Details are not for certain right now, but John Cena looks to have suffered a possible torn right pectoral muscle during his match against Ken Kennedy. Cena is scheduled to undergo a MRI tomorrow to examine the severity of the injury. If he has a torn pectoral, he could be gone for several months to recover. The injury appeared to happen during a hip toss on Kennedy that ended oddly with Kennedy landing on top of Cena. Cena then nailed an arm drag and the two ended up in the corner. Cena backed up to the opposite corner and was obviously favoring his arm immediately. Cena did go through with the after match angle with Randy Orton while in severe pain.

No, he was already suspended for the same instance that the other people were.

He wont lose the title, the WWE will just have him have quicker smash matches where he barely has to do anything.

Being the semi-Cena fan that I am, this is bad news. From WWE's business standpoint and even Cena's standpoint, this could turn out well with fresh new things coming into the mix, so this is good news too. I doubt we will see a great match at No Mercy if this is a serious injury.

A year ago, this thread would've gone to 12 pages, all stating "This is the best news evar!".

Considering the schedule he's been working for years now and the effort he's been putting in, this was, literally, only a matter of time. It'll be interesting to see how WWE handles this. Will Cena work through the injury, risking further screwing things up and being out longer,at No Mercy? If he does and you still don't respect him, I won't know what to say.

And once again, it looks like Orton will be the beneficiary of other people's injuries. Unless, of course,a certainHHHistory repeats itself.

I've said for a while that I thought a little time off would be good for Cena. Some time away from the ring and the belt ought to quell the negativity and rally his fanbase to where he'll come back hotter than ever. Its too bad that WWE had to wait until he was injured to give it to him. ButI do think thebright side of this, I really think Cena will come back with massive crowd support with the vast majority of the hate subsiding.

Out for 6-8 months, stripped of the WWE title, there will be a new champ at No Mercy.

This is horrible news for WWE.

Everyone hoping this will lead to change, some how, I feel that they will be disappointed. In all likely hood, the only thing I see this leading to number 11.

While I think it will potentially help matters, I still do not think it will fix things. If they want to fix things, they need to give him massive over-haul with his mic work.

The WWE is proceeding as if John Cena does indeed have a right pectoral tear. There is a ton of concern internally as Cena has been the man for the last year and many look at him as the "MVP" of the company. Cena is currently headed to Birmingham, Alabama to have his injury examined and diagnosed by Dr. James Andrews. After Dr. Andrews makes the final diagnosis, WWE will move on from there with their Sunday No Mercy PPV plans, which are now in jeopardy.

I could tell Cena was hurt, he was favoring his arm and especially when he locked Kennedy in the STFU he didn't put any of his right arm into it.

This is really bad for the WWE. Man 2007 has been a horrible year, this is the 4th time a World Title had to be surrendered due to injury or suspension(Undertaker, Edge, Morrison and now Cena). Unfortunately as The_Dude said, this was only a matter of time. I wonder how WWE plans on picking up from here now.

Morrison didnt surrender fom injury, he was suspend. Expect to see him tonight.

I hope Ortan wins it, though I some how find it unlikely. It could set up for a good non-title fude when Cena comes back and Ortan loses the title to someone else. Becuase likely they will set it up as though Cena got hurt form Ortan.

From WWE.com: BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - WWE Champion John Cena has suffered a complete tear of his right pectoral tendon and is heading into surgery, according to noted orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews. Because of the seriousness of the injury, WWE officials will not allow Cena to compete this Sunday at No Mercy, and he will have no choice but to surrender the title.

Dr. Andrews said Cena could miss between six and eight months of action. Cena was injured during his match with Mr. Kennedy Monday night on Raw. According to WWE physician Dr. Ferdinand Rios, Cena's injury was more serious than initially thought.

"He has a complete tear of his pectoralus major muscle," Rios said. "Because he's so big, [the tendon tear] is behind the muscle. It was hard to diagnose."

Rios said Cena will be hospitalized for a few days to learn the rehabilitation procedure he must undergo. His arm will be immobilized for a week and then therapists may allow him to start moving it so that the arm doesn't become stiff.

Rios said that Cena is so dedicated to WWE that he wouldn't be surprised to see him return sooner than later.

"I suspect that John might be able to come back sooner [than most people with this injury], as he'll train vigorously," Rios said.

Before visiting Dr. Andrews, Cena had said last night, "No matter how serious the injury, one way or another I'll be ready to compete on Sunday."

But despite Cena's vow, WWE officials will not allow him to compete at No Mercy. Therefore, he must surrender the WWE Championship.

WWE officials vow that there will be a WWE Championship Match this Sunday at No Mercy and a new WWE Champion will be crowned.

Stay with WWE.com for further updates on Cena's condition and on No Mercy as they become available.

