Stomping a mudhole and walking it dry
http://www.wwe.com/shows/raw/articles/2245892/replace
May 3, 2006

Next week’s Monday Night RAW should be a real “Slobberknocker.”  WWE.com has learned that Jim Ross will be back at ringside calling all the action when RAW invades the Pond in Anaheim, California. The following is a statement released from WWE headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut. “In the wake of Joey Styles decision to quit World Wrestling Entertainment, Mr. McMahon has been forced to reluctantly give Jim Ross his old job back. Mr. Ross will handle the play-by-play duties on RAW on a probationary basis.”  Mr. McMahon and his office declined further comment.

WWE.com reached Ross at his home in Oklahoma moments after the announcement was made. “I’m excited about this new beginning,” Ross said. “I’m looking forward to the opportunity to contribute on Monday night. I’m also excited about seeing old friends and fans I’ve missed over the past six months.” Ross was embarrassed, humiliated, and fired by the McMahon family live on RAW October 10, 2005 in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Despite the fact he will be on probation, Ross, a 30-year veteran of the game, says he doesn’t plan to alter his unique play-by-play style. “I will be a little nervous because I want to do well. But my entire career has been based on being true to myself and wearing my emotions on my sleeve. I will be critical when I need to be, even if that means offering an opinion or two about the boss. I won’t run scared and will call matches the way I see them.”

One person who is elated with Ross’ return is Jerry “The King” Lawler.  For 10 years these two men formed the best commentary team in sports entertainment.  WWE.com reached Lawler moments after the news broke. “Working with J.R. at Saturday Night’s Main Event, WrestleMania and Backlash I realized we hadn’t missed a beat as a team. We have a chemistry that can’t be replaced overnight. I don’t want to take anything away from Joey Styles or Coach for that matter, but the announcing on RAW will be better.” The King says J.R. will not compromise his play-by-play just because he’s on probation. “If you know J.R. he’ll go head first into an empty swimming pool if he’s passionate about what he’s saying and he’s telling the truth. J.R. can’t hide his true feelings, he’s too passionate about his job.”

WWE.com asked J.R. about the Joey Styles situation and as usual he weighed in with heartfelt comments. “Based on my experience, I don’t believe Joey handled this the right way. We all tried to help him. In fact, I tried to mentor him. I quit once out of defiance and it was the worst mistake of my life. But I can also relate to many of his complaints. I just hope he doesn’t regret his decision.”

What about his health and his recent recovery from colon surgery? Is J.R. ready to go from a health standpoint? “I’ve never felt better,” J.R. says. “I’m in the gym five days a week, I have a clean diet, and mentally I’m in a better place. I’m just so happy to have another chance to live my dream”.

Jim Ross’ dream begins again Monday night on RAW in Anaheim. And you can bet HE’LL BE WALKING A MUDHOLE AND STOMPING IT DRY!

Great news. I liked Joey, but RAW is J.R.'s house and ONLY J.R.'s house until the day he dies.

Gotta love those WWE.com "interviews."

Anyhow, while I love Jim Ross as much as the next person, I think the decision to replace Joey Styles was mistake... WWE needs to perpare for next generation of announcer, because believe it or not, JR is not becoming any younger... and with history of health problems, good diet or not, one has to wonder how much longer he will be able to continue?

Ugh, the lameness of this finish to the article nearly knocked me over.

Still, its one of two right moves WWE has made this week.  #1 was they dropped Coach.  JR should have never been removed in the first place and they sure as hell shouldn't have treated him the way they did on the way out.

i like JR, and i really like jerry "the king" lawyer, but i dont what they have been doing with them the past couple weeks...

at wm, jr was basically vince mcmahon in disguise...he was saying everything the wwe would want him too. sucking up to cena, making trips seem like a criminal(along with randy orton), and same goes with every face, and every heel.

everything i just said about jr, goes with jerry too. i know hes just trying to keep his job..but he sucks up to the faces WAY more than he used to, it just gets annoying...:?

i hope since jr IS coming back, once he gets real used to things again, he will be the same as he used to be...

Welcome back to J.R.  We have missed you ever since you took your leave and it'll be nice to have him back full-time.

As for Joey Styles, way to set up for the ECW storyline with the Promo of the Year. :D

This may be a bit weird but I was sitting in a chair that's about 5 years old when reading this and I shifted my weight a little bit and it collapsed under me  so the lame finish did knock me over :P.

Oh and if you recall JR needed surgery so he had to be removed.

Yeah, I remember. I was more referring to the pointless public humiliation of JR's exit and the even more pointless segments where Vince pretty much publically urinated on everything JR did, all the while making light of the fact JR was having serious surgery to alleviate the discomfort JR had been working through for Vince. You can damn well be sure if it were Steph, Shane or Trips having rectal surgery, Vince wouldn't be using it. Also, there's the fact that one of the reasons JR was meant to be permanently removed was that he was not photogenic enough for the announce team.

Well yeah, there are a couple of reasons for that. 1. A large segment of the audience is booing the face in question. 2. He just happens to be a guy you don't like, so it seems worse simply because you don't like him. Compared to the way JR called Austin, JR is downright objective when it comes to Cena.

I liked the way Styles called it. He never favored Faces or heels just their talent. J. R. liked faces better but he wasn't biased too much in their favor.

He wasn't there on Monday. Beyond that I know nothing. I just know everything ran smoother without Coach on Monday. One site says WWE plans to make him an on-air character (manager I suppose), who knows? Hopefully, he's not back as vince tool to raise JR blood pressure.

This is the greatest news EVER! Coach is most likely out and Jim Ross is back.  Styles is great, however, it is not his time.  This has got to be one of the best decisions WWE has made in a long time.  I know I'm not missing the next RAW like I missed the last one.

One more thing, GIVE ME A HELL YEAH!
