On ECW's final night, Christian will defend his ECW Championship against Ezekiel Jackson in an Extreme Rules Match. Will Captain Charisma close out ECW as its champion, or will Big Zeke finally claim the coveted title?

FirstDefense-1.jpg picture by ForPhotoStuff

Unified Tag Team Champions Big Show & The Miz will have their first title defense on the last episode of ECW. Can the team of Yoshi Tatsu & Goldust do the Land of Extreme proud and sieze the titles from their opponents?

I guess you missed RAW. Big Show and Miz were clashing over if they should called it MizShow but Big Show said, "we're going with ShowMiz," as in Show Biz.

I'll be tuning in to the final episode of ECW.

It would be pretty sweet if in Christian-Zeke, Zeke dominates the whole time, but then Terry Funk, Sabu, and Tommy Dreamer come down, kick his ass, and Christian gets the win.

Honestly, what's wrong with Zeke? He's got some powerhouse moves. His mic skills aren't that bad either.

What other powerhouse wrestler doesn't have those? He comes off as just another Mark Henry, expect less useless than Henry.

Point taken.

But still, he's better than other monster main eventers. *cough* Mike Knox back in his debut *cough*

JimRoss.jpg picture by ForPhotoStuff

Jim Ross has a new blog up; here are the highlights…

On ECW's End: Tonight is the last night that ECW will air on TV which signals the end of a unique and memorable era within the business. The underfunded, attitudinal, and overachieving original ECW was fun to watch on TV although I have to reluctantly admit that I never attended a live, ECW event in South Philly. I think that re-branding the Tuesday night time slot on Sy Fy is timely as the letters "ECW" always conjured up a different image than I saw on my TV screen. Mid South  wrestling was "extreme" before ECW took the term to a different level and I know how I would feel if someone would attempt to replicate Mid South or even UWF for that matter. The original versions of both ECW and Mid South Wrestling were relevant in a different era, with a distinctively different talent roster, and a different mindset as it relates to the genre. The days of blood and guts in wrestling are largely over due to health issues and political correctness which is simply what it is and not a hill that I choose to die upon.

On Paul Heyman's Contributions: I have always saluted Paul Heyman's creation and his ability to motivate his team to an "us versus the world" mentality that worked and kept the ship afloat even when financial woes plagued ECW. Many viable stars were created in ECW and Heyman had the gift that many decision makers before him possessed in the territory days and that was throughly understanding his wrestlers and hiding their weaknesses to the TV viewer while exploiting those individual's strengths.

On ECW's Contributions: ECW made unique and significant contributions to the pro wrestling world and their alumni should feel a source of pride for their accumulative accomplishments. I will enjoy watching old episodes of the "Original" for years to come when the opportunity presents itself. No one can tell the ECW story in today's marketplace better than their one and only voice, Joey S_tyles.

Christian will survive. This gives Zeke something to brag about for the rest of his career if they feel like giving him a push. Not saying I agree but that's the way they look at it.

- Ezekiel Jackson is not only the final ECW champion, but is technically the shortest reigning ECW champion ever. At Guilty as Charged 2001, The Sandman won the Title, and held it for 6 minutes, 32 seconds, before losing it to Rhino. From the three count to the credits rolling and fading to black, Jackson's reign was 2 minutes, 59 seconds.

- The reason Ezekiel Jackson won the title is because Vince McMahon wanted Jackson to have momentum as he will be heading to the Smackdown brand. There was a thought of Christian retaining, to give the crowd a happy ending, but that was shot down.

- Some wanted to honor the old ECW on the show, including some old names coming back for cameo appearances, but the thought was that it was more important to get WWE NXT over, while closing out ECW as quickly as possible.

You just proved my point. Christian is already over with the crowd, Zeke isnt. If Zeke lost this match you might as well fire him because he would be beyond worthless. He needed this to have any chance at getting and staying over. Christian would have been fine win or lose, it does nothing for him.

No, I did not. Zeke is lost cause. You do not push lost causes. That is parody booking, and parody booking does not work. He is just another big untalented hos, that will be forgotten a few years down the road, same as all the other big untalented hoses that have came and gone before him.

