The hardcore road to Vengeance continues
http://www.wwe.com/shows/ecw/
June 20, 2006

Tonight on Sci Fi, the world will get to see an inter-promotional tag team dream match that could only happen in ECW. WWE and ECW World Heavyweight Champion Rob Van Dam will team up with the Wrestling Machine Kurt Angle to take on the WWE’s Randy Orton and the Rated-R Superstar Edge.

The tag match, which was agreed to by Executive Assistant Jonathon Coachman on RAW, was a product of the cunning mind of ECW’s Paul Heyman. With RAW in shambles, Heyman seized the opportunity to take advantage of a young and inexperienced Coachman. “Jonathon, I realize you’re having a really rough evening. Surely you realize I’m not here alone. In your parking lot I have a bus load of my ECW rebels, ready to tear Monday Night RAW apart if I give the word. We could have a full scale invasion of RAW. I want to negotiate... Tomorrow night on Sci Fi, I’m envisioning an inter-promotional dream tag team match. Edge, with Lita, will team up with the Legend Killer Randy Orton, and on the other side, I see ECW’s Olympic Champion Kurt Angle, teaming up with ECW World Heavyweight Champion, Rob Van Dam.” Fearing the ramifications of upsetting Heyman, Coachman relented. The master manipulator known as Paul Heyman had done it again.

ECW.com caught up with an anxious RVD just moments after RAW to get his thoughts on tonight’s pending dream match. “Obviously since this is my first match on ECW TV, I’m looking forward to it. It’s going to give me a chance to feel edge out, and vice versa. Of course, I expect to come out on top with the ECW fans supporting RVD all the way.”

Later on RAW, ECW’s hardcore legend Sabu delivered a brutal, ruthless attack on WWE’s John Cena. The death-defying maniac rushed to the ring after Cena’s match against Balls Mahoney, and once again introduced the former WWE Champion to the world of hardcore. A chair shot and a Triple Jump Legdrop through the announce table later, Cena lay bloodied and unconscious on the arena floor. Tonight on Sci Fi, the ECW locker room will be on high alert. A week after delivering on his promise to crash ECW’s premiere, you have to wonder if an angry, revenge-seeking “Doctor of Thuganomics” will pursue a repeat performance.

Last week, ECW on Sci Fi was Tuesday’s No. 1 rated cable television program. What will happen tonight when Rob Van Dam shares a ring with his Vengeance challenger, Edge, five days before they do battle for RVD’s WWE Championship? What will happen when the Wrestling Machine gets his chance to soften up the cocky Legend Killer just days before their monumental pay-per-view rematch?  Will John Cena show up on Sci Fi seeking revenge for Sabu’s brutal attack? The only thing that’s certain is that when the new breed is unleashed, the unpredictable can and will happen.

See for yourself at 10/9 CT, live and only on Sci Fi.

Well, this show already looks like an improvement over last week.  My hope is that the tag will take up, literally, around half of the show.

This show actually doesn't look all that bad.... Much like The_Dude, I'm hoping this match takes up a good amount of time, 15 minutes at a minimum.  I already know about the next "Sci-Fi" influence character, so that should be interesting, plus I'm also predicting another Sandman beat down and possibly a Big Show squash match in there somewhere also.

Also, I went ahead and updated the first post with the full preview for the show.

I can safely say that RVD/Angle-Edge/Orton will probably be better than all of the matches from last week's debut show.... combined.

Also, imagine this is the only chance that this show has at quality wrestling, because, in all likely, the other matches will be nothing more than squashes, seeing how they are not mentioned in the preview (usual sign), and this show is obviously limited on time.

In addition, I agree with the both of you: the time in this match should be about literally half of the show...third of it, at the very least.

I see Orton and Angle taking their battle to the backstage, with RVD and Edge left in the ring, with then maybe Cena coming out to take both men down. But probaly not going to happen since he's now focused on Sabu after that cheap sneak attack.

Sabu will probably have a match in which Cena will interfere in. JR and Lawler kept saying "I wouldn't be surprised at all if Cena didn't show up at ECW tommorow will this attack his eye is busted wide open" and what not. This show does look pretty good, I find myself enjoying Edge matches a lot more lately, he's deffinatly improved. Btw does anyone else think Sandman's theme is awesome?

Rated "E" for extreme
By Louie Dee
June 20, 2006

This week could be one of the biggest of Edge’s WWE career. The big stop is Sunday night at Vengeance, where he will challenge Rob Van Dam for the WWE Championship; but before he gets to pay-per-view, he will first make a stop on the Sci Fi Channel. Tonight, Edge & Randy Orton will team up to face Olympic Gold Medalist Kurt Angle and WWE Champion Rob Van Dam on ECW turf.

