This is my guess...the new benefactors are the Titans:
-Titans are often times associated with the elements.
-They hate the gods for overthrowing them and imprisoning them in Tartarus. This would explain why they would want to help Kratos with his new objective.
-They are directly linked to the gods in Greek Myth (making them the most likely accomplices seeing as no one else has station/power enough to challenge them)
-Barlog has mentioned them on more than one occasion, often in conjunction with the benefactors but never declaring them as such
-Since Kratos is getting killed in the beginning of the story, he'll be going to Hades (again)...this is close to Tartarus..thus making it more likely he could be contacted (start a collaborative effort) by the Titans
The kink in this chain, atleast from where I stand, is in what Barlog said about the benefactors being 'familiar to the first entry in the series'. The only Titan directly present in the first GoW was Kronos (Cronus)..he was the father of Zeus as seen carrying the Temple of Pandora on his back through the Desert of Lost Souls (look at manuel pic):
~Hopefully this will become easier to figure after reading the September issue of GameInformer (their going to be having another GoWII article according to Cory Barlog)
That would be cool. If so, I wonder which Titan gave Kratos the wind bow. The wind deities weren't titans - although Uranos was the Titan of the sky, so it could have been him. Zenodoros
I think you just answered your own question. I'd prefer they used the greek name for him, Oranos (Ouranos).
Oranos named what they were..TITANS ("straining ones") since they overstepped their boundaries by daring to commit such an act as castrating/overthrowing their father.
-Oceanus embodies the ocean
-Tethys was the Titan goddess of Rivers
-Hyperion embodies the sun
-Theia is Titan goddess of glittering and glory
-Coeus was the Titan of Intelligence
-Phoebe is the Titan goddess associated with the moon
-Kronos didn't have an exact position (he is often confused for Chronos who embodies time)
-Rhea is Titan mother to the gods (the Olympians)
-Mnemosyne is Titan goddess of memory
-Themis is the Titaness embodiment of divine order, law and custom (also sometimes attributed with mothering the FATES with Zeus)
-Crius was father to the Titan Pallas who fathered Cratos (Might), Nike (Victory), Bia (Violence) and Zelus (Zeal)...he didn't have a real station
-Iapetus was father to Atlas, Prometheus (Forethought), Epimetheus (hind-thought) and Menoetius (ruined strength...as Zeus' thunder crippled him)
~I just had another thought..perhaps some of the monsters that remain could aid us to get back at the god who betrayed them (such as Charybdis who was a daughter to Poseidon and GAIA..she wanted to expand her father's territory by flooding the lands but Zeus had other plans..that involve turning her into a sea monster)..this of course having to do with the whirlpool part of Water spell I started working on
You would think Mythology themed games would be more common place since the source material takes a lot of the frustration out of creating a game world (names/gods/monsters/weapons/items ideas are made WELL in advance)
~That is one my favorite aspects of God of War...taking these old myths and bringing them to life (with style)
