SCI FI CHANNEL EXTENDS ECW
http://www.wwe.com/shows/ecw/news/3249242

New York, N.Y., August 31, 2006 - SCI FI Channel today announced it will keep its new hit program, ECW (Extreme Championship Wrestling®), on the network through at least the end of 2007. ECW is produced by World Wrestling Entertainment®, the producer of the No. 1 weekly basic cable TV series, “Monday Night RAW®” on USA Network.

ECW debuted on SCI FI as a summer series in June on Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT, providing an alternative brand of wrestling suited to fit the Channel’s commitment to fuel the imagination. The program met with immediate success, with its premiere attracting more than 1.8 million new viewers to SCI FI; 43% of the ECW's premiere audience had not watched the SCI FI Channel during the prior 4 weeks. The debut also set a Channel record for a series premiere attracting 1.07 million viewers 18-34, the most ever in the demographic.

ECW has remained consistent throughout its summer run, averaging about 2.7 million viewers and ranking as one of SCI FI's highest rated weekly programs. It has consistently been one of the top-rated programs in primetime on Tuesday among male teens and one of the top-rated cable programs in households.

SCI FI Channel is a television network where "what if" is what's on. SCI FI fuels the imagination of viewers with original series and events, blockbuster movies and classic science fiction and fantasy programming, as well as a dynamic Web site (www.scifi.com) and magazine. Launched in 1992, and currently in 85 million homes, SCI FI Channel is a network of NBC Universal, one of the world's leading media and entertainment companies.

World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. (NYSE: WWE), is an integrated media and entertainment company headquartered in Stamford, Conn., with offices in New York City, Los Angeles, Toronto and London. Additional information on the company can be found at wwe.com and corporate.wwe.com .

This doesn't suprise me at all Sci-Fi would have been dumb to get rid of ECW with the ratings it is drawing.

Good news, we all knew it would be extended....just not for how long, I guess it's now official it's through 2007. If the show stays constant I think it should have no problem earning another extention after that....hopefully then with a 2 hour timeslot.

It's good we get to see more WWECW. They are doing consistent in their show, and I hope they improve it with an even bigger storyline that we can tune into each week.

It does not surprise me that the Sci-fi channel kept ECW I just wish it would be longer.

More CM Punk.... always a good thing.  Possibility of WWE superstars no longer showing up every week.... hopefully.  Having FULL creative control.... I doubt it.

Good news though, as it's more wrestling to watch through the week for me.  Also, I think the fact that it's only 1 hour makes it better, to me, because they have more matches, even though they may only be 5-7 minutes (excluding main event).

I'm glad Heyman doesn't have full control of WWECW. A few years back his horrible business tactics kind of drove a company bankrupt. You all have heard of it.

Good for Sci Fi, also.

I figured that ECW on Sci-Fi would receive contract extension to become full-time weekly program, however, I did not think it would be for that length of time.

Anyhow, I personally enjoy the idea of having wrestling on Tuesday...and the idea of there being more wrestling in the week. Besides, from my perspective, certainly does not hurt manner when it happens to be one of the better weekly wrestling programs of the week (though I suppose its not really saying much when take into factor sad state of the business).

I figured it would get extended shortly, and that is a good thing. Hopefully the occurrence of RAW guys on ECW end shortly. I will say that a few of them have been ok, but it would still be better to see the time better used on ECW guys in the future. Plus, I enjoy having wrestling on Tuesdays.

This is great to hear, I love it when someone goes through a table on the show. I hope it continues to be good the way it has been.

Anybody who would even dare say that Smackdown is better then ECW has something seriously wrong with them, giving how lousy Smackdown has been all year
