ROH presents "Best in the World"

Featuring the return of NOAH sensations,  GHC Junior Heavyweight Champion KENTA and Naomichi Marufuji

New York, NY- 'Best In The World' March 25th

Ring Of Honor
March 25, 2005, 7:30 pm belltime
Basketball City
Pier 63 @ West 23rd Street
New York, NY 10011

Dream Tag Team Main Event
GHC Junior Heavyweight Champion KENTA & Naomichi Marufuji vs. ROH World Champion Bryan Danielson & Samoa Joe

Special Attraction
Christopher Daniels vs. Alex Shelley with Prince Nana

Tag Team Challenge Match
Roderick Strong & Jack Evans vs. Jay & Mark Briscoe

Pure Title Match
Nigel McGuinness defends against Claudio Castagnoli

Generation Next vs. Rottweilers
Austin Aries vs. Ricky Reyes with Julius Smokes

SHIMMER Four Corner Survival Match
Lacey vs. Daizee Haze vs. Allison Danger vs. Mercedes Martinez

Open Challenge

Jason Blade & Kid Mikaze vs. ???

Other talent appearing: Matt Sydal; Jimmy Yang; Jimmy Rave; Adam Pearce plus more.

After the attacks on ROH by CZW on 3/11 in Philadelphia at the old ECW arena, ROH official Jim Cornette is irate and the rest of the lockerroom is fed up with their antics. Will CZW be in the house on 3/25?

Also 3/25 features the return of Noah sensations, KENTA and Naomichi Marufuji. Last time we saw these two, Marufuji pushed Bryan Danielson to the limit in on of his best title defenses yet and KENTA beat Low Ki in a match of the year contender. As good as Samoa Joe and Bryan Danielson are, don't forget that Marufuji and KENTA are considered one of the greatest tag teams in NOAH history and were tag team champions from 2003 - 2005! They were also named tag team of the year by Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Only one team will be left standing, don't miss all the action.

Also the Generation Next and Rottweilers feud heats up as Austin Aries takes on Ricky Reyes. This is a rematch from "Hell Freezes Over" where Austin Aries scored the win over Ricky Reyes.

The rest of Generation Next, in the team of Roderick Strong and Jack Evans, will be taking on The Briscoes. If the Briscoes can score a victory here, they will be guaranteed a shot at the tag team titles. Roderick Strong is itching to get a shot at The Briscoes after the attacks at recent shows.

The Nigel McGuinness and Claudio Castagnoli feud is finally coming to and end with this final match. Can Claudio finally beat Nigel for the Pure Title? Will the up and coming fan favorite finally be able to outsmart Nigel and his "tactics?"

Finally, the newest wrestling promotion SHIMMER will be showing why they are the best female wrestlers in the world with this SHIMMER Four Corner Survival Match. It is the debut of Mercedes Martinez.

If you have never heard of Naomichi Marufuji and KENTA, then I feel sorry for you. You are missing out on two amazing wrestlers and possibly the biggest names Japan has to offer.

Well if you haven't, here is a music video highlighting their tag team reign. Enjoy!

Yup, ROH loves New York.  They always seem to load the NYC cards to the max and this is no exception.  Shelley-Daniels is definately the sleeper on this card, as its been lost in the shuffle, since Shelley didn't get the the Title and this was supposed to be his first defense.  That could be a great match.

The Briscoes vs Generation Next looks like a sensational match.  I'd like to see Evans and Strong (the greatest tag team ever) get the win and knock the Briscoes a little farther down the ladder to extend the build-up to Briscoes vs GenNext for the Tag Titles to monumental proportions... and because I love the team of Strong and Evans.

The Main Event looks to be one of those off the charts Japanese guy dream matches.  It should be a great atmosphere and absolutely something else.  I see KENTA and Marijifu (god, I butchered that one), getting the win when Joe and Danielson have a miscommunication.  Joe vs Danielson for the ROH Title is going to be absolute money.  Hey, maybe Joe and Danielson could win and go against Strong and Aires, in what'd be a huge Tag Title match.

i would love to see more MaruKENTA in ROH. if they get the win, i'd love to see them get a title shot down the line.

but if Joe and Danielson get the win, i'd love to see them get a title shot too. but what is Delirious gonna think?

I love the idea of your scenario with Joe and Danielson having a mis-communication in order to set up their match.  No doubt about it that when that match happens, the building may very possibly explode because of how great it's gonna be.

Delirious won't think.... it's not something he is capable of. :P

There are usually always tickets left aren't there...?  I always thought that you could get tickets at the door also, even though you get charged a little extra.

Anyway.... I watched the video recap earlier and Adam Pearce's promo was awesome.  I really liked the segment between Joe and Danielson.  I got goosebumps when I watched that and then thought about the title match between those two.  I'm seriously considering trying to get tickets for when that match happens, no matter where the venue is.  Of course I would only go if the rest of the card is built up solidly as well.

