Darren's Wrestling Debates: Volume 5
It's WWE's version of the SuperBowl and the chance for a wrestler to cemente his name in history. Many great names have had several "WrestleMania moments" over their career, but many of the shows haven't been as solid as they were back in the day.
The first part of the question is which WrestleMania is your favorite of all time and why? Was it because of the matches, the backstory, the booking, or maybe it was because your favorite wrestler happened to win their match. Whatever the reason may be, state it in the first part.
My second part of the debate is what can the WWE do to make this year's WrestleMania not be a huge disaster that it looks like it may turn out to be. In other words, what would you do for WrestleMania 22? How would you make it better... different matches, certain superstars, etc.
I'm sure you all get the idea of how this is supposed to go by now, so with that said Let the Debate begin!
Now how would I make this years WrestleMania better? Well first I would put Marty Jannetty and HBK in a tag match against Shane and Vince McMahon, second I would put three more people from Smackdown into the Money In The Bank Ladder match, Matt Hardy, Bobby Lashley, and Paul Burchill. And third I would make a tag match between Chris Masters and Carlito vs. Kane and Big Show for the tag-team titles. That's about all for now.

Favorite Part: Stone Cold vs. Shawn Michaels with Mike Tyson turning on DX and helping Stone Cold win the title.
- Wrestlemania 16
Favorite Part: E&C vs. Dudleyz vs. Hardyz with Jeff Hardy doing the Swanton off the huge ladder.
- Wrestlemania 20
Favorite Part: Eddie and Benoit moment at the end.
Now, to make this WM better ALOT will have to change.
- Somehow take Flair out of MITB and put in Carlito
- Put 3 SD guys in the MITB, Chris Benoit & Booker T & Paul Burchill(and a spot with Burchill doing the C4 off a Ladder)
- Please for the love of god have RVD win the MITB
- If Carlito isn't in MITB put him and Masters in a tag match with Kane & Big Show, and have Carlito & Masters win the titles
- Have HHH beat Cena for the WWE Title, and make Cena go heel
- Have Marty Jannety replace Vince in the grudge match, and make it a street fight
- Let Edge beat Foley after a long match
- Make Cena vs. HHH "Hell In A Cell"
- Let Orton beat Mysterio & Angle for the title WITHOUT making Orton cheat to win
- If Taker vs. Henry *sigh* has to happen, make it a Buried Alive Match
- If HBK vs. Vince *sigh* has to happen make Bret Hart the special referee
- MNM vs. Londricks vs. Matt Hardy & CM Punk(it won't happen but hey, it was an idea before) Ladder Match for the Tag Titles
- Bring back Jamie Noble this week on SD and start a feud with Helms for the Cruiserweight Title leading up to Noble vs. Helms at WM
- Make JBL face Finlay or something so that Benoit could be in MITB.
- Have The Rock come back to face Stone Cold in a final match for both superstars(meh, it would be cool plus I wanted 10 matches on my card)

My favorite Wrestlemania has to be Wrestlemania 17. Top to bottom, just one of my favorite all around wrestling cards. A true calssic technical wrestling contest in Benoit-Angle, TLC II and my personal favorite Austin-Rock match (I mark out each and every time Austin pulls out the Million Dollar Dream). Even the potential stinkers that were Taker-Trips and McMahonamania pulled out enough stunts and gimmicks to be entertaining, while other lowpoints were kept short and sweet. And the Gimmick Battle Royal was just a fun trip down memory lane and the perfect cool down from TLC II for the Card's home stretch. Runner-ups are Wrestlemania's 6 and 3, which I also love.
As for this year's Wrestlemania, I say screw it, its too late for it to be salvaged. Instead, I'm just going to throw out a little dream scenario that popped into my head when I was thinking about this situation. That scenario is an ROH Invasion of WWE programing and throwing nearly everything planned for Mania into shambles. Screw the improbabilty, screw the logistics, screw TNA, forget all that and just let me and my imagination run wild.
We start off on Sunday Night Heat prior to the show. The Spirit Squad is setting up to do a Pre-Wrestlemania cheer to "fire up" the crowd. They are interrupted by ROH's Generation Next of Austin Aires, Matt Sydal, Jack Evans and Roderick Strong. The match starts on Heat and carries over into the Wrestlemania PPV...

