I'm nots ure, but I think it may be because a lot of the King of the Ring winners didn't live up to expectations (namely Billy Gun). But the last time there was a KOTR, they had the winner get a world title shot, which I thought really made the whole tourney much more important, so I don't really understand why they cancelled it. Perhaps bad PPV buyrate?BiggestgeekeverIt was replaced by the Great American Bash, so I don't think a low buy rate is the issue anymore.
I don't know why exactly they scrapped the concept other than maybe the WWE only wanted the Big 4 to be Interpromotional PPVs and make sure Interpromotional matches have that special feel... Or because Brock Lesnar squashed it.
I could and would like to see it make a return, seeing as how the GAB has yet to not suck. Its a great concept, when done properly. Especially now that its had a couple of years on the shelf.
Plus, given their current sate of affairs, I don't think the last KOTR to be Brock Lesnar.