Otherwise, if they wanted to give someone a rub, why not give love to someone who might actually be worth a damn one day, such as Zack Ryder?

Not necessarily. Just wanted to make sure nothing else was "taken out of context."

With that being said, what are you talking about? There were people praising John Cena since his WWE debut match with Kurt Angle. Zeke, on the other hand, has been with the company for 2 years, and I cannot ever remember anyone ever saying anything positive about the man, beyond the man's physique, which is a dime a dozen, in this business.

Guys, if WWE wanted to give Zeke ANY kind of momentum or push, he would have won the title before this. Him winning signifies Christian going on to other things. Zeke gets nothing.

Link is right. Zeke gets no momentum from this since no one cares. This is near Koslov level of fail.

Also with John Cena, he was very popular when he first arrived. He may have been a heel, but the fans loved him. So whatever you think you remember is wrong.

it doesn't matter if Big Zeke can get cheers after a win like that, he may or may not deserve the title, you have a opinion, and i like what Christian says about ECW (the WWE Version and the Original), because he knows for the fact that ECW should be remember for being "HARDCORE"!, AND that's why it ends its run with a Extreme Rules Match, kudos for Christian, i hope Tommy Dreamer has watch it. I agree with Link here, Zeke is a taller Mark Henry, the only difference is that WWE has actually tried with Henry for nearly 15 years now and nothing has come from it.

Look at everyone from Giant Gonzales to Gene Snitsky, out of all the big men that WWE has pushed, maybe 5 have done anything with it. And Zeke Jackson is no Undertaker or Kane or Big Show, not by a long shot.

LEGOslayer

I would not go that far with it. Mark Henry was a ratings draw as ECW champion.

Granted, this was after 10 million dollars, and years of failed pushes.

Speaking of which, Zeke does not have the benefit of the WWE trying to justify a ridiculously over price contract, they are stuck into for 10 years.

Joey Styles has posted a new WWE Universe Blog on the end of ECW, here are the highlights...

On ECW Returning: "I feel both ECW and my announcing career should have been retired after the ECW One Night Stand pay-per-view in 2005. WWE was c_lassy enough to give everyone who was every involved with the Original ECW, all of us who worked for the promotion and the rabid fans who made ECW, the closure we all emotionally craved. When I heard the success of the ECW One Night Stand 2005 was going to be the catalyst for the re-birth of a WWE owned ECW (or WWECW as we ECW Originals and Original ECW fans called it), I felt strongly that it wasn't going to resonate with WWE or ECW fans. The Original ECW was a gritty and underground pro wrestling alternative to WWE's perfectly produced global entertainment product."

On The WWE's ECW Failing: "As I feared would happen, ECW becoming WWE's third brand didn't resonate with either Original ECW fans or WWE fans. The resulting hybrid was a huge fiscal success but struggled creatively for years. Thanks to the third (and current) ECW writing team of Ed Koskey and Jen Bloodsworth, ECW finally discovered and solidified its identity as the launching pad to Raw and SmackDown for young talent like CM Punk, Sheamus, Evan Bourne, Kofi Kingston, Jack Swagger and many others. Still, the star-making show being named ECW was still more a hindrance than a help because it always drew comparisons to the Fight Club-like, Original ECW."

On The Best Part Of The WWE's ECW: "In my opinion, the greatest thing that came from WWE's ECW was ECW Originals Tommy Dreamer, The Sandman and Sabu finally wrestling for a global TV audience and earning the career validation they deserved when they joined Rob Van Dam at WrestleMania 23 at Ford Field in Detroit. The three greatest moments of my announcing career were the Original ECW's Barely Legal pay-per-view, WWE's ECW One Night Stand 2005 pay-per-view and Taz and I calling The ECW Originals defeating the New Breed at WrestleMania 23 in front of 80,000 fans chanting "ECW!" The credit for that match belongs to both Paul Heyman and Vince McMahon."

A Thank You To Paul Heyman And WWE: I'll always be thankful to Paul Heyman for creating the Original ECW and giving me the opportunity to begin a career in pro wrestling that lasts to this day and may last for years to come. I'll always be thankful to WWE for resurrecting the Original ECW perfectly at ECW One Night Stand 2005 and inviting me to call the show.
