Our mission is to make this union a place where users can post their work, receive constructive feedback and improve their writing ability. We are for both experienced and new writers as well as for people who just want a good read. Above all else, we want to create an atmosphere where our members feel at home.
Keep the mission of this union in mind, a few rules will have to be in place to ensure that we achieve our goal. I expect that all of them will be followed.

1. No flaming of any kind will be tolerated. This includes when you are posting comments on someones work (poems, lyrics, stories, etc.). Remember that there is a clear line between constructive criticism and flaming someone, do not cross that line.

2. Do not spam.
Spam is an unwanted waste. This includes double-posting (just edit your last post), making multiple topics about the same thing or posting something that is completely offtopic. Quoting someone and not adding anything of your own is also considered spamming.

3. Always give credit to the original author. You are allowed to post other people's work, but always remember to give credit to the original author whether it is a quote, story, song or poem.

4. No advertising to similar boards and unrelated things alike. If you have a site of writers tips, or something to that extent, theres appropriate topics for that. But no creating topics to advertise/ spamvertising.

5. No offtopic discussions. The Writers' Lounge is committed to sharing anything that's related to reading and writing only. Posting anything about videogames and/ or anything offtopic will get your topic locked immediately.

Thank you in advance for your compliance of these simple rules.

A Note on Suggestions:

All suggestions are welcome, but please remember we are a writing oriented union and any suggestions that are made should directly apply to our union. There are a few methods where you can present your suggestion, you can either make a topic about it or you can private message it to one of the officers (Including me), HyperMetaDragon, or the leader (Sparky-05).

Thank you in advance for all suggestions.

I'd like to expand upon these two here, particularly at the end of Sparky's statement.

Involvement, ultimately, is what makes a union, and I'd like to bold and italicise the fact that we're reading your work, and you shouldn't be afraid of that! Even if nobody responds to it, rest assured that it is being read. I can imagine that, most likely, a lot of people can be fairly hesitant to put up writing they've worked (hard) on, for fear of ridicule or it not being liked.  I can also imagine that if you do put something up, and nobody says anything, you may get discouraged and not want to post anything more.

I'd just like to say that, ultimately, if your purpose is to write for yourself, then write for yourself. If your purpose is to improve, then put your piece up! Get lauded, get real criticism, and bear that in mind as you continue writing. Know, however, that none of us are true "masters" of the art, and really, there's no "real" way to say what makes one writer better than another. Though I love Sylvia Plath, there are other people who don't like her. Though I think Stephen King is a terrible author, millions and millions of other people disagree.

If you just want to put up a piece to be read, and you don't want any criticism, well, you can say that too!  Though we're all about growing as writers, a part of that is getting over the hump of comfort first, and I think that your friendly Writers' Lounge can understand that.  So take your time, but don't be shy!

And remember, the key here is writing: We don't care if it's poetry, short stories, novels or other longer works, lyrics, an essay (but don't ask for work on school essays ), an article you wrote, or any other laundry list of potential literary bodies that it could be.

So don't be afraid, guys, and put some stuff up! All the cool kids are doing it. And you want to be cool, don't ya?  Of course you do.
