what in god of war made you like it so much or at least attracted you enough to buy one of the games?

for it me it was because of the way the developers managed to take Greek mythology and twist to form an even more interesting and compelling story.

not to mention the game-play - which is really, really fun!

What's this? A new topic at my TUGOWU?

Its more likely than I thought.

Firstly congratulations on your exemplorary spelling and diction.

Secondly I suppose I ought to answer your question, the Greek mythology played a part but the main attraction of GoW was the fact that Kratos had Swords on chains burned on/into his forearms.

None of this "oops I lost my sword" business for Special K.

Beautifully put as always MrCC. I originally rented it because I had heard good things, and it looked kind of cool. I found much more than I had expected. I found the franchise of my dreams.

I was sold on footage of the GoW1 Demo while going through IGN videos. Rental was an absolute. Upon renting, I just kept it and bought it through Blockbuster.

Brutality, Greek Mythology, Great Combat, Excellent Score (Music), Art Design, Graphics and Story. The tilt I could work around since I deal with repitition well and create 'synthetic tilt'. The glitches were often charming rather then alarming. (later additions keep taking away these lovely things) Kratos is a great character (to me) but I come back for the combat in the end. The bosses are well and good but putting foot-to-ass with the regulars is where the real lasting pleasure is at. Then cracking the game with glitches/exploits, cheap strats, etc.

With GoWII, Barlog gave a free demo but I was obviously already sold. Reserved a copy and picked it up day 1.

Got Betrayal since I had the right phone service.

Eventually got a PSP so I could get CoO.

Will get a PS3 only just before GoWIII releases.

For me, just that it was a challenging enough game for me.. I'm a gamer, regardless of my current hiatus from gaming.. (been a lil busy with life).

Game play, story line, and challenge.. its all I ever really need in a game...

There was a demo through the Hydra in a Playstation Magazine issue. I only got the magazine for 6 months, but luckily this was one of them. I purchased it immediately after playing the demo.

Of course he did it well. MrCC doesn't do **** halfway.

Who would have guessed it? Many of the peole that are into GoW got into it for the combat.

In all serious the growing madness aspect struck a chord. The Blades of Chaos looked to awesome to ignore.

Despite the Blades (Athenas/ of Chaos alter to suit) being the main draw the sub weapons are now my favourite.

I wouldn't like to have to choose a favourite out of them.

EDIT: While that was my immediate answer, I will concede that I also greatly enjoyed the Blade of Artemis on my single playthrough of the original GoW.

I loved the story and the Characters. Kratos is one of the most anti heroes I have seen and that's why I like him.

Splendid question there Mr Lucifer.

Mr optiow, what makes Kratos the "most anti hero"? Please endeavour to show your reasoning.

Mr-Lucifer
Well, he only realy cares for himself and Sparta. Just think, he could have saved the sea capitain in the first game but he did not need the sea capitain, so he let him fall. In the second game, the translators, he kills them to open a door ect. He does not care who he kills, as long as he gets what he wants. Anti hero.

No, I'm not seeing the "hero" part at all. You said it yourself, "he only really cares for himself and Sparta (debatable)". Being an anti-hero requires heroic deeds whether said person completely means them or not.

The 'best' thing Kratos ever did was kill Ares, at the behest of the other Gods (whose motives are questionable at best), even that was for his own personal gain.

Kratos isn't an anti-hero, you've failed to prove otherwise.

"behest"

Debate over. Mr-Lucifer winss

EDIT

What makes an "anti hero". Is an "anti hero" the very antithesis of a hero?

Generally the difference between anti heroes and heroes in video games is that the anti hero  kills NPC's after talking to them.

Anti-hero isn't as it sounds. Else it would essentially just be a villian.

To quote from wikipedia: "In fiction, an antihero is a protagonist whose character and goals are antithetical to classical heroism."

Anti-hero's do heroic things with questionable methods. "The ends justify the means". Sometimes they do things to be heroic, they can have personal gain in mind but it can also benefit more than himself.

Essentially...Batman and The Punisher are decent examples.

From time to time one must power through these old glitches.

HTML errors are common. Re-clicking "submit" often gets by them. Try previewing before you post.

I try that all the time, sometimes it just refuses to work and I don't much feel like re-clicking submit when I could just space it out and still have it readable.

Might be too late to pitch in for the debate, but this is where the Hero part of anit-Hero comes in:

We play as Kratos, he's the protagonist. GoW is his story, hence the hero. But his qualities are anti-thesis of a classic[al] hero, hence the anti part of it.

Oh, getting back on topic, I saw a gameplay video on GamerTV and knew I had to play this game. Mainly, the whole blades attached to chains seared into forearms stuff.

That's what did it for me too. I might as well chime in on this one too, seeing as I haven't posted in this thread yet.

*snghfkl*

The "Blades of *inser name" are great for many reasons.

Long Range swords.

No need to aim with tricky guns.

They are Swords on freaking Chains.

Not to mention the equally valid point that they are freaking Chains, with swords on the end.

Two of them. One for each hand.

Need I continue?

By crikey!

It sure did old bean. Chains cauterised into the flesh of your arms? Have a trolley full of manpoints.

Must admit that when I first got Artemis I was like, "where did the blades that are permanently attatched to his arms as a reminder of his servitude to Ares just go? Is there a split link in the chain?"

My friend lent me GoW 2 and told me to try it out. Thoroughly fascinated by it due to the story, visuals, the chain blades, and also due to the relative simplicity of the combat system when compared to titles like Devil May Cry 3 and Ninja Gaiden, I decided to buy GoW 1 and 2 and play them.

Wonder what one would find in his pockets... nothing but knives/blades and lint (;

I like to believe the blades go into his forearms. Gives a whole new meaning to 'forearms of steel' and fits with the whole 'chains seared to flesh' concept. So yeah, the blades are his radius [one of the 2 bones in the forearm].

asmaddasinain

When chains were seared to his flesh his radius and ulna fused to form what can now be called his uber-ulna. Else, his forearms would go limp the moment he took BoC out, don't you think? In GoW2 he split BoArtemisLvl3 into 2 and got himself new ulnae. Didn't you wonder [like me] where BoArtemis went?

Yeah, has to be this... makes perfect sense. Explains everything (:
