So lets say just for fun, what if the characters from the twisted metal universe had a battle royal against the characters from vigilante 8... who do you think would win, and why? I think i'd probably go with twisted metal, but not by much. their special weapons seem like they would do more damage and work a little better so they would be more efficient at killing

I'd say Twisted Metal would win. I actually loved both series, but the specials were alot better I think in the Twisted Metal games.

Tough question, but I think most people would have to go with Twisted Metal as do I. I really, really like Vigilante 8 as well, but to be honest they've just done more with the Twisted Metal franchise overall. The thing I like about Vigilante 8 is that it isn't just straight car combat, you do have to take care of those little tasks throughout each level. But it's not enough to beat Twisted Metal in my opinion. Long live Sweet Tooth!!!

I suppose that's one of the best parts about Twisted Metal; it's simple and sweet, but the more you play it and the more you get into it, the deeper it gets; which is what allows it to be a good game for the casual gamer, but possess the challenge for us hardcore fans. In a sense, I hope it becomes deeper with the, various options for online matches in the new Twisted Metal, but the option for the basic deathmatch we know and love will always be open to us.

Exactly, the series has been going on so long since the original Playstation came out that it's got an awesome sense of history to it. It's almost like a club of sorts now for all those who appreciate it like we do! I remember in university we used to have the best intentions of going to class each morning but then one of us would fire up Twisted Metal 2 for a quick game before class. We'd end up never leaving the house! I don't know how I graduated . . .

And another one of the nice things is that unlike a lot of long running series, it has got that sense of history without being an easy cash cow to be abused within. Those who remember Twisted Metal will remember it back from its glory days, when the original, the sequel, and Black were released. But there's a lot of gamers out there who don't know about Twisted Metal, and like it still has something to prove, we can expect a good games; especially coming from Jaffe, because we've seen what a less-than-stellar TM game can look like.

Exactly, despite there being so many games in the series they are always quality and very well done! This series really should be used as a model for other developers I would say.

At least the great thing is that the series is where it needs to be, and with the right developer and producer. If you look at a lot of the PlayStation exclusives back in the day, almost all of them have moved to a different developer and is being developed across all platforms, if at all. It even says on the game's home page that it's the longest running franchise in PlayStation history. Even though Twisted Metal went into a slump with TMIII and TM4 (IMO) when Jaffe and crew weren't working on it, it is now back with them, and they have the best sense of what Twisted Metal truly is, and what we as fans, and the mainstream audience want. I feel they're really going to deliver it with the upcoming game.

The games like Twisted Metal III and Small Brawl, even though a lot of people didn't like them, I still really liked them although they weren't as good as the other entries in the series. They were still better than a lot of other games out there! Hah! The other series exclusive to PS that keeps on keeping on is Gran Turismo. The Twisted Metal and Gran Turismo series are by far my two favourite things about the whole Playstation universe. Let's keep hoping they don't screw either of them up!

That's another thing that I love about Sony; their line of exclusives is not only plentiful, but is spread across so many genres, and rarely ever disappoints.

As for TMIII and TM4 (I can't comment on Small Brawl since I haven't tryed it), as Jaffe said in his interview in the Dark Past, they weren't really bad games, but they didn't make such great Twisted Metal games. I remember playing Twisted Metal 4 quite a bit, and though it was very different from TM2, I didn't ever mind too much since is was very fast-paced and action packed. But when I look deep into it now, it just doesn't feel like the Twisted Metal formula as much as games like TM2 or TMB.

True about the Sony exlusives, they've got a lot of really good ones! I think that's way key nowadays for these companies to have success selling their systems.

I agree about the various, not as great Twisted Metal games. They are good games to play, but they don't compare to the best the series has to offer. I'd have to say my ultimate favourite is TM2 (good university memories on that one!), but I also really like TM: Black and TM: Head-On.

Minion and/or Dark Tooth would probably come in and just take them all out then they'd have a final battle to the death.

Vigilante 8 isn't something I did play though I did play the original's demo which I thought it wasn't too bad it just wasn't my taste.

Twisted Metal on the other hand is I just love how awesome each game gets not including 3, 4 and Small Brawl.

I will make it known here too that I am a crazy fan of Sweet Tooth that loves this series every since it got released.

I personally think this was the greatest thing Dave Jaffe with many others ever created.

I actually liked 3, 4 and Small Brawl, but not nearly as much as the others. I'm pretty easy to please! :D Vigilante 8 I also really liked because of the added objectives you have to do, but I find I have to be in the right frame of mind to play it, whereas TM I can pick up any time and go. It is one of the best video game series ever created easily. And hopefully there's many more to come!

Man, there are fans that freakin' LOATHE them! :P I try to stick up for them when I can, but I do agree that they aren't as good as the others. Can't bat 1.000 all the time I guess!
