yea...it's amazing what changing the face of the company can do

Cena has been the face of the company for so long now and it's all been the same for years...but now that the cm punk being the face of the company train is now full steam ahead, things are shifting dramatically and in such a short time

How in f***s name is CM Punk now being considered the face for the company. Oh so now every face champion has been the face of the company?

Hogan
Warrior
Rock
Austin
Cena

They were all considered the face of the company. CM Punk is no where near as culturally impactful than them in terms of fan base, changing the way wrestling is and being culturally Iconic. Chris Jericho and Kurt Angle were closer to being a legitimate FACE of the company than Punk will ever be and even then they were not.

Also when is the championship going to be 'Interesting' again? He's just another champ. A worthy champ but just a champ like everyone else. Nothing new and interesting about that.

His sales figures are up over cenas and he holds the title and continues to be in the main event while cena is not....that may not be the face of the company in your eyes...but in WWE creatives eyes, it is...they love sales and they go where the money is

and when will the title be interesting again? when it stops changing hands every god damn month and someone has a long term run of at least 4-6 months

the WWE championship in my eyes lost all credibility it had when cena would have it and then lose it and then gain it right back again in less than a month...the fact that he has 13 world titles and is 4 away from passing flair absolutely disgusts me

Still makes no sense. Kurt Angle was at his most popular around the time he had the 'milk bath' memorable moment on raw. He was still never considered the face of the company and the rating were very good during that time. Cena still grosses more money than Punk. Don't get me wrong Cena is a piece of crap and the fact he wins the title and hogs all the PPV's is disgusting. He main evented at one point this year 7 PPV's in a row. Disgusting. There are faaaaaaaar more casual fans than real wrestling fans who will go pay to see Cena and the more real fans pay to see punk.

Also Cena has still main eveneted more PPV's this year than Punk which means creatively the team think he sells more still. He even main evented Survivor Series and he wasn't a champ which sums it even more up. Plus merchandise and what-not you have a selling machine who sucks but sells like a mother f*****...

For the title to become interesting again has NOTHING to do with how much it changes hands but what you DO in the time you hold the championship. The only thing working for Punk so far is that he's actually a decent wrestler and can have good matches. His promo's are turds at the moment though, He was brilliant after the shoot and then he kinda just 'breaks the fourth wall' and its getting old fast.

Example 'Are we really going to do another contract signing when we all know its gonna end in a fight blah blah blah'... Whats the point in pointing it out and then just running with it. Its like he's saying 'This segment sucks but lets point out how much it sucks and still run with it anyway'. So basically doing what we have all seen before. Thats uninteresting.

Also the title has lost credibility ever since wrestlers don't actually win a title in a MATCH. Money In The Bank is a good idea but done wrong wrong wrong. If you win Money In A Bank you should get a Title Match and can decide when and where. NOT come out after someone has had a match and win it in 3 seconds?! Its a discrace to think that we went from someone winning a Royal Rumble and putting on a PERFORMANCE at Wrestlemania in an Iron Man match and completely showing people how they are deserving champs and giving people there moneys worth at the same time to I'll cash in my money in the bank and win the title in 3 seconds flat. What a Joke. Proves that wrestlers don't have what it takes to actually wrestle and its not even shocking anymore. Its been old since the second time Edge cashed in. At least it was shocking then and at least it went to someone who's worthy.

What do you want them to do to make the title interesting? They've been bending over backwards to try to make the belts seem important lately. For f***'s sake, the entire episode of Raw yesterday centered around how new guys have the belts and why it's such a big deal.

Yea to people like you they might seem important but you're easily amused. Jericho, Benoit and Eddie took over 10 years to even start becoming recognised and they were easily some of the best of all time. Yet Benoit and Eddie only won the title once each. They busted their butts putting on a performance for a match aswel yet little cry babies in WWE today have to moan and cry there way up to the top. The only worthy one out of all of them is Punk and he's no where near on the same level as Benoit, Jericho or Eddie.

Doesn't mean anything if you don't SHOW US with a match why you should be a champion and earn it the REAL way. So he just comes off as a tool instead. I know he can wrestle but he just isn't champion worthy unless he gives us are money's worth and puts on a performance. I would have said the exact same thing about Jericho, Benoit and Eddie but the difference there is that they all DELIVERED even when they were not Champs.

