"Big Show's contract expires in February and he is in a great deal of physical pain nowadays. Big Show legitimately weighs 520 pounds, finds traveling very difficult, and has already been taken off of most minor ECW house shows. Due to these problems, plans are being made to get the ECW title off of him soon. The problem with this is that Rob Van Dam is the only ECW wrestler in a good position to win it, yet Vince McMahon has been said to be determined to not to let him be the champion again following his arrest the last time around. McMahon also feels RVD cannot draw as a champion, although other WWE officials believe the crowds will be the same no matter who has the belt.

Big Show has been telling people that he is considering leaving wrestling next year and going into acting, since his size and comedic personality makes him rather unique and should get him plenty work. His original contract, signed in 1999, was $950,000 a year for ten years. It was renegotiated in 2000 when management felt he wasn't working hard enough and sent him to Ohio Valley Wrestling, with Jim Ross cutting it down to $1,000,000 a year for eight years. Eventually, Vince got irritated about paying that much for anybody in developmental and they just took him as he was in early 2001.

John Laurinaitis started talking to him about a new deal recently, which involved a major pay cut. After Kurt Angle left the company, WWE had more money available for wages and he was offered a five-year extension at the same wage, which he turned down. The company was shocked by his rejection, yet Big Show doesn't believe that he can continue due to the severe pain he is experiencing. His back is shot and he fears that he may start rapidly physically deteriorating like Andre the Giant did at around the same stage of his life.

Because they cut back his dates, he has agreed to work through February unless things get extraordinarily bad. He will then take a hiatus and hopefully recover enough to return for WrestleMania. Big Show is in a secure financial position, but he may never be able to handle a full-time schedule again. He has not confirmed anything about WrestleMania yet, but the feeling is that he will work the show due to Hogan's involvement unless he is physically incapable."

I wouldn't blame him for retiring, and I hope that after he does he can find time to lose some weight and make life easier for himself.

Not cool.

He's not a great wrestler, but he is  entertaining sometimes, and one of the better big men in WWE in my opinion. It'll kinda suck for him to goo I suppose....

Now that I find straight up stupid....But its coming from Vince, The same man who thinks that The Marine has been a success.

I watch allot of sports shows AND I never seen anything about RVD. the only time I've seen anything with RVD on something that was not about wrestling was City Guys. So that whole thing is complete Bull plop right there.

It's the best move, really. Show's been in terrible shape for years now, and as far as his role on the show goes, he's just sort of been there for the past two years. His last greatest run was his feud with Brock Lesnar.

While I can buy Show retiring in the near future, that article does not exactly inspire much confidence in its truthfulness.

So Vince McMahon now hates RVD and doesn't think he's a main eventer?  Why the **** did he start up ECW then and who is the face of that promotion, even in the aftermath of the Ohio Screwjob?

Not to mention, has he listened to the crowd responses to RVD lately?

What the article says and what I see on TV seem on very different ends of the spectrum of truth.  There are several other areas of that seem a little suspect.

Moving on, I can seen Show calling it a career in the near future, as he has looked burnt out in his last few appearances and in need of a break.  His ECW run has really surpassed all expectations.  The dude's had a tremendous career and doesn't have anything left to prove.

But he can't retire!

Damn, first JBL...then Henry...and it looks like Show is gonna go. We will be sorely missed. Maybe an RoH place will open up for him to work Merchandise stands at events. :P

But even then, I think he'll draw X-Pac heat from that for not even doing that job properly.

Show had a good career in WWE, I dont blame him for his decision, hes doing the right thing.

Vince once again amazes me with stupidity. RVD isnt a good champ? Well guys, get ready for Hardcore Holly to be the new "face" of ECW. RVD and Sabu are the only people they should let show drop the belt to.

Big Show may have not been the best wrestler obviously, but you gotta respect him for giving everything he had, especially recently in ECW he's really been giving his all. He had a good career, and it will be sad to see him go.

Big Show is a pretty good wrestler in my opinion that is, and i can see that his size would be trouble when it comes to traveling and for wrestling as well and like was said in another post he deserve to get some rest, but if Big Show does retire i wish him luck in the years to come and would be cool to see him some more movies.

If I were a man of his size, I would be worried sick about my health. He should take a hiatus and rest up or he could end up seriously injured or killed.