Man, Im as sick as Cena as anyone else, but I didnt want this to happen. All this build in Cena/Orton is pretty much wasted. They have had going the best main event feud all year, it sucks it has to end this way. Same injury as their WHC Edge too. As others stated, Cena needs the time off, so it should at least help his character.

And please WWE, dont give HHH the title.

While I am all for bringing conclusion to things, in all honesty, this feud has been going noticeable down-hill post SummerSlam. If you are asking me, the real shame hear is that this is anti-climatic way to bring end to John Cena's run as champion. I mean, granted, its completely and utterly understadable situation, and I was not excepting him to end his runprestigious fashion, however, nonetheless, it pails in comparison to the previous 2 times he dropped the title.

And please WWE, dont give HHH the title.

SeriousThreat

As much as I hate to admit it, who else is there?

Bobby Lashley - injured

Carlito - damaged goods and never has been ready for the main event regardless

Randy Orton - damaged goods

Mr. Kennedy - not ready for the main event

King Booker - not available

Shawn Michaels - not available

Chris Jericho - not available

Sadly, Triple H, in all honesty, is really the only legit option there is. Nothing against John Cena or anything, this is whathappens when you book your entire roster around single guy. Goes without saying, however, I blame the creative staff.

You know that, I, perhaps more than anyone hate saying this, but who else is there? Orton's a liability, Kennedy's tainted right now andjust not ready, Umaga is tainted, doesn't speak English and doesn't seem like a good fit. Jeff Hardy is still Jeff Hardy and he's your #2 face right now.

There are only two non-Triple H options that I think could work. If Edge is ready to go, I think that's your best bet, IMO. The only other guy would be Taker.

Please, for the love of all things, please, keep this vacant title away from Khali!

They have a poll on WWE.com who should be WWE champ. No one really appealed to me, so I voted for Brian Kendrick. They have the whole roster.

One think I noticed was they have King Booker, I thought he quit.

Apperently, Booker is back with the E, but serving a 60-day suspension. So he's not eligible for the title.

And I didnt vote for anyone on that poll, i'd have Edge win it at No Mercy. It would add to his opportunist gimmick.

I like the idea some people on the wrestlecrap forums put forward. A one-night tournament for the title.

Here's what I was thinking:

Survivor Series is what, a month or a month and a half away. Keep the belt vacant until then. At Survivor Series, they could have a classic four-on-four matchup. The winners will face off. These will be singles matches, though. So, let's say Triple H, CM Punk, Great Khali, and Jimmy Jacobs are on the winning team. They could pick numbers, 1-4. Whoever gets #1 faces #2, and #3 will face #4. The winners of those two matches will face off in the main event for the title. So, during the time leading up to Survivor Series, they could have qualifying matches on Raw.

While I wish no one an injury, but it's about time we WRESTLING fans, are guarantee a new WWE Champion for the next 6-8 months. I wish Cena well, and hopefully he'll come back better than ever and gain more respect from the fans. It sucks that the botch cause his injury.

As for the WWE Title situation, I pray to goodness that they don't do a stupid battle royal everytime someone is out to crown a new champion. They've done it with Batista when he lost his World Title, and the same happen to when Edge had to forfeit his title. So at No Mercy, there should be some other way to decide who should be the new WWE Champion.

If not at No Mercy, do a King of the Ring tournament to crown the new WWE Champion. Or just keep the damn title vacant or something. NO MORE BATTLE ROYAL TO DETERMINE NEW CHAMPION!

Normally I'd say they won't give him the title because he's still fueding with Batista for the World Heavy Weight title (or at least I think he is). But unfortunately, thanks to the creative teams obsession with big men, I would be suprised if we see either Khali jumping over to Raw and winning the titie, or Khali winning the title of Batista AND jumping over and winning the title.

WWE is also reporting that Cena's pectoral tear was proven to be more severe than even previously diagnosed, causing the company to now tout that Cena could be out of action from anywhere from six months to a full year.

Wrestling couldn't get that lucky to be a year without Cena!

WWE.com has put up a video feature about John Cena's surgery and rehabilitation process. In the video, Dr. James Andrews says the injury happened in the match with Mr. Kennedy on RAW when Cena's arm was pulled behind him during a hiptoss. Dr. Andrews called the injury "devastating" and said he was surprised Cena was able to finish the match.

Dr. Andrews said that once they opened Cena up, they saw that it was a complete pectoral tear and used fiber-wire kevlar sutures to replair the tear. He said Cena will have a full recovery.

Check out the video here.

Check out photos from Cena's surgery here.

Full year of nothing but Cena > Full year of nothing but Triple H.

For real. Raw will be a pain to watch.

I'd prefer HHH as the champ, then might go back to being heel where he loses more often compared to face.

As many problems I have with John Cena's mic work, I easily prefer to hear his cheesy and over-the-top tone any day of the week over Triple H talking about how "he is that damn good" for 122nd or 123rd time in his career. I am not sure which --- I have done lost count.
