I'm going to follow up on Link's post, and pose this question:

  • Who in the WWE, from the past, should've deserve to be WWE Champion?
  • Would you like them to be a champion as a heel or a face?
  • Do you think they would've gone over with the crowds back when they had a huge amount of heel or as a face?
I made this post to see what you guys think. There are a number of guys, back in the good old days of the WWE, who deserve to be champion.

So you know, I actually "borrowed" the idea, by scrolling through 411's forums.

First guy that comes to mind is Razor Ramon. I'm still somewhat astonished that with all the supposed "pull" of the kliq, not to mention how over Razor consistently was as a face that WWE never even really came close to pulling the trigger on Razor. Now it doesn't take much of a stretch of the imagination to come up with a few behind the curtain reasons WWE might have been hesitant, but on screen, Razor was among the most consistently over and consistently solid performers WWE had. Its just completely astonishing that whike Diesel was stinking his way through main evnt after main event, Bret, HBK and Razor were floundering around the midcard.

JYD. Much like MDM and Piper, if he would be any other company, any other time, I honestly believe this guy would have been champion. Plain and simple, this guy was just mad over.

On the WWE front

  • Curt Henning/Mr. Perfect - Should of been champ back in the mid 90's when they only had HBK and Bret. Not sure if he was injured or what but it seemed WWF was lacking of main event heels at the time and I think Henning would have been...pardon the pun...perfect. Just imagine the possibility, they could have had triple treat matches with Hart, HBK and Henning for the title or just have Bret and HBK fight over who gets a shot at Henning. Seems like a missed opportunity to me.
  • Vader - Always seemed like a great monster heel to me and of course he was utilized poorly in his WWF run. Kind of like what I said about Henning above, he could have been a great heel champ for the mid 90's WWF scene by feuding with Taker, HBK, or Bret. Instead my only memories of him consist of him killing off Gorilla Monsoon, Kane killing Vader off, and Vader making a one night comback in '04 only to fall off of the ring apron. Sorry Vader.
  • Ricky Steamboat - Him and Savage would have torn the house down even more if they weren't beeing held down by Hulkamania. I guess at least he was given his due by the NWA.
  • Ted Dibiase - Don't really know if Andre giving him the belt really constitutes as an official title win, but nonetheless, I think he could have been a great heel champ for Hogan to feud with at that time. At least the belt went to Savage and not Hogan after he was given the belt at that time.
  • Paul Orndorf - Seems like he was one of the biggest casulties of Hulkamania to me. Definately should have had more victories over Hogan.

Besides WWE

  • Arn Anderson - One of the all time greats, it really is a shame he'll never get main event gold. Guess thats what happens when you hang around with Flair.
  • Christopher Daniels - As much as I enjoy TNA, it's almost embarassing to the sport of wrestling that a guy of the Fallen Angel's calibur has do dress up and become a goofy gimmick character to get TV time each week. Personally, I would love to see him in someone like Joe's spot right now or maybe even AJ's spot. Not following around Eric Young and dancing to get cheap pops. Hope he returns sooner than later.
  • Jerry Lynn - Another great wrestler who will probably never be given his due. He busted his ass every match and the best title he's ever held is the X-Division title.

So, the ECW title does not count?

D'oh, I didn't realized he held it. Looks like he only held it for less than a month. He deserved a longer run than that. :)

I do not if I would exactly say Steamboat got his due in NWA. Ric Flair dropped the belt to him, only to gain it back yet again, and Steamboat never did get another run with the belt. While Ric Flair deserves respect, and yes, is legend, this guy was Steve Austin, Triple H, The Undertaker, and Jeff Jarrett, before half of these guys were even in the business.

Bobby Lashley - Alright, it wasn't years bak but i liked Lashley. A good powerhouse. It's just a shame he didn't beat Cena in GAB 07. He'd definately be a face, i could't see him as a heel.

