The Cosplay bug

A couple of years ago I was talking on the phone to a friend named Josh about something (Like I remember) and I just came on up with this idea. The best way to talk about is in this story...

In high school at lunch a few friends and me were just sitting at the table. I looked around to wonder where Josh was. I saw him earlier that day, but it's not like it mattered really he could have been busy with anything. Roderick, one my friends who was facing me looked like he saw a ghost.

Roderick: (Surprised) What the hell?

Me: What?

I turn around to see Josh dressed as Link from The Legend Zelda. He has everything! The green tunic with green cap, brown long sleeve undershirt and brown boots. He's got the shield in one hand and sword in the other, raising it up in the air. For those who know who Link is you know that left something out, Link's tights. However, Josh wasn't not wearing anything under that tunic, I mean nothing! I stood up and walked up to Josh just to see his outfit close up.

Me: (Looking at his legs) I hope to God that he's wearing something under that thing!

Me: Josh! Why the hell are dressed as Link?

Josh: I am not Josh. I am Link! The legendary hero of Hyrule! And keeper of the Triforce of Courage.

I didn't know what the make this. I had a grin from ear to ear, but this was embarrassing. Everyone is now looking Josh. However I divided that this isn't problem and went back to lunch. Josh, or should I say Link sat along with us to eat. About five minutes later. Link turned around to see the girl that Josh had a crush on. Her name was Nelicia. Josh walked up to Nelica and sat at her table along side her. She was kind of freaked out; I mean who wouldn't be, from what I heard in that conversation that Link called Nelicia, Princess Zelda.

Nelicia: (Surprised with a grin) What? Did you just call me Princess Zelda?

What can I say, I couldn't help but watch. Students and teachers asked me about this whole cosplay situation. I say to them, "I'm just as confused as you are." After school I was trying to find Josh, or Link or whatever he's calling himself, but I never did. I tried called him at home but his brother, Jamie picked the phone.

Me: Hi, is Josh there?

Jamie: No, he says he's on some quest to uncover the Triforce or something, I dunno.

Me: Wait, is he still dressed up like Link over there?

Jamie: Yeah.

Me: I wonder why?

Jamie: Over the weekend was playing the Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past non-stop to the point where he was obsessed with it. Then he started thinking he was Link.

Me: Well, tell him that Chris (Me) called.

Jamie: Sure.

I was hoping he would get out this phase tomorrow, but I guess I was wrong it got worse! Nelicia, the girl that Josh liked came to school dressed as Princess Zelda. Whoever asked her why she just said, "I'm not Nelicia. It is I, Princess Zelda of Hyrule." If you think it stopped there, Now the my teachers were getting involved in this whole mess. I found my English teacher, Ms. Lindbeck all decked out like Samus Aran from Metoird. One of the science teachers, Mr. Witt was cosplaying as Master Chief from Halo. One of the my favorite teachers Mr. Minarik cosplayed as Soild Snake. If know what he goes though ever day I can see him being Snake. That's what Roderick tells me.

Speaking of Roderick I found him and his closet girlfriend Geneva cosplaying as Kenshin from Himura Kenshin and Sakura and from Cardcaptors, which would make sense since there kind of obsessed with those characters. Soon it came to a point where everybody in school except for me started to come down with what I call the cosplay bug. There were all dressed as characters from video game and anime. I reached a point where I stopped caring and when along with it as if it was normal.

One day I went the bathroom and saw Josh throwing up in a urinal. (Yes a urinal!)

Me: Hey what's wrong Link?

Link: (Turns to me with disgusted look on his face) I made love to Zelda!

Me: OK then, why are you throwing up?

Link: I found out later that Zelda was my sister! (Goes back to barfing in the urinal)

Me: O............................K.

I left the bathroom used the one across the hall. (BTW: There some rumor flying around a long time ago that Link and Zelda were related. Just thought someone would like to know)

End of story...

Tell me what you think.

That's completely awesome.   Everyone cosplaying as a video game/anime character at school?   W00t, that would pwn.   I've never heard the Link being related to Zelda rumor, but I dunno if anyone would get that into cosplaying to care at that point?     That would have been a great school to go to. (except the not wearing anything under the tunic problem)

Heh.  That's a pretty good story.  Feels unfinished though.

It did end abruptly. In some ways, that is a part of the charm. Perhaps if I had ever played a Link game, it would make more sense to me...