Yes cena has main evented more this year...because punk did not pick up popularity until half through the year after MITB...and the only reason cena main evented SS was because of the Rock...it was the rocks show that night, not cenas

and the MITB is used to get new talents into the main event picture alot quicker...it jumpstarts careers and its the matches AFTER that MITB win is what defines their title credibility....Edge has certainly proved that as has the Miz in my personal opinion...miz's title run was the most entertaining run i've seen in years

Yea I miss the days when even the great wrestlers put on consistant great wrestling performances even when they were not the champions. Daniel Bryan is not even Cruiserweight worthy in terms of his match quality and I've yet to see anything that shows he's actually a decent wrestler. Putting on a submission move here and there doesn't mean anything when the match is poor. You have show us how putting these submissions on are entertaining and not just do it without any substance towards the match. Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit are prime examples on how to be submission specialist and implementing it into the match in an entertaining way and actually delivering great matches.

do you honestly think that if given the chance by WWE creative team to go all out and show the world who daniel bryan really is that he wouldn't take it?

it's not his fault....in a heart beat this guy would wrestle a 60 min iron man match on a damn superstars show if he had to and you should KNOW that

saying he can't wrestle just because they jump started his WWE career with a cash in? that's just the most absurd thing i've heard in awhile

YES but he still MAIN evented instead of letting the so called new face CM Punk have the main event match. Whether it was Rock or Not. Cena still sells more and the only reason why he won't main event much now is not because Punk sells more but because they are banking that Cena vs Rock will sell the show at Wrestlemania and want him to take it easy.

A real wrestler would move up the ranks and show why he's chamionship worthy. MITB is a great idea but done wrong. Win the Money In The Bank and put on a performance that defines why you're championship worthy instead of just cashing in and winning in 3 seconds. Also the championship can change like twice in a night because of MITB which you said was what makes the championship a joke. CM Punk wins the Undisputed championship at summerslam from Cena and then Alberto wins it from him after 3 seconds. So basically you contradicted yourself because MITB MAKES the title change hands so much. Its basically a lazy way to let people who are not championship worthy able to win and get the title and lose it before they get stale because people would know they arn't legit champs. Edge winning was not only shocking but he was a wrestler who had finally made his way up the top after so many years and he was a worthy champion. Even he held to many championships though.

The Miz are you serious? The Miz sums up everything that is wrong with WWE today. A person who is not threatening in the slightest and completely stole his whole style and Gimmicks from Chris Jericho but does it wrong and cannot wrestle in the slightest. The most un-worthy and discrace of a champ of all time. Its actually an insult to people like Eddie and Benoit that people like that win the championship.

Ignoring the fact that Daniel Bryan has been the best technical wrestler in the world for the better part of a decade now, when has "ability to consistently put amazing matches" ever been a requirement to be WWE Champion?

For every Eddie/Benoit/Bret Hart who scratched and clawed their way to the top by putting on great match after great match, I can bring up an Ultimate Warrior, Yokozuna, or Diesel who won't ever be remembered as amazing wrestlers. When it comes to in-ring ability those guys aren't even on the same planet as Daniel Bryan.

The one argument you can make against Bryan is the fact that WWE audiences might not be ready to accept him as a top guy yet. There's validity to that argument since he's been floundering in the midcard and losing a bunch of matches. If they decide to lump him in with the super-over CM Punk/Zack Ryder team it will do wonders for Bryan's popularity I think.

Ever since the beggining of wrestling actually. We are watching WRESTLING for wrestling matches and to be entertained. Putting on sloppy boring matches or just having the odd good match now and then is pointless. Unless you want to deliver each and every night even when you are not champ then you might aswell leave wrestling because I'm not paying to 'know' Bryan is a good wrestler. I'm paying to 'see' why he's a good wrestler. So if you don't perform and put on a show then you might aswel not have bothered.

The Warrior days of wrestling was cheesey in general and even Hogan was cheesey but it got away with it because WWE didn't really know what it wanted to be and most fans enjoyed this new form of enetertainment. Especially when the first Wrestlemania came out and it started forming the BIG wrestling show and was new to everyone. Then WWE progressed to become much more 'Professional' and legit. Diesel is an unworthy champion.

Paul London has delivered more than Daniel Bryan has ever done and he was a cruiserweight. He wasn't AMAZING but for the people he had to contend with he delivered. daniel Bryan seems cruiserweight worthy at best.