Curt Henning andRoddy Piper - both these guys deserved a WWE championship, both of them only won the intercontiental title (and Piper won the World Tag team titles with Flair), especially with Henning's "Mr. Perfect" gimmick i'm surprised he wasn't WWE Champion in his time, both of them would be good heels as champion.

Stevie Richards: It is his own fault, though. He was a huge star as the leader of the bWo in ECW, but than he got an attitude and left for WCW. Unfortunatey, his career never recovered from that. Fast forward ten years and he almost wins WWE's ECW title (which obviously isn't a world title), but than he gets injured, and later released. Poor Stevie

Mr. Perfect should have been a champion, even though i was like three when he was in his prime, after seeing older tapes of him and everything. I really thing that they should have gave him the ball. He would have made a great heel

Mr. Perfect - He had all the tools to be an excellent heel champion. Too bad his personal demons and overall immaturity got in the way.

Ted Dibiase - Dibiase would've been the perfect heel champion in either the late eighties or early nineties. Him and Bret Hart could've had a great program together for the title.

Booker T - By the time he was given the belt, it was too late. He had become a joke. Booker T should've gotten that belt at WM 19. Quite possibly one of the most underappreciated and gifted babyfaces to come in years.

In fact, that was actually the World Heavyweight Title but he did win the WHC in 2006. So that sort of counts.

I agree with most of you guys on who should've became WWE Champion, Mr. Perfect, Razor Ramon, Rowdy Roody Piper, Ted DiBiase, etc.

I think Goldust, also could have became WWE Champion, a top heel, but wasn't given that opportunity. He did a good job playing mind games, and making us react to his touching and groping on other wrestlers. Dustin played his character so well back then. I think Owen Hart and Bulldog could also make good heel WWE Champions.

Personally, I believe Owen Hart should have made WWE champ in '98, in a program Vs HBK as a sort of "Montreal Screwjob revenge" thing. That said, I think he would have gotten over as a heel champ, a la IC title Vs Stone Cold, but instead he's forced into a program with HHH which I think was a big mistake as Owen had the talent to hold up his end of a main event with anyone in WWE. For me, he'll always be one of the greatest never to be WWE champ.

Technically, Owen Hart did "win" the WWE championship, only for it not to count, in the vain of Chris Jericho or RVD.

This one comes as much from JD Dunn of 411, as it does me, but looking back at 1993, Crush. Dunn proposed the "what if" scenario of what if WWE had given Crush Luger's push and it does surprise me that WWE didn't even really come close to pushing Crush. At that time, Crush was just about the prototype of what Vince McMahon could want in a wrestler, if not a little bit better with his ability to move, not to mention Macho was putting him over huge on commentary.

Chris Benoit got robbed so many times it wasn't funny! The WHC just didnt do it justice.

George "the Animal" Steele. If they give the belt to lame wrestlers like CM punk & Jericho, why not to give it to Steele!

Razor Ramon a.k.a Scott Hall my favorite wrestler of all time I don't understand why he wasn't a world champion.

Mr.Perfect. Great wrestler he would of made a good champ.

Ted DiBiase. Would of been a great heel champ.

Hot Rod Roddy Piper. Great wrester he would have been a great champ put the belt on him and then have Piper's Pit would have been great.

Ricky the Dragon Steamboat can put on a good match with just about anybody.

Jake the Snake Roberts. Over with the fans and should of been WWE Champ

Christian ~ As a heel champion, he would of been good as Edge if not better. He is good with the mic and he certainly does have the talent to back it up. He had very high charisma especially as a Intercontinental Champion. He is one of those guys that they miss used in the business. Probably the reason why he rejected the WWE offer to resign. I really could see him as the World Heavyweight Champion. The WWE Championship wouldn't look right on him nor anyone besides Cena.

I do not think it was about John Cena. No, I think it had lot do with his size, and in all honesty, Christian is, in that sense, is in the right place. TNA is land smaller wrestlers, and by being that, Christian being smaller is less notable, and therefore, less of issue.