Yeah, that was the New Yorker. Now they run shows out of Chelsea Piers, aka the deathtrap. I went to Steel Cage Warfare and barely made it out alive after the show. Think of one huge mosh pit of wrestling nerds moving at 1/8 of a mile an hour down 3 - 6 stories of stairs.

GHC Junior Heavyweight Champion KENTA & Naomichi Marufuji vs. ROH World Champion Bryan Danielson & Samoa Joe - i predict KENTA and Marufuji will get the win after some miscommunication between Danielson and Joe. this will add some fire to an eventual Danielson/Joe match.

Christopher Daniels vs. Alex Shelley with Prince Nana

i see Daniels will get the win. i think Nana and Rave will be at ringside and Rave will cost Shelley the match.

Roderick Strong & Jack Evans vs. Jay & Mark Briscoe

Briscoes will get the win and score a chance for a title shot. Evans will take the fall cuz Strong needs to look strong going into WM weekend.

Nigel McGuinness defends against Claudio Castagnoli

i think Claudio is gonna get the win. ROH hasn't been doing much with Nigel lately and Claudio is extremely over.

Austin Aries vs. Ricky Reyes with Julius Smokes

Aries will get the win unless Homicide interferes.

Lacey vs. Daizee Haze vs. Allison Danger vs. Mercedes Martinez

this actually has the potential to be the sleeper of the night. i've heard so much praise about SHIMMER and these women are gonna give it their all to show the ROH fans what SHIMMER is about.

Jason Blade & Kid Mikaze vs. ???

they will probably face the Irish Airborne. Crazy J and Lotus get the win.

a message from Gabe

March 22nd: KENTA and Naomichi Marufuji are preparing for their trip to New York City for this Saturday's event at Basketball City on the Chelsea Piers when ROH presents "Best In The World." They will be arriving before Saturday so that they will be well rested for the match. The former champions are very eager to show the United States what they can do as a tag team. The duo is a two time Wrestling Observer Tag Team Of The Year and many feel that the only reason they didn't win last year was because they teamed less frequently. They will be faced with the best that ROH has to offer in ROH World Champion Bryan Danielson & Samoa Joe. This match will mark the first time that Joe steps into the ring against KENTA in an official match. If you watched the Danielson/Joe locker room meeting in the free ROH Video Recap at ROHvideos.com you know there is a lot of pride on the line in this one.

March 22nd: This Saturday will also be a special night for ROH as it marks one year of shows in Manhattan. New York City has really become a home for ROH with each event becoming a must see home release. We will celebrate our one year anniversary in Manhattan by giving you the "Best In The World" and a main event that can truly be called a dream match. Please join us by getting tickets at ROHwrestling.com, calling 215-781-2500 and at Ticketmaster outlets.

Well it looks like Jimmy Yang is gonna have a match, but his opponent won't be determined until the show.  Also the "Top of the Class" Champion Derrick Dempsey will be defending on the pre-show.

March 24th: Hey Chris Hero and Necro Butcher, there is still an open challenge for you to show up tomorrow night and fight. Adam Pearce has a message for you on ROHvideos.com in the latest ROH Video Recap. We are giving you a free pass to walk into Basketball City. Do you have the guts?

March 24th: Jimmy Yang will be in action tomorrow night in Manhattan. His opponent will be determined at the show. It will be a special night for Yang as his idol and friend Bruce Leroy from Barry Gordy's Last Dragon will be in attendance.

March 24th: The dream match main event of KENTA & Marufuji vs. ROH World Champion Bryan Danielson & Samoa Joe isn't guaranteed to be the best tag match on the show. Many are looking forward to the grudge match pitting Jay & Mark Briscoe vs. Roderick Strong & Jack Evans. This match features two of the most exciting and innovative teams going today. There will be a clear winner in this one and there won't be a rematch for at least several months as Evans leaves the United States to live in the Dragon Gate dojo. This will be Evans' last east coast appearance and you better believe he is coming to steal the show.

1.) They'll probably show up and interfere in some match, instead of actually participating in the challenge.

2.) Those two matches are gonna be awesome.  I'm really sad to see that Evans is going to Dragon Gate for a while, but I can understand the move because he hasn't done much in Gen Next, or ROH for that matter, as of late.  I can't wait to see what new moves he has when he comes back.  It's kinda fitting that his in his last match before leaving he's teaming with Roderick Strong... those two work so well together and I can already sense some, "Holy sh*t!" moments happening.

So word got back to me last night that Chris Hero was saying that he won't show up at ROH because he knows the entire locker room will jump him after what happened at the CZW show last week.

Well I'll make you this deal Chris Hero. You and whoever you bring (hopefully Necro Butcher) have a free pass tonight. You come to our show tonight in Manhattan, you challenge whoever you want and you can fight them. The locker room will stay in the locker room. It will be an even fight. We don't need a numbers advantage to beat up you and whatever flunkies you bring.