Last week on the premiere of ECW on Sci Fi, Edge sent a message to Van Dam by spearing him in the middle of the ring. “I respect RVD, always have and always will,” the Rated-R Superstar told WWE.com in an exclusive interview. “But just because I respect him doesn’t mean that I’m not going to take a cheap shot if I can get it. In fact, it means I might take more cheap shots because if I respect you it means I know you’re tough.”

Last night on RAW, Paul Heyman got Jonathan Coachman to make the tag team match for tonight’s ECW on Sci Fi. Later in the night, RVD got perhaps a little advantage, attacking Edge after his match with Ric Flair and nailing the Rated-R Superstar with a Five-Star Frog Splash.

Tonight they will start on equal ground, and even though it will be a hostile environment for the RAW Superstars, Edge isn’t fazed one bit.

“The ECW environment doesn’t intimidate me at all,” the Rated-R Superstar said. “If I’ve proven anything it’s that I excel in their environment. That’s why the ECW fans don’t like me, because I do what they love better than the guys that they worship.”

Above all Edge is looking forward to facing both of his opponents tonight, but he has a different reason for each one.

“I thrive on competition, and it’s been a long time since Angle and I have been in the same ring,” he said. “It’s going to be fun. As for RVD, I can’t wait to sink my teeth into what he does in that ring; it will be a nice gauge on what I can expect on Sunday. I’m looking forward to it.” The ECW environment is quite possibly the biggest variable Edge will go up against this week; can he survive and gain back the momentum heading into Vengeance?

I love that WWE is still trying to play up the "home field advantage" in ECW.

I enjoyed that opening segment with the Witch... it was believable, and it was different, so that certainly is plus.

Also, while the Sabu match felt more like Velocity match (gee, I wonder why), at the very least, it was wrestling...

Did I miss something? There was no finish to that Show-Dreamer match... Eh, those anger me... On the bright side, if Big Show would won that match, Tommy Dreamer would have looked that much weaker, so I guess that was the advantage of having that kind of ending.

First of all, while the show is basically Velocity, with few more bells and whistles (minus the cruiserweights), it already huge improvement over last week's show...

Third of all, while I was not really fan of Macho Libre, I agree with this statement from The_Dude14:

If you were expecting authentic ECW, you were setting yourself up for disappointment...

Basically, I was expecting what we have been watching, so far: Velocity, with few more bells and whistles, minus the cruiserweights. And personally, I think it already has been huge improvement over last week's show....

Test in ECW? Eh, I do not really see reason why should care one way or other...

Also, Is it me, or did Lita change her hairstyle?

In addition, RVD/Angle-Edge/Orton is already looking to be very solid main event...

Honestly, I wasn't expecting it to pass the success of ONS, which was a huge success.  I mean, it's a decent show right now, better than last week's.  Thing is, like everyone else, I was expecting at least a good match with some length to it.  If the main event does at least that, then I'm good.

Well, the show was definately an improvement over last week's thing.  The show wasn't perfect, but I was consistently entertained, for the most part.  The only segment that I had any issues with was Kelley, but at least that appears to be going somewhere, too.  I enjoyed Sabu-Mamaluke as the slightly competitive squash that it was and Sabu's stuff made it interesting.

The main event Tag was rock solid.  Props go out to all the guys for doing their best to improv when Orton got hurt and big props to Orton for continuing and maintaining a strong performance.  Strong finishing sequence, even if it furthers my belief that Van Dam isn't winning at Vengeance.  Nice main event to cap off a strong show.

Well obviously he's not going to win at vengeance but it won't be a clean finish.  ECW will get mad and re-activate the original ECW title.

Yeah I feel the same way as The_Dude rock solid main event. It kinda sucks that RVD isn't going to win at Vengance and that means he's only had a 2 week title reign :( and the Kelly segmants are getting really annoying. As gorgeous as she is and I don't mind that shes taking her clothes off it's just a waste of the very little time we have for ECW they should either make it 2 hours or take that crap out. I know ECW is only going to improve the more shows they have and the more comfortable they get, it's only a matter of time...I hope. LONG LIVE SANDMAN'S ENTRANCE THEME!!!!!!

Well obviously he's not going to win at vengeance but it won't be a clean finish.  ECW will get mad and re-activate the original ECW title.

The ECW title is already re-acitived, in sense...you did not notice how he was wearing both WWE and ECW titles around his waist during his promo?

i can see Edge winning the title after doing some illegal tactics with the ref knocked out, and Coach coming out to do a quick count as payback

Yeah I feel the same way as The_Dude rock solid main event. It kinda sucks that RVD isn't going to win at Vengance and that means he's only had a 2 week title reignStargazmo69

At the very least, if does indeed happen (I think it it obvious that Edge will, in all likely hood), RVD's title run will be 13 days more than Kane had, when he was the WWF champion.

He's holding two belts not two titles why is it so hard for people to understand that, every reference to either championship was singular and not plural.  The official title history hasn't updated.  The title was renamed.