It may not sell PPV buys, 95% of the WWE Audience would probably have no idea who the invading midgets are or why they should care, it may be bloody impossible, but I'd buy the DVD. I'd definately buy it over the current Wrestlemania card. I'm a nutball.
My favorite WM would be WM20 for obvious reasons, being the Benoit mark that i am. Yeah, the crowd sucked, but in retrospect, the undercard was solid enough and the main events were simply spectacular. Taker's return was a little dissapointing, but the elecrtricity and Paul Bearer were still there. All in all, the event payed off big time. And that ending..... wow..... quite possibly the best ending in WM history.
As for this year, i'm with The Dude, it's an irremediable disaster. However, i do have a couple of suggestions as to what they should do to prevent it from being a total disaster:
1) HHH/Cena - Do a double turn. Don't even think for one minute that Chicago will have mercy on Cena. If it was in Conneticuit or some other non-wrestling state, the risk factor of the fans totally crap all over the babyface would be considerably slimmer. However, this is the Second City, rich of wrestling history and hardcore fans. They will rape Cena to dust.
2) Don't give Mysterio the belt, *gulp* give Randy Orton his second chance - While i'm practically synonymous with the whole Anti-Orton crusade on these boards, there's no other way to do it. The way they've booked everything, Rey will only come out of WM looking like a pity champion. Give Rey his long deserved short-term run with the belt next year when all of this Eddie nonsense has blown over completely. Rey is the highest drawing star on Smackdown, he can defnitely make it to the top on his own merit.

I agree with you there....... Not only was it a fantastic card, but for me, being there live was a whole different level of appreciation for wrestling. Now I may not have liked the way Rock/Austin ended, but I will say that it was their best match out of the 3 they had a Mania, in fact I can tell how great a match it was because at least 3 times in that match I was certain that Rocky had Austin beat. TLC II was incredible to see live and I became an Angle mark from his match with Benoit.... actually I think I became a Benoit mark that night also, but not as big as I was Angle.

My Favorite wrestlemania has to be Wrestlemania 17. The best match on the card was the TLC 2 match. E&C vs. DB vs. HB. You cant get any better than that. Plus it had Vince vs. Shane in a streetfight!

Flair is gonna win it (listen), when all of the sudden, Joe runs out and beats the crap out of everyone, and CM Punk wins. Coach comments on Joe, and gets a Muscle Buster. Joe then is offered a contract, but turns it down. He then starts a TNA-WWE war by beating Vince into a coma.

My favorite WrestleMania would have to be XVI...
First of all, I simply loved the fact that it was all-day event... this was really great way to remind the fans the important historical history of the event and how it had simply evolved over the years... Also, I thought the interviews were great touch as well... it put new spin on events I had already seen and the really help to drive the point of wrestlemania being something that is special... and something that felt epic, in sense.
Second of all, the card is probably the best (overall) booked WrestleMania card I have ever seen...
Highlights:
-Triangle-Ladder match, aka TLC Zero was simply awesome... it felt different than other match that I seen (at the time) and for my money... it still remains to be my favorite match out of the TLC saga...
-I was/am not fan of the HCD, however... the Hardcore Battle Royal was good example of how the division could excel it being mindless and silly fun. Listen, I am certainly not saying this was 4 star match by any strech... I am simply saying it was great for what is was and certainly one of the better matches of the lackluster division.
-I thought the Benoit-Y2J-Angle match was certainly great as well... and for era that was know as the "Attitude" era... it was good to see technical showcase such as this... and do so to great effect.
-I thought the main event was awesome as well... the sure build-up was done to great effect.... and afterall... this was Mic Foley's one and only WrestleMania main event... On side note, the whole angle of having 4-way as main event for WrestleMania was really unquie and gave the match special felt to it... and led to all kinds of different scenarios that help the match worhy of being called the "main event." Listen, regardless of the fact that heel, Triple H, won the match... it did little to change my sheer enjoyment of the match.
On side note, yeah... I realize that the event had pointless/terrible match in Terri-Kitty diva match, but you know what... so did every other WM card, including everyone's favorite; WrestleMania XVII/X-7/2001... Gimmick Battle Royal, anyone? :|
As for saving this year's WrestleMania... forget! It is going to be horrible, overall, in all likely hood and at this point in the game... it's too late to be saved...