ITT: People complaining about both Cena being champion AND new people being champion.

Seriously...if not Cena, Punk, or Bryan...who do you WANT to be champion?

Because honestly, Cena has consistently been the most hard-working guy for years now. And he puts on great matches every year, this year even a ***** match.

Speaking of that, there's Punk. Hilarious, and able to connect with the part of the crowd that Cena cannot. Works perfectly as both a face and a heel.

Then Bryan. Completely over? Maybe not. But in my mind the best wrestler there is in WWE right now.

LMAO You do realise that he only wins because there is literally no-one else to give it to. If Kurt Angle, Eddie, Jericho, Benoit, Flair, Owen Hart, Bret hart among a load others were either alive or still doing full time legit wrestling then Daniel Bryan wouldn't even be a spec of dirt on the wrestler Radar to that website. Seriously name another technical wrestler at the moment? Bryan is pretty much it which doesn't indicate that he's good at it. When you're surrounded by dirt then dirt in a sandwich obviously looks good.

Not only that but its only an opinion of Wrestling Observe which has lost credibility over the years anyway.

Hard Working means nothing if you're no good at what you do. Every face of the company has worked just as hard as John Cena and at least had the decency to change their character to heel or something and at least backed up their hard work with brilliant matches at each pay per view. No one deserves to be champ. They should just strip the title off the next bozo who 3 second wins their way to a championship via MITB briefcase and keep it on the sideline for a year and have a massive tournament or something with wrestlers puting on at least 15-25 min matches and earning their way to the championship. We've only had one 5 star match this year (Would only consider it 4 and a half stars personally) when almost every pay per view during the attitude era had at least TWO 4 star to 5 star match in each event.

Just let Punk keep the championship until someone earns their way to the top and beats him PRPERLY in an ACTUAL match. You know Shawn Michaels put on an Iron Man match and proved to everyone that not only was he an amazing enetertainer and wrestler but he was extremely worthy of the title and putting on one of the best matches of all time.

Also Pokajabba havn't you found it odd that Money In The Bank is so much more easier to win AND be champion. It makes the Royal Rumble less credible considering that not only to you have to beat 29 other superstars and be in a hour long match but you might not even win at Wrestlemania.

With Money In The Bank you're in a 20 min match and only usually have to beat 5 other people and its basically a championship IN the suitcase. Its rediculous.

Yea it feels like a title match without the champion basically. I'm not against the Money In The Bank idea though... I just think they have done the idea wrong. I think you should get a championship match anytime and anywhere (Not at wrestlemania though because as you said it makes the Royal Rumble seem pointless) and have an actual match. Not come in after a match and win in 3 seconds because it makes the wrestler with the briefcase seem unworthy and that they can't perform an entertaining match to earn the title.

If Daniel Bryan was such an amazing wrestler, then why have I seen him live in ROH over 10 times and once in IWA: MS. Why do I own over 50 ROH DVDs with him on the cover or him in the main event? Why was he named Best Tecnical Wrestler from 2005 - 2011 and why was he Outstanding wrestler of the year 2006 - 2010 and named Most Outstanding Wrestler of the Decade and given the 2007 Match of the Year by Wrestling Observer? The dirt sheets are never right!

Seriously guys, who is this mook? If he was so great, he'd have had arguably the best match of 2010 which I was live for.

Batista and Jericho beat him. That's all I need to know about him. The guys is a poser and a nerd.

Now Cena vs. Kane for the WWE title at Royal Rumble! (Hot shot it off Punk ASAP!)

This thread makes me want to kill myself.

Nostalgia has blinded people to point where BRYAN DANIELSON isn't considered great, let alone ****ing amazing.

I've seen this mother****er wrestle for 48 minutes with a seperated shoulder, and the match was awesome. (screw you Gary, Cabana vs Danielson was awesome. I remember you rated it like 3 stars, wtf)

Except all those are LITERALLY right after the Attitude Era. The actual wrestling was definitely better AFTER the Attitude Era, which I'll give you that, those are some great events.

Attitude Era ended at Wrestlemania 17. Attitude Era started because of the war versus WCW, and WCW died the week before. WM17 marked the final moments in the Attitude Era with the Austin and Vince alliance.

That's a lot of fog you got in your nostalgia glasses right there.