Consider this post to be one free pass for Chris Hero and friends.

Now if you run-in during a match, well that is another matter.

Hopefully we'll see you tonight Chris. Take advantage of your free pass.

2. Jimmy Yang d. Jimmy Rave - After the match, LeRoy came in and kicked Nana, and went to kick Rave, but Rave bailed out of the ring.

 3. Allison Danger d. Lacey, Mercedes Martinez & Daizee Haze in a Four Corner Survival Match - Martinez dominated the match, but Danger blind tagged herself in and got the pin on Lacey. Dog said that the crowd was on their feet for Martinez, and really loved the match!

Blade and Mikaze come out for their open challenge. The challenge is answered by CHRIS HERO AND NECRO BUTCHER!

 4. Chris Hero & Necro Butcher d. Jason Blade & Kid Mikaze - Said to be a very quick match.

After the match Hero and Necro call out Adam Pearce. Pearce and Necro start to have a match, while Hero has ducked under the ring. Hero eventually comes back out from under the ring and he and Necro proceed to beat the hell out of Pearce. Hero then calls his "best friend from CZW, Claudio Castagnoli" down to help them out! Claudio comes down and looks confused for a bit...and then starts hitting Necro Butcher with European Uppercuts! Claudio and Pearce run off Hero and Butcher, afterwhich Claudio says "F**K CZW!"

5. Christopher Daniels d. Alex Shelley with the Angels Wings - Lots of stalling by Shelley to start off. Lots of armdrags being traded back and forth. Said to be a "solid, but not spectacular match".

6. Nigel McGuinness d. Claudio Castagnoli to retain the ROH Pure Title after a "vicious" lariat" -Dog said that they each only used about 1 rope break. People around him liked the match, but he didn't like it all that much.

Awesome.... Hero gets owned again at the ROH show. Claudio has made the right decision and I have a feeling that it will pay off for him in the long run. I agree with Claudio also.

HEEEEYYYY!!!

Well, pretty cool that Claudio's chose ROH. Another twist in the feud and it'll be interesting to see where it goes from here (that has got to like the 974th time I've said something about this feud "will be interesting," I need a damn thesaurus).

These results seem difficult to trust as far as match quality goes, considering the impressions on Shelley-Daniels and Nigel-Claudio. I wonder where Nigel goes from here, as this was Claudio's, who many had pegged as the guy to take the belt off Nigel, "last shot."

7. Austin Aries d. Ricky Reyes by DQ - Reyes had the dragon sleeper on, but Aries was in the ropes. Reyes refused to let go, so he was disqualifed. Short, but good match. Reyes beat Aries down after the match, until Strong and Evans made the save. The Briscoes then came down and attacked Gen Next, beginning the Gen Next vs. Briscoes match!

Strong/Evans vs. Briscoes is gonna own so hard

hopefully when Doug Williams finally returns to ROH, he'll take the belt from Nigel

The problem with Doug is the same as it was the first time he won the title and that is that he's not here for the long haul, unless TNA is bringing him in for good, which opens a new bag of issues.  I definately think Doug should get a shot at Nigel when he's here for the X Cup, but I'd like Nigel to retain it, so the guy that does dethrone Nigel gets a major boost off of it.  Also, I'd like to see Aires get more serious about beating Joe to the Triple Crown, which could make for some more great matches, if he and Strong ever lose the Tag Titles.

I'm rather intrigued by the finish of Reyes-Aires leading right into "the Greatest Tag Match of All-Time."  Could the Briscoes possibly join the Rottweilers as part of the Low-Ki reload?  Or is it just so they could get a jump on GenNext?

8. Roderick Strong & Jack Evans d. The Briscoe Brothers with a Phoenix Splash variation on the Ode to the Bulldogs - Dog felt it was better than he expected, and called it a really fun match. Briscoes worked over Jack's leg for a while, but after a while longer, Jack stopped selling it. The crowd was super hot, and they all got a loud ROH chant after the match.

i wonder if _Muta ended up going to this show. i'd kill to see this match and MaruKENTA vs. Danielson/Joe live.

9. KENTA & Naomichi Marufuji d. Bryan Danielson & Samoa Joe when KENTA pins Danielson after "Go To Sleep" - Really solid match between all four. KENTA and Joe had some great exchanges. After the match, KENTA gets on the mic and said "I promise, I'll be back soon". Joe then got on the mic and said that KENTA may have won tonight, but he will never beat Danielson or Joe in a singles match. KENTA then takes the mic and says he doesn't understand English, so he doesn't know what Joe said. (Haha).

Joe/KENTA for 8/25! book it, Gabe!

Ownage..... I must get this show.  And Gary if you are correct about that match then I'll be glad that you convinced me to get tickets to that show.  Of course Danielson/Kenta would work fine for me as well.

I know that all the shows between the 4th Aniversary and, I believe, the 100th Show are going to have special packaging.  Is that what he was talking about?  Or is this something else?