He's right though. Back then and in the early 2000s, every division had something worth watching. Monsters were monsters. Tag teams were tag teams. Submissions weren't a bad joke. Each belt meant something - except for the Hardcore title arguably. I only cared about that belt when Steve Blackman or Mick Foley had it. Can't wait to hear what I get for that comment.

You can tell that he's trolling with the Danielson thing though. "I'll cash in my money in the bank and win the title in 3 seconds flat. What a Joke. Proves that wrestlers don't have what it takes to actually wrestle and its not even shocking anymore." As if Bryan Danielson decides that? Wrestling isn't real Poka, it's the bookers that decide what happens and when.

In actuality, Danielson may be one of the best wrestlers in general, but he doesn't seem to be allowed to be what he "really is" in the WWE. The restrictions put forth by the WWE with regard to match progression and booking in general seem to take away a lot of what could make him stand out. That isn't his fault, and I'm hoping that it is remedied now that he's the champ and the wave of the "new era" is upon us.

Most of us here know how Punk got his first big title win in the WWE. Now look at where he is today.

The Hardcore title had little periods of worth, specifically when RVD held it and fought Jeff Hardy or Undertaker. Wasn't Foley the first champ? That was before we knew that the title would become a running gag every week. Blackman was alright.

Other than that, it was a joke title and everyone knew it. WWE-style trash cans aren't really hardcore.

Ugh, and once again another topic is derailed for "WWE USED TO BE SO MUCH BETTER!!!" discussions. It is true, we get it, we all know it. Don't need it.

Woah woah Look at this guy and not knowing his era's. Attitude era was from 1997 - 2002. Unless you're saying the attitude era lasted 2-3 years? Get real. There was plenty of attitude up till 2002.
Also The Monday Night WAR was ended at wrestlemania 17 and was a part of the attitude era but not the whole thing.

[QUOTE="Razor-Lazor"]Seriously...if not Cena, Punk, or Bryan...who do you WANT to be champion?Redders1989
Glad someone said it. As far as I can see, skimming over, no one's even answered your question. Shooting down people who are champs, and not giving an alternative doesn't help your cause people.

'Hard Working means nothing if you're no good at what you do.

You know Shawn Michaels put on an Iron Man match and proved to everyone that not only was he an amazing enetertainer and wrestler but he was extremely worthy of the title and putting on one of the best matches of all time.'

You now look like an idiot because of the fact you read what you WANT to read and hand out accusations that no one is coming up with anything. Nice job.

'As if Bryan Danielson decides that? Wrestling isn't real Poka, it's the bookers that decide what happens and when.'

That maybe true to some degree but then again you could say if Danielson wanted to be a real competitor then he would show his idea's to the creative team and show he wants to prove you can win MITB and win the title in a realistic way. I'm hoping he will step up with some matches. Punk won the title years ago for the first time but he's only really been championship worthy in the past 2 years and even then he had to cry to get the title arguably. At least he's stepping up with good matches which is the main thing in my book.

It almost feels that Benoit or Eddie would be turning in their graves with how easy and lazy champions are decided today when it took them a looooooong time and they put on a great match to prove they were champion worthy.

I'd also like to say quickly that I watched a Daniel Bryan match for Ring Of Honour and the guy can deffinately wrestle. I wouldn't say he's close to benoit and Angle though but it was a very good match.

If you read this pokajobba then I recommend you watch a match of his on ROH. It doesn't change the fact that he's pretty much the ONLY technical wrestler and that his work in WWE is extremely lazy.

Well the end of the attitude era was just after Wrestlemania 17 but the official official ending was at Invasion. I agree that most of the characters, attitude and overal feel of the attitude era did indeed carry on till early-mid 2002 and by 2003 it felt like a new era.

Also

'The Wrestling Observer counts all promotions across all countries. He's won it 6 years in a row'

And yet again he's about all we have when it comes to technical wrestling. So of course he will win.

I did say I only skimmed over people's posts, not read them in detail. You've quite rightly pointed out that I did miss that.

We could all argue for decades why wrestling is bad today and why you guys actually enjoy it but I think we should all just leave it because we will be argueing for ever otherwise.
Also Ocelot I would watch Daniel Bryan in ROH but if I see any greatness out of him of any kind and watch how he works in WWE at the moment I might end up disliking his skills even more due to fact I would know he's good but has decided to be really lame in WWE today.
